Please avoid a manual install and use the GNOME Tweak Tool, it's much easier.
You can use the gnome-shell theme extension for easier switching of themes.
GNOME Tweak Tool
Make sure you have user-theme-extension installed. Load the GNOME Tweak Tool and go to Shell Extensions and click the "Use Theme Extension" switch. Now go to "Theme" and click the Shell Theme box and locate your theme zip. Now you can select the theme in the dropdown box.
Ok so just an update of the last screenshot so not taking 2 screenshots. Still using same GTK, icons, wall and so on. Just added Docky, conky, Covergloobus. My first time running Gnome 3.2 plus on Ubuntu, was much more familure with Gnome-Shell on Fedora 15 so some diferences for sure. But now know how to theme it like I want. A GTK theme I created to fit with the new Ubuntu's colour scheme. In the pack you can find: - SmartDark GTK - SmartDark Metacity (created with Homosapien online customizer) - desktop background - panel background
I completely revamped my desktop on this one New dock, new icons, new theme, and new emerald. I was looking for a dark gtk theme and I went through several until I found this one. Its very nice and usable! I also made the switch to docky. Its is so much better than AWN in my opinion. The only drawback was customizing the icons. Docky doesnt offer this feature so I had to go into the system icon theme and manually change them myself. it was a pain in the ***.
