Photoshop Actions, along with GIMP scripts, and other scripted, systematic, post editing procedures, can be very useful for professional photographers who have to edit a large number of photos in a short period of time. They are also useful for quickly surveying a large number of potential post editing routes, say if you want to go for a vintage feel, bring out
Around the block and back to dAI've been on other art sharing sites. But in the end I always come back to dA.Around the block and back to dA3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Why? I don't really think dA offers anything special in terms of browsing features, options, or other amenities. Its forums are just like any other forums. Frankly its journal and news system has become a machine for spewing out drama.
But there's something special about its people.
Somehow dA has managed to bring together people from all around the world who share a common appreciation for art; people who show their appreciation for art either by faving, watching and supporting other artists or by contributing their own artworks and striving towards improving their art.
People here don't have a concept of a "repost." To us, it's simply art theft. If you didn't make it from scratch from your own two hands, don't even attempt to put your name on it and pass it off as your creation here.
People here don't obsess over front page. We don't give thank you speeches for getting on front page as if it's some life ch

Five Things You Didn't Know About the New Avatar1. Making The Legend of Korra requires hundreds of artists in three different countries. In addition to the artists at the Nickelodeon Animation Studios in Burbank, Calif., we collaborated with Studio Mir in South Korea. They handled designing characters and backgrounds as well as all the animation and compositing for the first season. We also worked with a studio in India called Technicolor. It handled the CG vehicle models — all the cars, airships, and other CG vehicles. But even though we use computers to help us make the show, all the animation of the characters and bending effects are still hand-drawn.Five Things You Didn't Know About the New Avatar3 years ago in Personal More Like This
2. The character of Korra's polar bear-dog, Naga, was actually created ten years ago. When we were developing the original series back in 2002, Bryan had done a sketch of a bipedal polar bear-dog creature. We never found a place for it in Avatar: The Last Airbender. But when we came up with Korra's character, we wanted her to have an animal mode of transport and revisited tha

How to win at deviantART: The categories gameThe categories game refers to the switching or misplacement of deviations into less competitive or algorithm preferred submission categories in order to gain a ranking advantage in dA's popularity algorithm, generally as a means of appearing more frequently on front page and subsequently gaining greater exposure. How to win at deviantART: The categories game3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
The categories game arises from the inherent category biases under dA's "fair exposure" policy. The goal of the policy is to "maximize the display of the most popular deviations in a variety of topics with Fair Exposure, the community is exposed to a varied cross-section of deviantART. " What this boils down to is that certain categories have inherent ranking advantages and others inherent ranking disadvantages on front page. For more information on dA's fair exposure policy and how it leads to the categories game, consult my last journal on "How to win at deviantART: Exposed: http://roseonthegrey.deviantart.com/journal/How-to-win-at-deviantART-Exposed-289765235"

Q&A: Is Art School Worth It?This is a question that I get pretty often, and I'd like to start this by saying I honestly have no idea. It's such a hard thing to gauge due to there being so many external and internal parameters that there's no do-all end-all answer. I'm still not sure if Art School was completely worth it even for myself. If I don't know, surely I must not be the right person to ask.Q&A: Is Art School Worth It?4 years ago in Personal More Like This
I can provide you with some tips from experience about things you could consider, should you be considering higher education. (And by that, I'm speaking about full four-year style colleges that offer full-time curriculum for a Bachelors or Masters degree.)
Now, as I mentioned above, this is truthfully a touchy subject. I don't want to be held liable for ruining anyone's future. So take what I say as opinion, not fact. Also my opinions come from being raised within a middle-class family. Not YOUR family.
I'd also like to take this moment and disclaim I wrote this very late at night while watching Top Gear and
be really dedicatedSo, I was drawing at work yesterday (I'm now at WB btw, yay!), when I just looked down, startled, and thought, "This is what I wanted it to look like." I suddenly couldn't fathom how that had happened. Like I don't remember when I got to the point where someone tells me their idea, then I'm able to sit down and just MAKE THAT THING. I remember being someone who couldn't figure out how to do that, and I acknowledge being the me I am now, but where were the two bridged and when did I cross? This whole week has kind of been like that - me thinking about the person I was when I joined this site and the person I am today.be really dedicated2 years ago in Personal More Like This

