Oh wow! Look at that! I made cakes, how unusual! (sarcasm)
I seriously don't want to be the "girl that only knows how to make cakes", but I always get cake requests from my family and friends. And I also have to admit that I really enjoy making cakes...
Anyway, I've always admired cake art. I've spent hours looking at beautifully decorated cakes, specially those intricate decorations they make over fondant like these: [link][link] . I just had to try it, this is what I came up with.
Please let me tell you that I hate these photographs. I HATE THEM. They all came out either too shiny or too dark, and I didn't notice how awful the photos were until all the cakes were spread among my acquaintances, so I had to do the best that I could.
I really liked these cakes, my favorite is the green one
Technique and tools as described in my polymer clay cake tutorial: [link]
I made some more cakes last month, I was planning to sell them when my store opens... but they're now all gone Some friends got them. Now I have to make more cakes to sell, so you'll be seeing a lot of cakes in the following weeks.
Chocolate & vanilla cakes with a creamy frosting. The one on the left has milk chocolate shavings, the one on the right has almonds.
I love almonds but my almond cane was barely ok, I have to work a bit more on my canes.
These little wood plates were part of the prize I received from ~KatGore. She's awesome! Her clay work is stunning and she's also really sweet, please give her some love
Comments and suggestions are always much appreciated
Technique and materials as used in my cake tutorial:
Yes, more cakes! And there's going to be more I've been making lots of cakes lately.
These cakes are a commission for *Conejita-Ginny, my first commission, yay! I hope she likes them
She wanted a chocolate and cherry cake like this one: [link] and a chocolate version of my strawberry shortcake: [link] . Looking back, I think that my frosting has improved a lot this one looks creamier.
I used the same techniques and tools I mentioned in my polymer clay cake tutorial:
Edit: thank you everyone for letting me know that the Portal cake is a Black Forest Cake. I still like the contrast of this version, but I'm going to make a newer version that is a Black Forest Cake inside I really appreciate the feedback!
It was bound to happen xD I had to make a Portal Cake one day! And I'm so glad I did, it was so much fun and they look great! As far as I know, you can't see the inside of the cake in the game... but I always imagined it would be a vanilla cake, I like vanilla cake covered in chocolate frosting and it makes a nice contrast. However, I can make them with a chocolate cake on request.
I'm not selling the full cake yet... it needs a bit of tweaking, the candle is too flimsy to be used as jewelry. Until I figure out what to do, I'll only sell the slice of cake xD unless you want the full cake for decoration only. I gave the full cake to =moofestgirl, you can see it in video here: [link]
Anyway, I hope you'll like them! I'm specially proud of the piping, it was so difficult to do that small -.-
Note: I used two different backgrounds and lightnings, so in one the flakes look more yellow and in the other they look redder. Funny how that works ._.
Comments and suggestions are always much appreciated and I take commissions too!
It was recently brought to my attention that it's difficult to tell just how small everything is in my orange cake earrings. So I took this photo with a penny as size reference. You can now see how small that cake is!
I don't usually take size reference photos, so I wasn't sure how to do it xD and I don't know if it's interesting. Should I keep doing it? I'm accepting suggestions!
I just found these old photos and wondered why I never published them xD I think they're a year old at least. That German Chocolate Cake is one of my favorite cakes ever! I made these for my dear friend =moofestgirl, I asked her what's her favorite cake and she said German chocolate cake... I also made her what I called a Chocolate Murder Cake with every form of chocolate I could think of xD
Chocolate Murder Cake: Dark chocolate cake filled with chocolate, with creamy chocolate frosting, chocolate sprinkles and hot chocolate sauce. Next time I'll add a small scoop of chocolate ice cream German chocolate cake: Milk chocolate cake filled and frosted with a coconut and pecan creamy frosting. A sweet chocolate frosting covers the side, some of it is used for decoration and it's topped with cherries and chopped pecans. And my strawberry shortcake, which I've made a million times already xD
This photo is really old xD I took it with my old camera in my lightbox, now I prefer to use natural light... mostly because I put the lightbox on top of a bookcase and I'm too short to get it down again T_T and lately I've felt that natural light makes everything look happier.
Handmade by me with polymer clay and metal findings. Everything is available for commission!
This is a commission I did for ~toxic-muffins. I was so very flattered to receive this commission because she is a clay crafter too, and after looking at some of her amazing creations (like this and this) I felt compelled to do an extra effort for her. She wanted me to make a couple of deco cupcakes for earrings in white and pink, with candy, hearts and sprinkles.
Extra complication: I've never made anything like this before I've never been good with deco stuff... and my cupcakes haven't been exactly perfect so far. When she told me what she wanted, there was one thing I tried to keep in mind all the time: over-the-top. That's what deco is to me. I know this is different from my usual style, so I hope I've succeeded xD (she said she liked them, so I suppose I sort of did )
Even though deco stuff is not exactly realistic, I tried to make the decorations as realistic as possible to feed my obsession with realism xD please let me know what you think! since I'm learning how to do this kind of stuff, I appreciate any feedback I can get.
Materials: Polymer clay, TLS, pastels, metal findings, cookie cutters, icing nozzle. No silicon was used, this is 100% polymer clay.
I love to make polymer clay cakes. I love them so much that I have to restrain myself from making them, because I don't want to be "the girl that only knows how to make cakes".
A tutorial to make them has received the most request any other tutorial has I've been working on it for a long time, but I always want to add something else, a photo, an explanation, a different technique... so in my eyes, it's never finished. So I figured that setting a deadline will help me finish it...
So there, I'll upload it tomorrow, February 13th and stop obsessing about it. Wait for it!
These are many cakes I made for the tutorial the blue and pink ones are my new favorite cakes EVER. They're so cute
More cakes made by me:
Edit: YES! I made it on time wohoooo tutorial here:
