Manga/Anime Spotlight is a weekly feature that highlights the different artists across the deviantART's Manga/Anime community, and is a portal to get to know a bit more about them and their works.
This week's feature is *SleepyKiks1.) To start off, what is your favorite medium and tools to use?
I am Primarily a digital art. I mostly use Flash CS3 but, I am also a fan of Fireworks CS4. I am about 50/50 between using a mouse and using a tablet. In the last few years I got a wacom cintiq which was a very nice upgrad from my old and well worn graphire. For traditional medium I have been learning to use markers for finished work instead of just comps and rough design.2.) When you draw, do you plan everything out first, or do you just see where the drawing takes you?

Recently, I announced changes to Daily Deviations in this journal and I'm happy to say that the response has been favorable. To review, we have made the following changes:
a> The "3-month rule" is now the "6-month rule" meaning an artist cannot receive another DD if they have had one in the last 6 months.
b> Daily Deviation selectors are limited to a maximum of one selection per day. This has been put in place to focus on quality vs quantity.
The hard-coding of these new guidelines is now in place (special thanks to $ZombieCoder for that).
These changes are part of an ongoing initiative to better our Dai

and most people know that they may not like it,
even if they understand there's another purpose to it.

Surrealism is destructive, but it destroys only
what it considers to be shackles limiting our vision.

This week's feature is *wbd1.) To start off, what is your favorite medium and tools to use?
I mainly work digitally using a tablet. I like to practice sketching with pencil and paper, but I've really saved time by moving digital end to end for my full pieces. Time is my biggest challenge right now.2.) When you draw, do you plan everything out first, or do you just see where the drawing takes you?
I try to plan as much of the picture as possible before I start. My process is like this- I start with a basic sketch, then I build the structure over it. After that, I use the structure to sketch the finished form, then I ink that. If I need to add a part to the piece, I go through that process

Walkthrough: TestingThis is based off an article I was asked to write for Model Mayhem, I’ve edited it to make it hopefully more interesting and useful to those of you looking to test with agencies, or who want more information about how tests work - this isn’t necessarily an example of a standard test, it’s more to show how unpredictable the world of Fashion is and hopefully to teach you to just roll with it!Walkthrough: Testing9 months ago in Community Relations More Like This
Tests (sometimes referred to online as TFP but only ever called tests in the real world) are when people come together and collaborate - essentially offering their work for free in return for photos for their portfolios.
Tests sometimes involve a full team (hair, make up, styling etc) or sometimes just involve the photographer and a model, there’s no set rules.
Testing: A Vague Walkthrough
The day I’m going to talk about is one of the least pre-planned shoots I’ve ever done - seriously, I thought I was going to have a nice quiet day o

The Founders of Impressionism - RenoirThe Founders of Impressionism - Renoir1 year ago in Projects More Like This
As part of deviantART's Art History Project, *Topicality and yours truly have prepared news articles regarding Impressionism, an art movement from the 19th Century whose main characteristic is the presence of tin yet visible brush strokes to create shapes that compose an image.
Today we bring you Pierre-August Renoir's biography, one of the biggest representatives of the style.
Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841-1919)
Born in Limoges on February 25 1841, Renoir was the sixth child of a working class family. In his youth he had a job at a porcelain factory, where people noticed his artistic talent and was chosen to paint designs on fine china. He also painted fans and religious hangings for missionaries.
At that time, Renoir often visited the Louvre, where he studied the work of the French Masters, dreaming of one day becoming one and having his art on those very same walls.
He began studying art in 1862 under Charles Gleyre in Paris, where he m

In this article we will review Claude Monet, one of the founders of Impressionism, a brief summary of his life and some of his paintings.
Claude Monet (1840-1926)
Born in Paris on the 5th of November 1940, Oscar-Claude Monet is considered the main representative of Impressionism as he stayed true to its philosophy during his whole life as an artist. It's one of his paintings, Impression, Sunrise; which gives the movement its name after critic Luis Leroy wrote a sarcastic review of it in a Parisian newspaper called Le Charivari.
From an early age Monet showed interest in art, and he was known in the community of Le Havre for his caricatures. He then met Eugene Boudin, a la
