Gallery Makeover ProjectHello everyoneGallery Makeover Project2 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Recently my team and I worked tirelessly on a project to help improve the gallery descriptions and thumbnail examples. While that project was indeed tedious with almost 4,000 categories in our system, it was also educational. What I learned from sorting through thousands and thousands of categories was that we have a lot of redundancy and a lot of categories that seem to have been created on a whim that are now simply homes for junk.
Over the years, the desire to appease niche communities and people who just wanted a specific area has led to some categories that go up to 4 levels deep, and it's really no wonder it's so confusing for people to figure out where to submit their artwork.
The conclusion I've come to is simplicity. While I'm not about to rip apart everything and make 6 stand alone categories, I do believe that there is a lot we can do to simplify the category tree. That includes some of the following:
1. Merging categories that ma

The primary focus of this group continues to be digital painting and digital drawing, which should be submitted to the 'Featured 5' folder. This group also accepts and has folders for animation, designs and interfaces, deviantWEAR, pixel art and pixel animation, vector and vexel artworks, comic strips, pages and panels, matte painting, mature content, mixed media, mixed media - 3D, 3D art, commission information, tutorials and resources, announcements and also wallpaper submissions.

Inspiring Digital Artworks Try browsing dA. Many of the most popular artworks ever are uploaded in Digital Art gallery. Then have a look at some of the most popular digital works in the last hours and compare them to some other popular deviations from different categories. What do you notice? - What i did a long time ago: there's a difference between them; digital artworks usually have more views, more comments, more faves. And it made me wonder "Why is that?" - Is it because many people are fans of fantasy characters and great landscapes? Is it because they enjoy looking at an enhanced figure or at a reality-defying picture?Inspiring Digital Artworks3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Of course they do, but that's not the only reason. It's mostly because people appreciate good work and stunning details, which are sometimes harder or impossible to achieve through other arts. It is also because this is the medium that imposes no limits to your power of creation - you ca

REMINDER Gallery Makeover Project JournalsGreetings Deviants!REMINDER Gallery Makeover Project Journals2 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
As I have no doubt most of you have heard from Moonbeam13's journal, a lot of the galleries here on DeviantART are having a makeover. This largely consists of merging and getting rid of categories, but please take a read of the original journal for more details.
I am sure a lot of you have seen these gallery makeover journals floating around already, but here is a definitive list of all the journals so far. Please note that not all galleries are on this list, more may be added later. Also some of these links may be updated in future, and we'll be sure to update the link here as neccessary.
Please comment on the appropriate journals for each area if you have an opinion as to how each gallery can be updated. Remember the more opinions the better so share this journal, and lets get as much of the community involved as we can!

I'm just moving and I'm very very busy ! I've found a new appartment, we've to transfer all my stuff there and all will be ok next week. Unfortunately, moving took me more time that I've thought and I'm very frustrated because I didn't work on Eros & Thanatos as I expected. Now it's really short for me to finish it for the end of december, as I've announced before. So, I plan to publish it in february, for Valentine's day !
I'll open orders for my comic « Toxic » in english version soon. It will come out with the english version of my artbook « Djihanes ». You'll be able to order both of them if you are interrested.
Pour les amis francophones, Toxic en version deluxe intégrale est disponible à la VPC, ainsi que que quelques exemplaires de Djihanes.(une vingtaine)

Since their introduction to the deviantArt galleries, millions of stamps have been created with a great variety of messages, both silly and serious, and you can see them all over the place, from journals to profile widgets.

New Username Symbols: Extended ThoughtsTwo weeks ago, we released two new products – deviant and art Mentions and new username symbols. Gratefully, and as we'd hoped, many deviants are embracing these changes in exactly the ways we'd anticipated, and the ways we ourselves did over the past several months of testing. While some deviants embraced the changes, it's fair to say that others have felt surprise, curiosity, and maybe even shock. These feelings are totally normal, but for the large part, there's a hope present. A positive outlook. The first steps in a new era that makes the way for our goals in the future, and, at the same time, removes clutter and confusion that new deviants often experience.New Username Symbols: Extended Thoughts2 years ago in Personal More Like This

There are countless worlds, between which journeys are possibe. Some people manage to become interworld "tourists", because of various reasons, some stay in their home dimensions. And, as usual, these worlds vary - from steampunk oriented ones - to medieval times, from our usual world to cyberpunk one.

