Snow's Tips #1 - DAZ Studio Render SettingsAdam gives very useful presets and tips regarding DAZ Studio render settings in this thread that both new users and veterans may find useful.Snow's Tips #1 - DAZ Studio Render Settings1 year ago in Other More Like This
My personal settings as of 1/7/2014. All of these values can be edited in your Render Settings panel.
My PC is an Intel i7 with 12 gig of RAM, most final renders take anywhere from 7 to 20 minutes.
Bucket Order: Horizontal (this is up to you though)
Bucket Size: 16
Max Ray Trace Depth: 1 (I don't need extremely accurate reflections)
Pixel Samples X: 12
Pixel Samples Y: 12
Shadow Samples: 24
Gamma Correction: Off
Shading Rate: 0.10 (this is important. My value is low on purpose, it's slower but better).
Pixel Filter: Sinc
Pixel Filter Width (X): 6.00
Pixel Filter Width (Y): 6.00
Motion Blur is off
Hope it helps!
[Tutorial] Getting Started With IrayIntroduction[Tutorial] Getting Started With Iray3 weeks ago in Personal More Like This
Here is the tutorial on YouTube.
Here is a .pdf version.
This is for those of you who are looking at the interface going, "Now what?" This covers how to convert existing shaders and how to set up lighting for your render. Please be gentle about the vocal quality; I've been ill, but people are asking, and I just couldn't wait! Iray is so exciting and there's so much that we can do, and, well, we lost another one of our heroes today, and maybe we can use some cheering up.
Here is a text version that, while different from what I'm saying in the video word by word, contains the same information.
To use this you need DAZ Studio 4.8 Pro Public Beta, or if it is much later than March 2015, any current version of DAZ Stud
[Tutorial] Creating Dust And Atmosphere in IrayA video version is here.[Tutorial] Creating Dust And Atmosphere in Iray1 week ago in Personal More Like This
I learned this method from jag11 on the DAZ3D forums, who is thanked for permission to use it in this tutorial!
In 3Delight there's no way to create atmosphere or godrays (the rays that are visible when light passes through dust or particles). There are products to facilitate (one of them mine), but most are either not the easiest to use or ultimately just a faking of a feature the engine lacks. Many artists use postwork instead.
DAZ Studio 4.8 Beta's new Iray engine also lacks a native mechanism for creating atmospheric volumes - but it can be easily convinced to produce them! They will come from your lights and react to objects in your scene. I did a test image of Jack Tomalin's Chapter House Iray scene (free to Plat Club members
[Tutorial] Tidying Your Genesis Morph ListThis tutorial is to help you deal with quickly reorganizing your morph directories for Genesis. It will eventually probably apply to Genesis 2 as well, but hopefully knowing this you can keep things from getting as messy as I know my Genesis Actor groups are.[Tutorial] Tidying Your Genesis Morph List1 year ago in Personal More Like This
But First: EVERYTHING NEEDS TO GO UNDER ACTOR.
This is all that's required for them to appear in the Shaping tab. I don't care about this, because I think the Shaping tab is completely unnecessary, but it may save you a few complaints if you release products or freebies. Also, if you want to offer a product to DAZ, they prefer morphs to appear under Actor as well.
I'll also take the opportunity to apologize for the products for Genesis I sell at Rendo that are poorly categorized. I didn't sell at DAZ yet, and I didn't know. I can't really update them now, either, because without uninstalling manually people would just have morphs appearing in two places. I promise to do it from now on.
Iray Surfaces And What They MeanI've updated and corrected this article based on DAZ's documentation. You should read that if you want more information. This will continue to be more of a "plain talk" breakdown.Iray Surfaces And What They Mean3 weeks ago in Personal More Like This
Let us begin with the different types of shaders from the "Base Mixing" dropdown at the top. Choosing one of these will hide or gray out some options and reveal others.
The Iray shader behaves as though it has three layers: The "base" layer, the "metallic flakes" layer on top of that, and the "top coat layer" on top of that. It is possible to turn off the top two layers and not use their settings, but the ability to use them is a property this shader has that 3Delight did not. This makes using shaders made for Iray very important when rendering to get the best look in Iray!
[Tutorial] Prepping .CR2 Gens for G2MAdzan's Hirogens (link to adult site) are a fantastic free set of genitalia, originally for Hiro 3, that are still great now. You can't use your Genesis 2 Male genitalia textures with them, but you won't need to - you just need to buy this product from Jepe, which has every natural skin tone imaginable in it and is cheap, and I do mean cheap, at the price he sells it for (certainly more so than buying a pro bundle to get the DAZ gens).[Tutorial] Prepping .CR2 Gens for G2M8 months ago in Personal More Like This
He also sells such a set for the UlfGens and one for the M4 Gens (same freebie link for UlfGens, expansions at the same store as the linked one), giving you even more options. The UlfGens also have an M4 mapped option (again, same freebie page) for use with Michael 4 UV textures.
An advantage to, say, Adzan's Varsity set is that they have a lot more bones than the G2M gens, allowing for more realis
