Oil on panel/digital. I worked on this at the Illustration Master Class 2010. The assignment I choose to work on was to create a painting in the style fitting of Magic the Gathering. This would be a "white" card.
The fun part about some book covers is being able to release the art relatively quickly. This project was a lot of fun to work on getting friends to pose and learning a few new tricks along the way from Chris Seaman. Jim Pavelec was on-hand as well and became the model for the main hero.
As far as the art description I was nervous about the detail about the black dragon at night in a dark forest. Not that I used it as a trick but what came to mind was a bit of a weather effect: fog that came to the rescue as it's refracts light enough to light up the area from the moon. whew!
