Rise Kujikawa walked back home along with everyone in their group.
Her boyfriend, Seta Souji, their 'Leader' had just left to go back home in the big city. She, along with Yosuke, Chie, Yukiko, Kanji, Teddie and Naoto were all saddened by his departure. Inaba would not be the same without him anymore.
She wasn't going to let it get to her. It wasn't like she wasn't going to see him ever again. Before Souji left, he had mentioned visiting her during the May holidays, or possibly visiting them during summer. The group had talked about visiting the beach a few months prior with Rise leading the way.
Rise talked a lot with Souji during the few months she'd known him. He helped clear up any doubts she had about going back and becoming an idol singer. Sure, he could seem distant at times, but he really was a nice boy who said the right thing at the right time. She mentioned h

It would be so easy to simply give up, wouldn't it?
Wha? Rise blinked, stunned by Naoto's sudden introspection. What are you talking about?
Naoto looked down at her hands, staring at them as though they weren't her own. I... let him go, didn't I?
...let him go...
Chie squeaked, looking around her in alarm. What was that?!
I didn't hear anything, said Yosuke, though he seemed doubtful of his own hearing. Maybe it was the wind?
The wind can't talk, Yosuke! insisted Chie, shaking her head. I swear, someone spoke!

For the next few weeks, right up until Souji was going to visit, Rise worked hard to bulk up as much as she can in the TV world while building up the perfect body to show off to Souji as well as for the shoot. She still wanted to see if she could show off her hyper-muscled physique to Souji, but wasn't sure how to make TV reality so to speak, and she was running out of time. Not only did she have to take care of her usual chores, her workouts and schoolwork, but also she had to coordinate with everyone and her management team on when and where she was going to set up her shoots.
The day came when Souji was going to come visit them. He had called Yosuke and the others that he'll be arriving at the train station about 11:00am. The train pulled into the station and Souji grabbed his luggage and disembarked the platform. As he stepped out onto the platform and glanced around, he could see his friends

Glispa was a girl of sixteen summers, blossoming proudly into a fitting example of Navajo womanhood. Her eyes and hair were of the deepest black, like a pool that a man could become lost in. It was in the early days of Navajoland, and many things which are had not yet come to pass.
Glispa was the daughter of a hunter, a brave who provided plenty for his family, and for those in the village who were infirm. This generosity made Glispas family respected, and her hand in marriage was sought by many suitors. "It's so dark in there..." whispered Rise, unable to tear her gaze from the wide, vertical Rift.
Souji faintly registered the fact that none of his friends could look away from the massive crack in the TV World, and he was forced to exert considerable effort in diverting his own eyes from it.
"Should we... even be here?" asked Chie to no one in particular.
"What are you talking about?" said Yosuke, looking confused.
"Well, I meant that it makes me feel weird. Just standing right next to it... I don't know how to describe it. It's almost familiar somehow."
"I know what you mean," agreed Yukiko. "It's like I'm tired. Almost drained."

The group trudged on toward the dark, gaping Rift through the desolate landscape, the chill wind seeming to howl through the barren, dusty plain. The black clouds above rumbled ominously as though attempting desperately to unleash a downpour upon the thirsty, broken ground.
Souji held tightly onto Naoto, covering her shivering body with his jacket as she leaned closer to him for warmth. Turning slightly, he looked around at the rest of the group to see how they were dealing with the sudden drop in temperature. Yosuke and Chie huddled together with Yukiko in the middle, all three protecting each other with their body heat. Rise snuggled close to Teddie, who seemed all too happy for the closeness. "Hmph," Naoto placed the now-cleaned plate aside and snatched up her tenth piece of vanilla cake, "I'll eat as much as I want, Rise-chan..."
Rise sighed. Ever since their last venture into the TV world, Naoto had been afflicted with a new status effect known as 'Extreme Hunger'. The only real thing Souji found useful about this place was that he could come here and have a nice smoke without anyone getting up in his face. It was nice. I was walking down the beaten path of the commercial-residential district when a familiar-looking lady approached me. She smelled nice, a mixture of baby cologne and freshly laundered clothes. Ah, this was the girl who gave good belly rubs. I sat down and allowed her to stroke my head.
She smiled at me. "Your fur is clean today. Did someone give you a bath?"
I barked my acknowledgment. The woman who owned Chouji, a brown Akita I got along with, spotted me that morning and gave me a much needed bath. It was really nice of her, considering that it was a really hot day, and I haven't had a bath in ages.

Rise is a liar.
Not to be cruel, of course; Naoto knows this. For Rise is the rare tender soul who always gives more than she takes, so freely and with such extraordinarily unconditional love that it is difficult not to be dazzled and therefore unaware of just how much Rise lies to everyone.
But she does. She lies. To everyone.
Even to herself.
Naoto knows this, too. She has heard it, observed it, felt it, even: when Rise hugs herself close to both Naoto's and Kanji's arms on their strolls along the river plain; or when she nuzzles sleepily between them, her hair tickling at Naoto's or Kanji's cheek, depending which way her head is turned; or when she slips, sweaty and slick, from one mouth to another, on the nights when Naoto or Kanji or both invite her to share in the finest expression of their affection. That is when Rise lies. When she giggles, or hums, or moans at Naot
