Fear is where the greatest opportunities are. What are you afraid of?Fear is where the greatest opportunities are.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Failure? Rejection? Boredom? Not being good enough for something or someone?
I'm starting to notice in my own life that fear is usually a good indicator of where I have the greatest opportunity.
I'm not talking about fear of running into freeway traffic. That's a healthy respect for the laws of physics.
I'm talking about those things that if you are still long enough to listen to your own heart, you hear it telling you what you really hope for.
And usually there is a voice right behind it telling you why you cant have it, and all of the reasons why.
This past year, I have made an effort to start listening to the first voice, and and not to the second.
As I have been practicing this, I have started to notice something that I missed for years...
That fear voice is actually covering up the simple fact that I just have to choose. And then choose again. And again.
Every day wake up, live in gratitude, love the people around you, and know that you CAN. Really know tha

1) It's a tough life as an artist. You need more than just good drawing abilities to get by. I know a lot of people who are WAY better than me but can't make it as artists. You need to be personable and likable. Work on your people skills and be sincere. People can tell when it's fake.
2) Learn a broad range of skills. Don't just focus on illustration, but also learn the fundamentals of design, sculpture, painting, storyboarding, etc... those skill will help you more than you can possibly imagine.
3) Be yourself. Find your own style and really refine it.
4) Don't waste your education. Don't go out and party and drink when you should be studying and doing homework. They give you that homework for a reason!
5) Always try to be the best. Challenge yourself to make your assignments the best in your class. Always try to be
What is art? There's a lot of deviations on the front page that I check out just so I can read the comments. What is art?4 years ago in Personal More Like This
A lot of users seem to think they can define what is art and what isn't, and this never fails to infuriate me.
Have these people ever been to any art galleries? A lot of popular modern art looks like it's been drawn by 5 year olds in 5 minutes, while classical art all looks exactly the same. Maybe they should go visit some museums and start shouting "not art, herp derp" until they get thrown out.
If stuff you don't like makes the front page, it means there's an audience for that sort of stuff, in which case you should be blaming DeviantArt's user base rather than insulting the artists. Funnily enough, unoriginal Pokemon and Pony crap doesn't get as much hate as a lot of nude stuff. I wonder why. (*coughpersonalinsecuritiescough*)
Wikipedia's definition of art is: "Art is the product or process of deliberately arranging items (often with symbolic significance) in a way that influences and aff
Copyrights, patents, piracy etcHay guys, to what extent do you think it's okay to steal/copy stuff?Copyrights, patents, piracy etc4 years ago in Personal More Like This
I'm really undecided about many of these issues myself, so I made myself a wee questionaire and filled it in with my opinions.
Keep in mind I'm not a lawyer, and don't really care about what the actual laws are.
Do you think it's okay to pirate software, movies, music and books?
I support piracy because I see it as free advertising and believe that most people who would have paid for it still will.
I make a point to buy stuff I really like, though I'm more likely to support poorer developers or projects that just didn't pay off.
How about pirating really old stuff (NES games, The Beatles etc)?
It really bothers me how Nintendo are still trying to sell their old games, but then again they'd lose sales on their new games if they gave away those old ones for free. So *shrugs*. I've never felt bad about not paying for old stuff though, it's more important to support those who are actually

In another rare personal appearance on Pokémon Smash!, Game Freak director Junichi Masuda has announced that Pokémon Black Version 2 and Pokémon White Version 2 are in development, and will be released in Japan in June for the Nintendo DS. The games were also announced on the official Japanese and international websites.
New formes of Kyurem were also revealed. The Kyurem/Zekrom forme, 「ブラックキュレム」 Black Kyurem, will be the mascot of Black 2, while the Kyurem/Reshiram forme, 「ホワイトキュレム」 White Kyurem, will be the mascot for White 2, in contrast to the original Pokémon Black and White.
If these games are direct sequels of Black and White, as the title would suggest, they would be the first direct sequels in the Pok&

Donate for my Kidney Transplant!Hey guys, long time no see.Donate for my Kidney Transplant!4 years ago in Personal More Like This
I am writing to you just after a rather painful surgery so please forgive me if my words get a little tangled up - I'm pretty drowsy but this is incredibly important to share with everyone.
I have recently been placed on HelpHopeLive.com as a transplant recipient for funraising! This means that should anyone ever wish to, they can donate to my transplant fund directly and know it will safetly be put aside until used specifically on transplant related things.
It means so much to me that people have repeatedly asked to help out, and now I have a solid legitimate way to do so, and it's even tax deductable! So please, head on over to:
HELP HOPE LIVE
And take a peek at my page, maybe make a small donation!
Thanks for everyone's support, I am now a step closer to getting a transplant, and through this fund I will be able to financially afford it.

Now I used to agree with this whole-heartedly, but then--as some of you may remember and may even visit every so often--I got a second deviantart art account for my own personal artwork that doesn't involve PPGs or Pokémon of my IT characters that I never draw that nobody remembers... Anyway, I did it not to appease watchers or any of that but because I'm working on a story right now that I want to stand alone and earn interest without all of the people who have come to watch me because of PPGs. I don't own PPGs. They're not mine. I just draw them. Everyone knows that already. But I'd like

Using image sequences as animated textures in MayaToday I've been working on importing image sequences as animated textures into Maya.Using image sequences as animated textures in Maya4 years ago in Personal More Like This
For those of you who've never done this before, Maya is not very good at working with animated textures, it's very fussy.
Before you start, you have to make sure that the image sequence is called image.###.ext where ### is the incrementing frame number. Then you create a file texture node, and load the first image, then tick "Use Image Sequence" in the file node.
The first thing you realise upon doing this, is that if your timeline extends before or after the first or last frame in your animated sequence, Maya throws a hissy fit and doesn't know what to do with it.
To get around this, I added an attribute to my object which I was going to animate a texture on, called "frameLength", where I stored the number of the last frame in my animated sequence.
I also added an attribute called "startFrame" which is the frame I want to start my animated texture on.
Then I created an expression so it didn

