Art Yule Love! For those among us who follow a Wiccan or other Pagan spiritual path, this time of year means that we're getting ready to celebrate our own festive season, usually marked as Yule and/or the Winter Solstice (which is also my birthday, 21st December!).

Winter Solstice by darknatasha Winter Solstice by Jaagaa
The Mother [aspect of the Goddess] assumes her role at Beltane, when she weds the Horned God with whom she has dallied as the Maiden since Oestara. As all-mother, she then reigns with her consort the God-King over the year’s planting, growing, and harvesting. Her impregnation by him at Oestara is brought to fruition at Yule when she delivers the young Horned God who will replace his sacrificed father. After giving birth to the Horned God, the Mother enters a time of retreat an

Click here to submit some stereo art
Now all you Stereoscopic 3D fans (that's the 3D that pops in/out of the screen, not the computer animation one) can submit and browse stereo work from one cohesive category!
Confused? Here’s a quick FAQ:
What is Stereoscopy?
Stereoscopy, commonly known as '3-D' is a method of creating an image which creates an illusion of depth. This works by showing a slightly offset picture to your left eye than your right eye, making things appear further forward or back into the picture!
The new category covers any stereo viewing methods including:

Sometimes at fella we get notes from deviants about things that are beyond our control, things that we as a group simply can't intervene in or fix on your behalf. One of those issues is claims of harassment and abuse. Luckily, this is something that you can often deal with yourself with the account tools that everyone on the site has at their disposal.
The purpose of this journal is to share useful information with you about how to handle issues you have with other deviants, their behaviour and their work and to make suggestions as to how you may choose to deal with these issues. Zhang Jingna (aka `zemotion) is an internationally renowned photographer and one of deviantART's most popular deviants. She's produced fashion editorials for magazines such as Harper's Bazaar, Elle, and L'Officiel, and her amazingly beautiful photography deviations rank as some of the most viewed pieces on deviantART. We recently caught up with `zemotion and asked what advice she'd offer fellow deviants and young artists.

Training your eye is very important. To take your photography to the next level and grow as an artist, you need to know what looks good, have an open mind and build your own style.
Point at the first thing that attracts your attention (often being the brightest point in the image)
Try to mentally trace the path your eye takes around the image (it's like connecting the dots in order to discover the story, in this case)
Has the photographer used the rule of thirds? Or a different type of placing the elements in the image?
Has the photographer shot from his eye level? Or chose a different point of view?
What is the photographer trying to transmit with the image?
How has the photographer used the environment to tell the story?
How has the photographer used light?
Why does the image work?
Does the image evoke an emotional response in the viewer's eye?
From the above, which can be appli

Over the past few months, we've been diligently working on cleaning up the category tree of old and unused categories. While most of this will go unnoticed by the community, what you will notice is the change from "Miscellaneous" galleries to "Other". The reason for this change is simple. The concept of Miscellaneous leads one to believe that it's a junk drawer category for everything under the sun when the intention was to be an "Other" category for deviations that don't fit well in other sub-categories of the tree. We're also working on u

For the purpose of this article, I'll be referring to projects and contests as Events.
Define your event's identity
If you or your Group is running an event, chances are you'll want to get the word out there in a mission to create buzz and encourage more people to join in. First of all, create an identity for your event. This means considering the following points:
What is the subject and/or medium(s)?Who will be entering (new artists, Group members, professionals etc)? How will entries be submitted (links to entrants own gallery or Group submissions etc)? What is the timescale (deadlines, announcement of winners etc)?Who is judging, and how (panel of judges, poll voting etc)? What is the incentive (prizes, features etc)? What help you require (promotion, translation etc)?
Choose your prizes
These do not have to be in the form of prints, subs or other things that cost money. Journal, userpage widget, news and Group features can result in huge amount

One of the great things about dA is that it's not only a place where you can promote your own work - it's also a place where you can promote art you admire by other people. There's a whole bunch of ways that you can do this, so if you'd like to help draw attention to awesome art created by your friends or brilliant things you've found while browsing, read on and find out how you could make someone's day.

Today we've got a shiny new deviantID widget for you to try out
As it stands, the info on your page that informs visitors who you are and what you're interested in, is split into two widgets. deviantID and Devious Info.
This is a little unnecessary, so we've created a brand new deviantID widget that merges both of them into one!
Not only that, but the new widget will even help you along and make it easier for you to fill in all your info
How do I try it?
Simply edit either your deviantID or Devious Info widget and you'll get a little notice asking if you want to upgrade to the new deviantID
Accept that you want to upgrade, and *poof* you'll have the new deviantID widget with all your old data copied over
I don't like it, I want my old one back
Firstly, if there's any way you think we could improve the new widget let us know!
But if you still want your old widgets back simply click the "Clear Module Data" button

I have sort of settled on "Pussy". To me, it is endearing, has an old charm, and is just a tad naughty.
Anyone who takes even a casual stroll through my gallery will see many shots of pussies. Close ups. Detailed close ups.
WTF you might ask.
Some years ago a model came in to shoot nudes and asked me not to shoot any images where her pussy lips showed. I asked her why since we were shooting NUDES! She said she thought her pussy was ugly. My heart sank. Why would a lovely young model ever be made to feel that ANY part of her anatomy was ugly? Where did that concept originate? What kept that belief alive? Who said what to her?
I told her I thought it was beautiful and asked her if I could take a photo, as I saw it, and show it to her. Much to my

"Take Only Photographs, Leave Only Footprints." - Urban Explorers Creed
Sometimes it's easy to forget the things around us that were once iconic and useful. In everyday life that could include a multitude of household objects, bits and bobs, clothes, gadgets - all sorts. But in Photography - a specific aspect of Photography - people close doors and board up buildings sometimes with little or no notice. They erect a fence around that old asylum and ship everything out or they install security guards at the boundaries of an army camp. Those places get forgotten and one day there will be nobody left that will remember them. That's where Urban Exploration comes in.
I'm not telling you to go out and scale the wall of your nearest derelict hospital in the name of photography. It takes a certain kind of person (and agility!) to do that anyway, but there are many depths to U

What we owe ourselves
As artists, we work ourselves crazy in an attempt to arrive at the unattainable goal of perfection. We insult ourselves in a way that we would never put up with from someone else. We are our own worst critics, even during times when we go out of our way to support and encourage our friends. We pour our souls into our creations. We need to listen to the compliments along with the constructive advice. Remember that there is value in what we do and that we have every right to be celebrate when things go well. So, what do we owe ourselves..?
Recognise your talent
In this context, I'm talking about talent in terms of something you instantly feel an affinity with and have a flair for. This can be anything from painting amazing portraits to being naturally great at organising a group of people to work on a project. I have never met anyone who doesn't have a talent, but I've met people who aren't aware of their talent, even when others po

"The quickest way to make money from Photography is to sell your camera"
Noticeably in the past few weeks, more and more people seem to be speaking up and making noise at the fact that aren't making money from their photography. There's no doubt about it - Photography starts out as a hobby. You don't one day pick up a camera and decide that you are going to be a pro and get given your first paycheck. It's one of those unique hobbies where you get a gentle introduction around age 10 with your first proper camera (haha) and the rest is History. Whatever you make it really. You can't say that about most professions.
Putting yourself out there is something I've been trying to hammer home the past week, you'll have noticed my ramble if you read last weeks edition of Photography weekly. Getting paid for it is another matter. Sometimes you have to make sacrifices. Sometimes, you might not get paid for what you do.
