Copyright Infringement vs. Art Theft, a rant.As I've advertised many a times before, I have a store here http://www.redbubble.com/people/lillykitten on a site called Redbubble. It sells Tees, Hoodies, Stickers, Posters, iPhone and iPad covers. One of the things I love about it is I can get pop culture Tees there for my obscenely large Geek Shirt Collection where other printing groups, like Cafepress, Zazzle and even DA its self refuse to sell fanart because of the copyright issues.Copyright Infringement vs. Art Theft, a rant.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I have no problem with this refusal, they're abiding by the rules and respecting the original artists. That's a GOOD thing...
However... Being a fan artist myself, when it comes to copyright infringement of pop culture icons, I'm guiltily ambivilant. I love fan art, I love seeing people's different interpretations, I love the terrible terrible jokes we make about our fandoms... and I will buy, and will continue to buy tees, stickers and prints done by fan artists.
The fact is merchandising

There are a multitude of things that can make this world a better place and art is one of them. It speaks to us in unique and personal ways. No two people view a piece of art with exactly the same perspective.
When a work of art is presented to the public, the one belief that is shared by each beholder is that the piece was indeed created by the artist who proclaims as much.
Fifty years ago art theft meant a completely different thing than it does today. Theft usually involved the actual pilfering of a physical piece with the intent to sell it. The lesser known crime of forging an artist’s style and rendering a copy purported to have been painted by the usually famous artist was also mostly an opportunistic money grab.
With the advent of the internet things have changed. Traditional art theft is no less prevalent, but because there is a much larger forum for placing art w
FAQ - UpdatedI thought it would be nice to have a FAQ as I get often questions about my costumes and also about the use of my pictures. Here you can find the answers to those questions.FAQ - Updated3 years ago in Personal More Like This
1.) Who took all your pictures?
A: My friend Janet Drake takes all my costuming pictures. You can find her page here: http://www.facebook.com/JanetDrakePhotographyAndCostume
2.) I want to share your pictures on my website/blog.
A: I'm always happy whenever someone wants to share my work. If you do so, I'd be very grateful if you would credit me and my photographer Janet Drake & link me the place where you shared my picture. Thank you!
3.) I would like to draw you/make a photomanipulation of one of your pictures.
A: First of all: Thank you for being inspired by my work. Please add credits to the picture as soon as you post it online (of me and my photographer) and link me the final piece. I'm always super excited to see other people's artworks of my costumes and I love to share them on my p
The Armor Design ContestIt's about time this group had a contest, don't you think? Introducing the Armor Design Contest to start off 2015! ^_^The Armor Design Contest3 months ago in Deviant Events More Like This
A Little Backstory:
I am a writer in my free time, and I have a book coming along that isn't quite in the final stages- but could still use the help of all you creative designers.
I need an armor design for my characters to wear as battle garb and/or uniform. Just like the robes in Harry Potter, the T-Shirts in Percy Jackson, and the body suits in The Hunger Games.
What you need to do:
This is a contest of design, so of course I will need to see most of the design in your entry. Feel free to pose your model, but make sure the primary design of the outfit is obviously visible.
Only one model is required, but if you choose to you are welcome to add a background, features, and male/female modifications to impress me even further.
You can choose to do Male OR Female
It is highly preferred your entry is colored, as it will improve your chances of winning greatly.

SORRY BUT I NEED TO RANTI HATE how societal values have leaked into cosplaying. Why do I say that? Well, in case you haven't noticed, cosplaying has turned into who looks the sexiest and other similar crap. It makes me want to cry. When I first started cosplaying, it was really about how well made things were and how well rounded as a cosplayer you were. You didn't really judge people as much, and if you were wearing the same character/cosplay, you were cool with it. Now, if you are wearing the same cosplay, you get glares or compared to others and embarrassed/shamed. This is why I hate doing characters like Tifa, because there are usually a few around. Some of them are very judgmental. A few think it's cool and congratulate you.SORRY BUT I NEED TO RANT1 year ago in Personal More Like This
What has this turned into?!?!
Cosplaying is a hobby. Meaning IT'S FOR FUN. Not everyone is born with awesometastic sewing or construction skills. They shouldn't stop us from doing what we love. I hate that we as a society have become so shallow and superficial. I care much more

You guys don't know how proud I am for the drawings I made here http://nettopainter.deviantart.com/art/Skullgirls-Joystick-Cover-384299634 , I mean, I think I personally did a great job mimicking the style of Skullgirls, and most of the stuff I did I made it myself. It's a great feeling of accomplishment.
As an artist, sometimes you feel some kind of negativity towards your art, thinking it's not good enough or you simply don't like the style, and the feeling of seeing something that you are actually proud of is something that leaves you in a good mood. In this case I felt really happy for it, specially because it's also one of the fastest drawings I have ever done of... damn, like, 11 characters? (2:30 lineart, 4:00 coloring and shading. /30-40 minutes every full drawing.)
Anyhow, it was a great day, I felt very happy. But sometimes I feel like

My DeviantArt StoryFirst of all, I want to say Happy 14th Birthday DeviantArt!!!My DeviantArt Story8 months ago in Personal More Like This
Well, I see that many people are doing this, so why not? This is gonna be a (quite boring) story of when I first joined in, about 2 years ago.
In 2012, I had just turned 13. I discovered this site through internet searches for "Fakemon", and I created this account just to be able to comment, fav and watch an amazing artist I found. And like that, I created my DA account the 31st of October.
In the beginning, I just browsed and faved Fakemon art, until I started uploading a bit of my own (crappy art, I must say).
Eventually, I made some friends who were in the Fakemon Community, and it was like that for a few months.
During that time, I met with a remarkable artist, tjmoonstudios. He introduced me to PMD RP groups, and he encouraged me to join Poke-Heroes-Guild, which I ultimately did.
I was a 13 year old idiot with no drawing skills, only in there for the experience. I think that my DeviantAr
who made Black Cat queen of the universe?Okay I'll admit that I am not sure if people all of a sudden want every artist to draw Black Cat at cons and for commission or if folks just want me to do it! But at the recent Boston Comic Con I had 4 Black Cat commissions by lunchtime of the first day. My mantra for the rest of the weekend when asked if I was still taking commissions was, "Yeah, anyone but the Black Cat!"
