PAUL CEZANNE: The Bridge from Monet to Picasso
Untitled by FilledArles
January 19 marks the birthday of Paul Cezanne in 1839.
By the time of his death in 1906, he was recognized, especially by younger artists, as the genius who began his career under the tutelage of impressionist Camille Pissarro, and then went on to become the “architect” who reduced the subjects of his paintings to cylinders,
So about those note pages...So, you've probably noticed that I didn't put Atrocity note pages in my two previous Animated Atrocities review. Actually it seems that a surprising number of people didn't (or kept quiet about them). I'm actually pretty happy about that because I don't know, they kind of made my videos feel a little more low-budget, like I couldn't be bothered to put actual footage in the synopsis area. But let's not abandon them completely. Recently I stopped taking requests because it got way too out of hand. How about let's play fair. My Atrocity notebook template is now a "request submission." However, if you fill it out wrong I'm just going to disregard it altogether. And a lot of people have sort of filled it out improperly or judged things too harshly. So this is going to a normal guide to how to fill one out (oh and disregard the 1001. I'll make a better one for that). So about those note pages...1 year ago in Personal More Like This

Why Paint Missing Children?A little girl I knew was abducted. Why Paint Missing Children?11 months ago in Personal More Like This
I was very affected emotionally, and when I looked around my home town in the following days, I finally noticed all of the little fliers asking for help finding missing children. ( In America there are 1,500 missing child cases open every day. The fliers are often printed on the backs of coupons and are distributed as junk-mail.)
I just began saving the fliers, and after a year had a drawer full of them: Disposable mailers with tiny monochrome photos of missing children. It didn't seem right that these faces were so small and bland.
One night, out of nowhere, I was inspired to paint a full color portrait from one of the cards. As an artist, the question was this: How does a person paint a portrait of a missing child? I could not just approach it like an illustration. I could not just go about it as if it were a polite painting.
I began by putting away my brushes. They were too smooth. Too pretty. Too controllable. Instead, I began using palette knives
One Reason....... why I try not to comment about people's weight. One Reason...2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I used to attend a particular conference on an annual basis, and so I got to (casually) know the other "regulars" who also used to be there. Every year, more or less, I'd see the same group of people at the speakers' dinner, and we could catch up on the usual "what are you up to these days?" kind of stuff. One of the guys I used to see fairly often was a tall heavy-set fellow (some might call him "fat" or "obese") he'd always been tall, bearded, and big, to me. But one year, he showed up and he had lost a lot of weight. It took me a second to recognize him, and I said, "Hey, Rich! You look great! You've lost a lot of weight!" and he looked at me and deadpanned, "Yeah, pancreatic cancer will do that."
Do I need to belabor the point? I will. First off, I set myself up for a massive head-fuck, by making assumptions about what was going on in someone else's life, and - even though I was being friendly about it - I was horribly wro

I figured it out from black and white.
Seconds and hours.
Maybe they had to take some time.
I know how it goes from wrong and right.
Silence and sound.
Did they ever hold each other tight
Did they ever fight
We can make it 'til the end.
Nothing can come between
Not even the Gods above
Can separate the two of us.
I figured it out.
Saw the mistakes of up and down.
Meet in the middle.
There's always room for common ground.

TransgenderSo ... yeah ... Finally ... Im here writting this <3Transgender2 years ago in Personal More Like This
First of all, I will explain a little all this .. whole process and how many times had thought of doing this ...
Before I birth, my father always wanted a boy in the family .. (at the end we were 3 girls) I been the first to born, so...my father had insisted on treating me like a boy, football ... cars ... I think the only Barbies I had were for my grandmother, even that I never got to play with them a while. Finally I grew up with these hobbies, especially football, and my behavior wasn't very feminine, in fact, I always was called "tomboy" and I ignored them...yes, I was in my "yupi" world you know x'D... and later it wasn't only football.. basketball too. I wasn't very good at school x'D
The fact is that at age 14, I lost my "father". Since I was little I was always very close to my grandparents and i live in his house since then, my parents and I have never been so close, my grandparents are my "parents" .. and .. when I lost

