This is an acrylic painting of a girl and her Yeti sitting viewing Mount of the Holy Cross, and Bowl of Tears lake. Mt. of the Holy Cross is one of my favorite 14er peaks, simply because it's such a long, journey-like hike and so incredibly beautiful. Holy Cross is just outside of Minturn, Colorado. I was hoping to make a series of classic Colorado scenes with a Yeti present. I will try to paint more when I have time.
The title means "Across Gjölls far reaching plains". In norse mythology Gjoll is the river that seperates the world of the living (Midgard) from the underworld (Helheim). It is said to be freezingly cold and filled with thousands of ice floes as sharp as knives. It has got strong similarities with the river Styx in greek mythology.

This was inspired by a wonderful trip I went on with my daughter's Grade 7 class, and their inspirational teacher. Johnston Canyon is a short distance from Banff, Alberta.
