The DA camera bag...again-educate yourselvesI know that everyone saw or will soon enough, the ad for the DA camera bag under "notices" inside your message center. I am sure some of you are chomping at the bit at having it aren't you? Well, I am here to tell you don't. I am also here to educate you WHY you shouldn't. How about the sheer lack of size for a start. In the past people with dslr's like Nikon d300s, Canon 7D's etc couldn't get their camera to fit inside it, it was simply to small of a bag. Heck, I even know a few folks who had d70s and d80s who couldn't fit their camera inside. While the ad says "now larger", it doesn't exactly say HOW MUCH larger and that means that you are taking a risk. Now let's really get down to the reality of the situation.
It is, for all intents and p
The best thing I have ever readThe best thing I have ever read as it relates to photography. Period. Bar none. http://guytal.com/wordpress/2011/12/the-value-and-futility-of-critique/ Think I am kidding? I'm not. It says it all completely. A little excerpt:The best thing I have ever read3 years ago in Personal More Like This
"Most mature and accomplished artists who embraced their own creativity no longer have much use for critique. From that point on, the critic is but a voice representing the tastes of others, who may or may not understand the work, and whose opinion is not likely to make an impact on the artist's direction. The exception, perhaps, is when the artist considers the critic a better artist than they are."
Photography quote of the day? (unrelated to the above but perhaps the other best thing i have ever read as it relates to photography) Sure why not, catch---

How They Did It: The Story Behind the ShotHTDI:TSBTS aims to guide emerging photographers by showcasing tips, techniques, and stories generously shared by some of dA's most accomplished Photography > Animals, Plants & Nature artists. At the same time, we hope to shed light on the often overlooked amount of effort that is required to create striking images like these. Making a great photograph takes time, planning, a creative eye, and solid photography skills. What happens behind the lens is just as important as the final product! How They Did It: The Story Behind the Shot3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I am sure many of you have been told "Great photo! You must have an awesome camera!" or "Wow, you sure were lucky to get that shot!" While a "good camera" and "luck" are small ingredients when creating a visual feast, we photographers would like to remind everyone that technical competency, determination, patience, and creative vision are the real meat and potatoes of any tasty photo.
"Was it luck that I happened to wake up at 3am fi
My eyes are bleedingWoke up, got coffee, checked email and G+, came here, looked at the first 2 pages of DA and my eyes completely bled. No less than 5 stolen pieces of art. Five. Seriously DA, get your ass together. Enough with the "needs third party" bullshit that is needed for removing stolen art. Hire more staff and actually be responsible. As much as I can't stand SOPA, I have to admit, maybe it's the best damn thing could happen to a website like this one.My eyes are bleeding3 years ago in Personal More Like This

Feature: Stories with no wordsAn image is worth a thousand storiesFeature: Stories with no words3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
OmeN2501, creator of the following deviation, Rain, says in the artist comments:
"Story behind it is pretty simple, they want something form her, she cannot let them have it... no matter the cost"
Who is she?
Now the viewer is left with a series of questions... Who is she? Who is pursuing her? What do they want from her? Why is this thing so important she's willing to take her own life if that means they won't have it? What would happen if they get it? And most importantly; what circumstances lead the pieces of this story up to this point?
The answers to these questions are left open to the viewer. It's up to you to decide who she is.
Tip of the Day: is it memorable? In this ever growing art community (especially online) it gets harder and harder to be noticed. You will be noticed when your art and/or the idea behind your art is unique.Tip of the Day: is it memorable?3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Think about how memorable your art is. If it looks like a million other things, no one is going to remember it.

Tip of the Day: Dealing with StressStress is the root for many health problems. It's not necessary. Just do what you need to do. Stop stressing.Tip of the Day: Dealing with Stress3 years ago in Personal More Like This
In high pressure situations if I start stressing I will think what is the worst that could happen and how could I bounce back from that. Once I see that I would still be ok and be able to come back from that difficulty... then the stress disappears. Then I start imagining what would it feel like to be successful and that gets me excited to continue towards my goals.
Stress is something that everyone deals with in their own ways but if you don't have an effective way to deal with it, feel free to try my method.

Conifer featureThe annoying part of living where I do is that finding conifer forests is quite hard, scratch that, impossible. I grew up in a small town surrounded by conifer forest on three sides and a lake on the fourth. I know I can't live where there is no water but while living here since 2009 I've realised I need my real forest not the leafy forest. I need pine cones and evergreens. To satisfy my need a little I went rummaging on dA and found a couple of pretty photos.Conifer feature1 year ago in Personal More Like This
It really wouldn't be a feature from me if I didn't have a fav limit so all of these have less than 100, several have less than 10 favs. Several of the ones with few favs are several years old so make sure to give them lots of love!
Btw. still open for submissions to another conifer feature, max 5 photos though and it can be either yours or someone else. Note or comment with your picks.
