Creating a Beautiful Fractal ImageThere are so many beautiful fractal images in the art world...Creating a Beautiful Fractal Image7 months ago in Art Features More Like This
...and the ones here at Deviant Art are no exception! The images are as diverse as each person who creates it. I am a lay-person on the subject when it comes to explaining the art itself. Simply put...fractals are based on Mathematical Equations. The how and the why of this explanation still eludes me, but the beauty of the images keep my creating them. For information about the underlying mathematics check this Wikipedia link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fractals
This journal will look at the elements that go into creating a beautiful Fractal Image, rather then the complexity of the base mathematics.
I did not come to these thoughts about the "Perfe

Today, I am HeartbrokenThis past week our nation witnessed one of the most horrific violations in history. A beast that I refuse to name, planned and then killed 12 people in a theatre in Colorado. I won't go into details of how, why, or who committed this atrocity.Today, I am Heartbroken2 years ago in Personal More Like This
What I WILL address is the idea of our Constitutional "right to bear arms". The misconstrued perception of this "right", saddens and confuses me. The archaic belief that having a gun in our houses will enable us to "defend ourselves" is not only statistically improbable, it is metaphorically AND literally unsettling to those who live with us. A loaded gun in a house says,"I don't trust people", "I am afraid someone will break in and hurt us", and also "I am willing to shoot to kill another human being".
If you have a gun in your house and it is NOT loaded, the statistical probability of you being able to get to it, load it, and confront a home invader AND for the outcome of that confrontation to be positive in ANY way, is insignificantly small.
Blender Tips #2It took me a long time to upgrade to Blender 2.6x as I was really used to my good old Blender. A way to make friends with new software is to explore possibilities as much as possible; here, some of the cool stuff I found (may include old stuff I never noticed before).Blender Tips #21 year ago in Personal More Like This
Don't be afraid of scripts!
Blender includes many useful, reliable, user friendly scripts. Fearlessly, go to user preferences > add-ons and try it out; next to each script, links to online docs are provided.
Two scripts I always enable:
- Dynamic spacebar menu. This will especially please blender-sauruses as it brings back the spacebar function from Blender 2.4x and earlier: a convenient tools menu.
- Copy attributes menu. With crowded scenes, it will happen that you want to modify many objects at once. There is 'copy to selected' in Blender UI (see below). But the copy attributes menu does more - for example, it allows copying modifiers and/or constraints from the active object to all s
Offensive CommentsYes, I am an art nude model, yes, my pictures are out there for everyone to see... And everyday, I get comments, notes, that are derogatory...Offensive Comments2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Because I do this and enjoy it doesn't mean I should be treated like a lesser being... You (yes YOU!!) were born naked weren't you?? So what exactly is YOUR problem with nudity? Is it not proper? Not acceptable? Is it not what you want to see because you are afraid of it? Because Society made you afraid of it? Is Nudity Pornography? Get a grip... Nudity is an art, seeing it as mere pornography is restrictive and shows a lack of open-mindedness... As an archaeologist, I am biaised, I study bodies because they allow us to study diseases and to forward science... Bodies are natural, beautiful, what we are when we have nothing to hide... Are you uncomfortable with that? Then avoid my pictures by all means.... Otherwise, be mature and accept my pictures for what they are: a depiction of the human body in all its shades... Thank you....

I hope you all like this one If you have time please leave a comment, fav it or add me to your Watch list or even comment back with a thumbnail of your painting. I hope that y

Well I'm sorry to suck you in by that devious title! I haven't mastered anything, but I did finally put together all the useful advice given in comments from a recent journal (http://haltenny.deviantart.com/journal/42966411/) I wrote on navigating with the 3D Navi tool. The funny thing is I brought up my solution to navigating at Fractal Forums back in May and FractKali responded with a much better solution than mine, and I either didn't read it thoroughly or simply didn't understand it. So I want to make it clear that I am simply passing along advice from the comments I've received here and at Fractal Forums. I just want to organize and better explain the procedure in case any have missed some of the comments.
I almost always offer this disclaimer. I readily claim that I am far from an expert with MB3D. If beaten over the head with information enough times, it eventually

A Michael StoryAs Michael Helms has folded the pelicanh tent and set up shop as a squid, I thought I would take a moment to talk about him. I can go in several directions. I could focus on the bajillions of watchers that he had and the impact that he had on them as an artist and the sheer joy he brought to folks with his elegant, playful and erotic art. I could talk about how his masterful use of color is singular and unparalleled (although I think Perry Gallagher gives him a run for his money). I might even discuss how deeply his playful commentary on his images brought a third (fourth, fifth dimension) to the images as we had a glimpse behind the scenes and got a better feel for him as a person and his loving relationship with his models. Possibly a discussion of his journal entries - thought provoking, inspired and/or enraged.A Michael Story2 years ago in Personal More Like This

Tip for unknown artists
First, this is something I find many just don't realise... Did you know that you're way more likely to meet new friends and getting your work noticed if you interact with unknown artists, instead of only watching already popular ones? Unknown artists will appreciate any feedback you leave them a lot more (be it a critique, a fave etc.), and often will keep talking to you and return the favour, while to many popular artists, you may be just another drop in the sea.
Remember, the amounts of exposure you get doesn't just depend on the quality of your work you'll have to get some people to look in the first pla
