Merry Christmas and a Happy New YearHello fellow friends, watchers and everyone else who stumbles upon this...Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Today is the 4th Advent, in not even 6 (for some people 7) days is Christmas Eve. Because I won't be at home from Christmas until the 29th or even 30th of December I decided to put up a nice Feature of Christmas Art. Today I had my Mum, her boyfriend and his father over for dinner. We had fried trout filets, boiled potatoes and cucumber sald and a nice apple-vanilla-cinnamon junket as Dessert. I wanted to do something for them - they always support me so much and the father of my mum's boyfriend invites us for dinner so often and he just won't let me pay when we go to a restaurant. So yeah - this is the only chance I have to invite all of them for dinner...and it was so nice even though a lot of work - I guess I will do it again I think somewhere around next year - maybe in April before Easter Sunday or something like that...maybe earlier..I don't know yet ^^ I'm

Art in Contemplation of Its Own BecomingDuchamp finds a discarded urinal. He alters it (by signing a name to it not even his own, but obviously “the artist’s”) and names it “The Fountain”. The most mundane, even off-putting, of objects is transformed by Duchamp into art. He submits it for exhibition and it is rejected. You might say the judges “pissed on” his idea. But the idea was born and persisted. Duchamp insisted the object was art because he as an artist presented it as such. “Conceptual Art” was born.Art in Contemplation of Its Own Becoming3 years ago in Personal More Like This

Constructive Critique: Things to considerThis was originally posted as a journal entry, then a tutorial, under the title A (rather opinionated) guide to constructive critique. Let that act as a disclaimer: you may not like the tone that this is written in (it is, as stated, rather opinionated) and you may not agree with the things I'm saying. That's fine - I'm not the be-all and end-all of art and critique, and I don't claim to be. I'm just offering things to think about before you let loose on those comment boxes.Constructive Critique: Things to consider7 years ago in Art Features More Like This
* If you don't know what you're talking about, then don't talk about it!
Seriously. If you've never taken an artistic photograph in your life then while you are more than qualified to give your perception of a piece of photographic art, you probably shouldn't start telling the photographer how to improve their work. Because you DON'T KNOW! If you've never drawn anything in your life and have never studied drawing or le
How to Write a Proper CritiqueIts my personal opinion that deviantART has a pretty good critique system, but what good is a wonderful critique system if you dont know how to write a proper critique? Most of the critiques Ive seen around here have been pretty good, but heres a guide that I came up with just in case you need a little help. =]How to Write a Proper Critique4 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Dont forget to take this article with a grain of salt.
The DosUseful informationWhat the artist has done rightWhat the artist has done wrongHow to improve
A critique should be useful.
A critique should provide useful feedback on the piece thats being critiqued. It should include what the artist has done right, what the artist has done wrong, and most importantly, how to improve.
Tell the artist what theyve done right.
Its important to let the artist know what theyre doing right not only because its useful knowing that, but because its encouraging. You never want to have your critique sound too

The Dead Places
The Visual Delicacy of Decay
It’s easy to think of art in terms of what is instantly pleasing to the eye, artworks which
evoke a feeling of joy and hopefulness and blissful peacefulness or ecstatic exultation.
This is the consideration of art as something that helps propel us forward through life – to out future great
deeds, our career victories, or dreams of coming big events. But there is a peak to every life. At some point all
people, and all places, and even all ideas have to begin the inevitable decline that is the other balancing half of a lifetime.

1. All art that is critiqued will be treated equally, regardless of skill, media and subject matter from the artist.
2. No demeaning comments of the artwork or the artist will be allowed. This also applies from the artist to the critic. We are a community, and should respect one another.
3. If you mention something that needs work, please give a few suggestions on how to fix the problem. If you are unsure how to correct the problem, discuss this with other artists prior to posting the critique if possible.
4. Be as detailed as you can with the critique. The more information the artist receives, the more they are likely to take your advice under consideration.
5. Do not just mention the problems with a piece of work, include positive notes about what is good about it along with what needs attention. Try to give a one to one ratio if possible; if you mention one thing that needs work, mention one thing that you enjoy about the piece.

Before we get into the thick of things, we didn’t have a photo of our huge plasma screens hanging from the convention ceiling to share in our Day 1 recap, so we vowed to get that to you today! The 11 foot wide screens stream amazing works of art from Artists' Alley participants to the whole convention floor!
In Comic-Cons past, the foot traffic In Artists’ Alley got busier and busier as the week progressed, and this year is no exception. There’s something magical about speaking one-on-one with a deviant, learning their experiences, hearing how they started as an artist, and how far they’ve come. It’s an emotional connection to make with someone who was practically a stranger a few moments ago -- and then you realize you’re not really strangers when you

:iconthesmallwonder: Some thoughts from Katie (thesmallwonder)
Spring has sprung and April showers have started raining down here at HQ.
Winter rain makes me want to crawl back into bed, get a hot cup of coco, and read a book all day. But there’s something different about April showers...
Maybe it’s because it’s less cold outside, or that the days are longer, but springtime rain makes me want to play in puddles.I want to go outside and smell the fresh air, and I just feel rejuvenated. Spring is a time for me to dust off old projects and start new ones. Forget New Years, April's when I get inspired!
I want to hear from you!
Do you play in the rain?
Does spring inspire you?

The Committed Canvas:icontechgnotic:The Committed Canvas3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Tattooing has existed since the very beginnings of Neolithic human expression and has since those ancient beginnings continued to be a reliable flash indicator of personality type. There are those people who get tattoos and there those people who simply do not. Even though the social opprobrium for getting inked has greatly disappeared in recent years, and even though skin art has become almost boringly de rigueur amongst rock guitarists and other entertainers, there is still one element that separates the tattooed from the non-tattooed in terms of artistic appreciation: commitment.
Tattoos may be the first “interactive” art form. The art lover doesn’t just buy an artist’s artwork – he or she becomes one with artwork, he or she commits to becoming a living canvas for the artwork, he or she, by choosing the tattoo to be borne forever, shares authorship with the tattoo artist of the artwork. New Generation: Carter Carter - Carter was born in Goldenrod city, and was raised by his extended family, as his parents were traveling abroad, studying legendary pokemon. Carter's home was a dare care center, and was around pokemon all the time. One day, a female feraligator gave birth, leaving behind an egg. The Trainer was to preoccupied with training for the Pokemon league, and didn't take the egg, leaving it with Carter's family. Carter took care of the egg. After a few months, it hatched, and out came a small Totodile, which he named Sid. Carter and the totodile were inseparable, as they always went on adventures together. As Carter grew and matured, so did Sid, his personality evolving from cute and harmless into a bit of a pervert, with amazing skills of thievery. Despite all of Carter's efforts, Sid wouldn't evolve, perhaps out of stubbornness, or maybe because girls wouldn't hold him if he was a feraligator. When the time came for Carter to go on his adventure, Sid was tNew Generation: Carter3 years ago in Personal More Like This
