AdoptionIt was lying there neglected, a green oval nestled in a bed of straw. Instinct was telling me to ignore it after all, it doesn't look particularly appetising, and if my inkling is right, the people who left it there would likely tear me to pieces if I did anything. That is, if they were still around. All the same, I can't take my eyes off of it, like it's going to be important.
The egg lying in front of me is about the size of a human's torso, smoothly curved and a familiar lustrous emerald green. I give it a light tap with a claw. Hard, slightly reminiscent of rock or crystal. And if my hunch is right, it's been lying here for a couple of decades, now. I remember those times, although not fondly. Unless my eyesight has greatly deteriorated, the only other time I've seen this kind of green was the scales of air dragons. I remember them well, sociable types for dragons. I still don't think they deserved what they got.
I think back to those years. It was only last century that I s
Factory DefectsAfter a year of delays and red tape, my air rifle had finally arrived. I had received a phone call in the morning from the staff at the range informing me that it had arrived. All I had to do was to clear some paperwork, and it would be mine. Of course, the rifle would have to stay in the range or armoury. I am not allowed to remove the weapon by law.Factory Defects3 years ago in Short Stories More Like This
Upon receiving the news, I had hopped onto the bus, and made my way to the range. I had waited a year for the rifle, and was eager to try the gun out.
When I reached the range, I was greeted by a stern-faced policeman.
"Sir, are you the owner of this gun?" He asked, as he took out a clipboard.
"What's the serial number?" I asked, not wanting to lay claim to someone else's weapon. I had been given the serial number beforehand by my coach.
He then rattled off the serial number, confirming that the gun was indeed mine. I signed on the form, and he stepped aside, handing me the weapon that was in its case. I then proceeded to clear the rest o
The Dracophobe- Dragon TF16 year-old Johnny was at his desk in his final period class, the bell five minutes from ringing. He was the spitting image of a popular tenth-grade teen: Cool, bored with life, stuck up. He looked to his right and saw Mary, a girl whom he had a crush on. She was absorbed in a drawing in her lap, paying absolutely no attention to the teacher. Johnny decided to take a peek, and he was horrified at what he saw: She was drawing a dragon. It was beautiful; really, the dramatic vantage point, the exquisite shading, the details picture perfect, but Johnny HATED all lizards with a vengeance, especially dragons. He was afraid of the way lizards walked, their beady little slit pupils, their disgusting, forked tongues, everything. "W-what is that?" he asked Mary. The Dracophobe- Dragon TF5 years ago in Short Stories More Like This

It was like any day in school. As usual, I had not been able to wake up, and had to rush to school. After the first lecture of the day, I heard my stomach grumble. I had been in such a rush that I had forgotten to have breakfast! So, I headed down to the canteen and bought a plate of chicken rice and was about to buy a can of coffee, only to find, to my dismay that I did not have any money left. Instead, I had to settle for a cup of fruit punch, which was about half the price.
I quickly gobbled down the food, and drank the punch. It tasted weird. My stomach would probably give me trouble over that later. Today was going to be a bad day
And indeed it was. Throughout the entire day, my insides felt as if they were sloshing about. Little did I know that they really were doing just that. I was unable to concentrate during my tutorials and was scolded several times by the teacher.
After school, I quickly made my way to the train station. I w

Alex sighed as he looked out the clear glass window into the outside world beyond his own home. A few clouds floated high in the sky and slowly moved about. A few birds flew from the trees and soared around in the air; chirping happily as they did so. Alex observed the birds as they flew about.
"I wish I could fly like that. He said to himself, continuing to stare out the window of his home.
It had been a while since Alex was able to do anything exciting. His parents were normally always busy with work, and he was an only child, so he had no younger or older siblings to play with. He had already played all of his video games various times, so that was out of the equation. There was virtually nothing to do.
Alex began to hear a quiet rumbling sound suddenly emit from somewhere. Alex stood up and went completely silent to see if he could hear the direct source of the noise. However, it couldn't be traced. He noticed that it began to slowly get louder. By now, Al

One day, there was a new kid in school. She was determined to befriend him, since nobody likes moving to a new school in the middle of senior year, and she went up to him.

Stratos' TransformationIt was snowing in Pembrokeshire for the first time in five years, chaos spread throughout the county as schools closed, sending cheering and happy kids away and free to have fun making snowmen, having snowball fights and zooming down the many hills that lay in the county of Wales on top of plastic and wooden sledges. Stewart celebrated at home with his family as the announcement came over the radio that school was closed for them, after finishing his breakfast as quick as he could, he ran outside with his family to play in the snow and begin a massive snowball fight in the garden of their house. He stared at the paper in disbelief, his cold blue eyes scanning it over, looking for where he had went wrong. He grimaced slightly, then changed his expression back to neutral, looking up at his English teacher who was sitting at a large brown desk, writing on something with a bright red pen.
The class bell rang, and students shouted with excitement, milling around him and exiting the classroom. He stayed seated, until only he and the teacher were left in the room.
He stood up and threw his bag over his shoulders, grunting slightly at the weight of text books and homework inside of it. It wasn't anything out of the ordinary though. He walked over to the teacher's desk and stopped, staring at the teacher.
The teacher slowly looked up, his expression changing to a weak, utterly fake smile.

If you wanted to get something out of the ordinary for someone (or possibly for yourself), this was the place. As usual, there were about eight booths selling various hand-made items to support African missions. Three of them were women selling beaded jewelry; another sold pottery (James had bought from her before; she was quite good), and yet another sold assorted origami. The largest booth was the official baked goods stand, which seemed to be the only table manned by men. There was also a separate baked goods stand, which was done by some random girl who didn't look like she baked often. The new addition this year was a younger girl wearing glasses, probably a freshman, who was sellin