Advice to young and experienced animatorsWhat I have to say really comes from the bottom of my heart, so please read all of this.Advice to young and experienced animators3 weeks ago in Personal More Like This
Actually, whether you're a young animator trying to get into a MAP or even an experienced animator/director hosting one, what I have to say applies to both parties.
I see way too many comments on MAP calls and even Casting Calls in the VA community of young animators/actors complaining about the host not thinking they're not good enough to be in their project.
And do you know what?
The host is right.
You're not good enough.
That's why you didn't get in the project. Someone better came along.
But do you know what you can do?
Prove the fucker wrong.
Earlier today I saw the film Whiplash (it was absolutely incredible, go see it) and I'm going to paraphrase a lot from it while it's still in my memory. The main premise of the film was a boy in music college being pushed to his absolute limit by his insane teacher whose methods could be deemed abu

What it means: A feeling of longing associated with displacement, but not necessarily displacement from one’s original home. An intense yearning to be somewhere you are not. Hiraeth also expresses a sort of ache or longing for something of the past, somewhat similar to the notion of "golden" or "good old days," but with more ancient connotations.
Why it needs to be a thing in English: I speak as someone from a country

There has always been this obsession with the others we share this planet with.
We communicate with them on certain basic levels and yet they inhabit a plane so different from ours: savage, instinctive, a life of sheer survival. At the same time they can do things beyond human abilities: fly through the skies, swim the oceans, apply t

The 24th century, an age where technological advancement is at its peak. The world is now able to harness the planet’s energy, which enabled a leap in clean energy technologies such as solar power, rendering the need for fossil fuel diminutive. With sea levels increasing, high-rise buildings dominate the residual lands to compensate for the booming population of over ten billion. Specialized runways wind throughout the cities to enable the usage of electromagnetic hovercars; wheeled electric automobiles are still used on normal roads. Only the surviving Megacities acquired the said advancements.

Pick Your Poison BrainstormingI've been thinking about a somewhat detailed scenario, Pick Your Poison, where every major ideology rules a great power, while every minor ideology gets some minor powers aligned to one of the great powers. I'm dividing the world into four blocs, with each bloc corresponding with a corner of the Political Compass test because it's a nice, neat way to arrange everything. The other major aspect of this scenario is that every state is a hellish dystopia based on the most unforgiving straw men their opposition has drawn up. Everyone's sacred cow gets thrown on the grill. If you don't have a sense of humor about this sort of thing, I suggest skipping it (or at least the parts about your blessed bovine). I'm thinking of a PoD sometime before the fall of the Soviet Union (China stays somewhat Maoist before going full crazy later) and a current year in 2115, so modernish states are front and center with sPick Your Poison Brainstorming2 months ago in Personal More Like This

I didn't loathe at myself wishing that I could "draw feet" when working on a piece at the spot where I have to draw feet on the picture.
I didn't go to further schooling to let someone hand me a piece of paper on their own terms and timeframe telling me if I'm "capable of art" or not.
I took things into my own hands.
A couple of common phrases to make to artists who are (of the person who believes that they're) "inexplicably too good" that annoy me are:
"Ugh, I really wish I had your talent. Why are you so good!?"
"You're so lucky. I wish I could do what you do".
"I could never pull this off the way you pull it off."
Now, I understand that there are certain levels of aptitudes and paces that different people learn by, so don't get the idea of this entry wrong. But, really, let me make an illustration here:

Brother Against Brother - House of Cards meets Game of Thrones meets Jericho meets The Walking Dead (without the zombies). An increasingly tyrannical United States government, under a power-hungry, Machiavellian president (a Frank Underwood expy) goes too far and does something intolerable (Canceling elections? Arresting opposition? I dunno). A popular movement, from the left, right and center, calls for the President's impeachment. Things escalate, and a protest in Washington turns into a bloodbath. The United States is plunged into a new civil war, with many military and police defecting to the rebels' side. And of course, while the rebels are united against the government, they have very different views on what should emerge from the rubble.
The show would be very gray vs. gray morally, with sympathetic and utter bastard PoV characters on both sides. PoV characters can be leaders, foo
