Best place on the web?I wanted to share a few facts about a company that is very dear to my heart:Best place on the web?1 year ago in Personal More Like This
It's been my favourite place on the web for about seven years now. It also has some impressive little-known stats - it's the sixth biggest social network in the world. It has 28 million users. It set the standard for the user icon, and incorporated the first 'like' button. It was also, apparently, the first social network, 12 years ago.
I love it because I find it to be a wonderfully positive environment - way less haters than pretty much any site I ever invested any time in. It's supportive of creators, whatever level they are at. It encourages diversity, and doesn't judge it's users, no matter what they are into (pretty much!), writers, artists and photographers all.
It also, many people don't know, sponsored artist's alley at SDCC, keeping it in the main hall, laying down a soft carpet to spare feet, and providing padded chairs. It sponsored Tr!ckster, and the Spectrum convention. It genuinely - and I mean

Ego vs tirednessThe other day a friend told me that he meet an artist he liked in a con in san diego, and he said to me that he was a real douchebag. I replied to him, does he was all day signing to a lot of people at the both?, did he had pain in his back?, do you catch him running like crazy to the bathroom and you wanted to tell him the story of your life? Did you interrupt him talking to a friend he havent seen in 8 years? When you were talking to him the line was big so he interrupt you to give minutes to the person you didnt see at your back? Did he was sick and taking pills at the booth? Did he receive a call that he wont get paid and got mad? Did a close family member died recently and he just wants to be alone and shows no interest in your talking about Dragon Ball?Ego vs tiredness2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Those are the questions people never make, they just say i talked to him, didnt got the reaction i was expecting, soooooo, he must be a douche.
Strange because i used to think the same w

J. Paul Getty - The Liberation of Masterpieces as Open Content
The J. Paul Getty Museum has initiated an Open Content Program to share, freely and without restriction, as many of the Getty’s digital resources as possible.
A first sharing of 4,600 high-resolution images of the Museum’s collection, including many masterworks, has just been made available and all are free to use, modify, and publish for any purpose.
In a brilliant stroke, the Getty Museum has liberated one of the top collections of art in the world not just for access but for use. The museum is literally “beaming up” the great works in its collection as living resources within the arts themselves, for study, for sheer per

She has awakened before a gate she has no memory of opening. She has no name, and
no memory of how she came to be here, at the first station of a fateful quest she
does not understand but knows she must continue.
Who is she?
Only you will bring her to life.Only you will tell her story in your words and your art.
How can I contribute to the story?

The Fairy Tale, A Lifelong ResonanceA thousand years tradition of scaring children at bedtime continues for children of all ages. News of the discovery of 500 “new” fairy tales collected over 150 years ago [link] in Germany and locked away in a forgotten archive has me thinking about the enduring importance of these narrative treasures in the lives of human societies worldwide. My worry, have fairy tales been marginalized by modernism? The Fairy Tale, A Lifelong Resonance2 years ago in DeviantART Announcements More Like This

I'm a big fan of Amanda Palmer, her music, her art, what she stands for and I've been following her ramblings on her blog for a while (which is unavailable atm) and she got together a new band called The Grand Theft Orchestra and started recording her new album of songs she's been working on over the years. They have several vids up on Youtube I recommend checking out.
So she announced the band on her blog, put up some pretty cool pictures of everyone all done up for their first gig and underneath declared 'I want baseball cards!'. As soon as I saw that I knew I had to do it so I did (cue inspiring music of your choice).
I sent the finished picture off to her website with a geeky letter trying not to sound like a gibbering idiot of a fan and then sent one to each of them on twitter and then didn't hear anything back...shit! I real

Why People Hate ArtI found this talk very interesting and absolutely agreeable as it makes some sound arguments against some of the bullshit that's going on in the art world and how to go about remedying it.Why People Hate Art3 years ago in Personal More Like This
From the video's description:
"Art is often nothing more than a footnote to a (poorly written) essay making an unsound argument that uses technical and scientific terms inappropriately and without justification in an attempt to apply a veneer of rigour over their steaming pile of banal observations and utter nonsense.
This talk is a criticism of that tendency in the art world.

Truly an inspirationFRANCIS TSAI :iconfrancis001:Truly an inspiration1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Been watching him for years, his incredible work, his sense of design. Sadly, i was surprised to see his journal longtime ago, he got a disease that started to attack his body, so he wasnt able to use his hands anymore, but that didnt stop it. He is truly a guy you should admire.
And havent heard from him in a while, he was happy trying to paint in an ipad using his feet. Then a friend showed me a recent video, i was devastated.
I see lots of complains about people that are doing art or even in my case, like my back hurts, my eyes, i cant draw, my tablet sucks, my brushes arent good, i will draw tomorrow i have a lot of time. Complains complains that really are nothing-
You have no excuse to try your best. Francis Tsai its trying his best. He is truly a great artist i just cant matching in WILL, even with a tiny flu i cant draw. He is a real berserk, against all odds he has noe xcuse to continue drawing and painting.

Dude- why not just take a photo and call it done! When I download a drawing like my latest eye study I get some of this, and it's a good question and one that needs to be thought through by every realist.Dude- why not just take a photo and call it done!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
"Hello, I'm doing some research (not very scientific, I just need some opinions) on photo-realism and I'd like to ask you a question if you don't mind: "why not simply take a photograph or use a 3D program"?
That's a great question and a realist has to answer this for him or herself, If copying without change, construction and re-invention, be it form a photograph or from life, then the creative process is not addressed, in this case I agree there is a useless element about it, it becomes a fundamental exercise at best. There is nothing wrong with these exercises if it improves your knowledge and skills as a technician. But if your aim is only to draw like "a photo", I'm afraid you will never attain what "art" has to offer. Also I think too many photo-realists rely on technical eye candy alone, with no

Just when you thought there couldn’t possibly be another “ism” on the art world horizon, what with the growing accessibility of all
art technique and technology rendering all the “schools of art” equally available and doable and therefore making impossible the dominance
or even existence of any current art “movement” … comes “suggestivism,” the “ism” best summing up what art is in our lives today, defined
more by what it is not, rather than what it is.
Alice X. Z. - Living Rainbow Taking FlightThe vibrant digital paintings of alicexz are fiery, emotional, and incredibly memorable. The colors of her creations (mostly portraits of popular TV and Film characters) are unusually vibrant, which is remarkable considering how layered they appear to be. It’s sort of like what manga characters might look like if painted by one of the Dutch Masters. And this artist exhibits just the right amount of quirkiness to leave us wanting to know more: she has a penchant for painting redheads. But, then of course, there’s a lot of red and golden fire burning through most her artworks.Alice X. Z. - Living Rainbow Taking Flight2 years ago in DeviantART Announcements More Like This