You may take any world, from your, originally created, to any fandom you like in particular. You may gederbend my characters or yours if you wish.

First of all, i am going to pause dArMC for a while or maybe cancel it completely. I thought having monthly challenges would be a good idea to try something new for the different categories, but seems like there isn't really interest in that. I know that the themes and picked categories might have not been the best choice for everyone, but if i would just go with the usual stuff, it wouldn't have been much of a challenge, right?
Winners of the last month are featured below in this journal.
Maybe i will think of something different or will do other kinds of monthly events. We will see. Meanwhile feel free to share any ideas you have regarding this. Imo having ongoing projects is always a good idea, but if you don't tell me what you like it's hard to come up with things.
And talking of ideas. In my forum (widget on the profile page) i have now added a thread where you can leave suggestions for themes for dArp features. Well, if you have any

Even though I have played a broad selection of games whose graphics are made mainly from pixel art ever since I can think it took dA to really introduce me to creating it myself. After stumbling across more and more wonderful pixel artists on here I couldn't resist and had to try it out myself as well.

PE Stereoscopy: How to View Stereoscopic 3D ImagesHow to View Stereoscopic 3D ImagesPE Stereoscopy: How to View Stereoscopic 3D Images3 years ago in Personal More Like This
There are three basic methods of viewing the stereograms we have on DeviantArt. There might be other methods which differ slightly, but these are the main ones:
Anaglyph (and other glasses methods)
Viewing stereo images with glasses is great, because because you don't need to squint your eyes or focus in strange ways to see in stereoscopic vision (stereo 3D). Furthermore, anaglyph images are fantastic, because you don't need a special TV or screen, just a pair of anaglyph glasses. These are pretty easy to get, you can find them with some old 3D films, books, or even in some stores. Chances are you might have a pair lying around the house.
Most anaglyph glasses are red on one eye, and cyan on the other, these are the most common for people to own. But there's a whole range of types of anaglyph using different colors. the whole point is to hide part of the image for each eye, so many opposite-colors can work.

Jealousy on deviantART......Is a dangerous, dangerous thing. And really, it's not worth it I think I've finally realized why I was in that art slump for so long, and only drawing portraits. Because, like every other artist on deviantART I aspired to be recognized for my art-- not for fanart, but for my art. And since headshots were so much easier to draw than full bodies and because they always seemed to get more recognition than artworks that I actually spent time on, I got into drawing them more often. Until sooner rather than later, I just lost inspiration to draw full bodies.Jealousy on deviantART...3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Then things get worse when I started comparing my work to other artists. I don't know HOW many times I've encouraged other artists to do art for themselves and never compare their art to others. But for the longest time, I was doing it without even realizing it! Always obsessing over the front page, comparing my work to other artist's-- it's especially worse when you see a younger artist getting more recognition than you; but m

"As Eitvys200 pointed out, at least 1 journal per month makes it to the top of the list and is about stealing art. Sometimes this is something small such as posting a piece to facebook, other times you see hoards of pieces on a website selling wallpapers or something similar. Regardless of how it happens, or where, it can hurt just as much to see your hard work disregarded and especially someone else profiting or taking credit.
Protecting work is a huge deal for some people, and not for others. It depends entirely on your outlook - how you view your work and indeed whether or not there needs to be some constrictions on it due to the content being a child, or family member. But how do we protect our work properly from art theft and wrongful use? The simple answer is you can't provide for every eventuality. Even if you upload your work to a website where right click -> copy is disabled,

Digital Art vs Traditional ArtFollowing the article I wrote for ArtHistoryProject Digital Art - Why it's such a popular medium I wanted to bring to you another topic for discussion. It has been a prevailing topic for a while now around the internet and amongst community members in respects to Digital Art and Traditional Art.Digital Art vs Traditional Art3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Digital Art: is a general term for a range of artistic works and practices that use digital technology as an essential part of the creative and/or presentation process.
Traditional Art: refers to fine arts that use the old methods for creating artwork, such as pens, brushes, clay and other tools. Although traditional arts has different techniques than digital arts, but in fact, the different forms of art are all related to each other by the same concept, which also involves digital arts.