The best advice in this post is: If you need legal counsel, then seek it. Don't get it from the internet or this post. Hire professionals who do it for a living, and for the love of god, don't defend yourself in court.
you all know i am not very technical so this is gonna be pretty rough at best but this is what i do if i find my art somewhere i don't want it.......
the first thing i do is contact the person displaying it and advise them all my images are copyright protected and please remove it....
then i wait a few days...
if the image is still there then i send the site an email with this form.....keeping things professional at this point is a must...and just sending an email asking them to remove the image will not work......here is the form i use

APOPHYSISWe are going to have special features (from time to time)about the different software programs that we all use to make our fractal image art. This first one centers around the very popular program APOPHYSIS.APOPHYSIS3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Apophysis is an open source fractal flame editor and renderer for Microsoft Windows.
Apophysis has many features for creating and editing fractal flames, including an editor which allows one to directly edit the transforms by manipulating triangles, a mutations window, which applies random edits to the triangles, an adjust window, which allows the adjustment of coloring and location of the image, and even a scripting language with direct access to most of the components of the fractal, which allows for effects such as the animations seen in Electric Sheep, which are also fractal flames. Users can export fractal flames to other fractal flame rendering programs, such as FLAM3.Scott Draves invented Fractal Flames and published an open source implementation written in C in t

A very important messageHi everyone! How are you all doing? It's been awhile since I updated my journal and there is a particular issue I want to discuss...A very important message3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Art theft. It seems lately, I've noticed, that it's getting worse and worse. Or at least for me anyway... So I wanted to dig deep into the meaning of art theft and explain in detail what it means to us artists trying to make a living, or for any under-appreciated artist.
What is Art Theft?
This is my personal answer to this question. Art theft is the action of a person(s), in which they deliberately copy, reproduce, edit, publish, transmit, upload, etc, in any way, without artist written consent (written consent is far more legit than spoken words, as written can be a binding contract, which can be later used as evidence). Art theft is the action of right-clicking & saving, uploading (without permission). It can also be art theft when deliberately copied, such as painting the exact photograph (if said photograph is NOT a stock photo), and used without per
Frequently asked1. How long have you been using watercolors?Frequently asked6 years ago in Personal Journal More Like This
I started more actively as I entered high school around 2002.
2. What kind of paper do you use?
3 different ones: Classic watercolour paper 250g/m², Bockingford watercolour paper 300g/m² and Canson's Montval watercolour paper 300g/m², which I found from a discount.
3. Paper size?
Usually A4 (8.27 x 11.69 inches) or half smaller format A5, since they're so easy to file in that size.
4. By "aquarelles" do you mean colored pencils?
No, but fine watercolors. All the watercolors I use come as button-colors (or "cakes" as some call them).
5. What's the difference between fine watercolors and thicker watercolors?
Fine ones need more water and less color to look smooth and make wonderful washes, unlike with thicker ones you need to use more color and less water for it's different opaque. The thicker watercolors I use are called "peitevärit" in Finnish, but I don't know the correct translation fo

Warning: long journal is long !
I've been talking with fellow deviants this morning, and a lot of thoughts came to my mind. A lot of things I think it could be nice to talk about, 2011 is almost gone and I could do my part sharing with you my resolutions for the new year, deviantART related clearly
I remember that when I started fractaling three years ago that I got comments, faves, watches, support since the very first days I decided to publish my early practicing flames. I remember getting features, joining active groups (at that time the best ones were FractalDreams and ImagersFractalDDs ) participating to many contests. I wonder... is it still like this? How does the new-come fractal artist feel when he/she first tries to join deviantART fractal community?
Maybe it's just my impression, but I think this place has become less welcoming than it used to be, despite