THAT'S RIGHT YOU ARE A SHOE.
THERE'S NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT NOT BEING A SHOE BECAUSE IN MY MIND YOU ARE ONE AND THAT IS MOST UNFORTUNATE.
AS LONG AS I HAVE YOU CONCEPTUALIZED AS A SHOE IN MY IMAGINATION YOU SHALL REMAIN AS SUCH.
THIS MAKES ME WONDER WHETHER ALL PEOPLES AND OBJECTS CAN BE CONCEPTUALIZED AS SHOES AND THUS BECOME SUCH, GRANTING ME ABSOLUTE POWER OVER THEM. DOES SNIPPY HAVE A CLEVER ARGUMENT? NO HE DOESN'T, HE'S A SHOE. SHOES CAN'T HAVE CLEVER ARGUMENTS.
I FEEL LIKE THE WEIGHT OF THE WORLD HAS BEEN LIFTED OFF MY SHOULDERS NOW THAT EVERYTHING IS UNDER MY CONTROL, NOW THAT YOU ARE ALL SHOES. I NO LONGER HAVE TO ANSWER TO MY REGRETS AND PAST MISTAKES BECAUSE THEY ARE SIMPLY SHOES.
I WAS EVEN ABLE TO PAINT PHOTOSHOP IN PURPLE COLOR (TO PLEASE CAPTAIN) AND SHE DIDN'T EVEN PUT UP A PROPER FIGHT BECAUSE I IMAGINED HER AS A SHOE.

Hah what do you see as a 'good first impression of her character'. You want her to be nice? Friendly? Selfless? That's the OPPOSITE of her character. The incest thing is not a major plot element at this time, so cool your jets. 9/11 was Bleed's and Bleed's alone and fans were given the option of striking it from the record and they chose to let it stay. That's that.
I've no problems when you voice your opinion but it seems to me that you're either being fed information or you're over-reacting WAY too much. Again, I suggest you wait until everything is finished before getting antsy. That way, you won't explode in my face about every little thing along the way
I don't think that person even suggested Mandy being nice. I think it's the fact that she's humping everything that moves is what's hillarious. 9/11 was bleed's and bleed's alone yet youre the editor who's also the consultant? SO you agreed to put it in
production and painting approach to digitapaintingthe production approach vs the painting approach when it comes to digital painting.production and painting approach to digitapainting2 years ago in Personal More Like This
i would like to dedicate this post to emphasize the importance of both these areas. In my opinion an artists should be very clear about practicing and dedicating time to both approaches. But most importantly to keep two different approaches separate. When your in production you do things what ever makes the shot work. When your at home you practice your painting skills to improve as a painter.
So here is how i see these 2 approaches.
1. time, fast paced work for fast moving production
2. realism is achieved easily because you use the element straight away
3.its easier to convey specifics and "WOW" people with a digital image that has a high factor of realism. The viewer sees more detail in context.
1.the skill is not in the painting its about integrating elements and balancing. So it has a lower artistic painters integrity.
2.you bypass practice of certain artistic r
Phones SuckA lot of people ask me if I'm porting any of my games to phones. I never will, and here's why.Phones Suck3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Let's put aside the considerable effort it would take to translate the code and assets from Flash format, and look at some of the design problems.
The main games in the Epic Battle Fantasy series have too much information on screen to fit onto a tiny phone screen with touch controls. There's menus with 20+ icons, info bubbles for status effects, foe info bubbles, HP/MP bars etc... It would be very difficult to make all of these buttons and information large enough for use with your fat fingers. The interface would have to be simplified to the point where there's no more than maybe 10 buttons on screen at any time, which would mean throwing out like three quarters of the game mechanics and content.
Bullet Heaven would never work without either physical buttons, a mouse, or stylus controls. Most phones don't have any of those, and even if they did, the small screen wouldn't allow ver

This is my first journal entry here. I should really consider being more active on DA, however it's hard to when I can't submit anything. Of course, there's always my Facebook page, whereupon I do post updates every now and then.
But I digress...
So it's my intention to create a new album. This album will have a collection of piano songs by me. There will be old piano solos, arrangements of Epic Battle Fantasy songs, and some new songs too. I'll probably have this album sold in both CD format and MP3 format (probably ITunes...). The title of this album is "Musician, Magician".
Of course, every album needs a cover. And while I can do a little bit (and I mean only a little) in Photoshop, I don't consider what I create visually to be anything impressive. So, I want to ask my fans for some help! And might as well make it a contest too (prizes and all)!
So here's the details:

"the action of delaying or postponing something."
Why am I talking about this?
Well, a year ago I used to be a professional procrastinator. I've imposed the 365 Days of Doodles challenge to myself for this particular reason.
While procrastination is to some degree a natural phenomenon and can’t be completely eradicated, you can use the following strategies to get in the habit of getting drawings done.
Mind that these are not golden rules or such, just strategies that work fo
FAQ! Finally!Hello everybody!FAQ! Finally!4 years ago in Personal More Like This
I've been getting an increase in notes and messages lately asking all kinds of things. Problem is, I'm far from having the time to answer all these questions individually (even if I did have it it would probably make more sense to spend it drawing), but I don't want to leave them unanswered either since I appreciate everyone's feedback a lot. So I decided to make a kind of FAQ, since I'm mostly being asked the same things over and over.
I'll try to group these semantically so reading though them makes a bit of sense.

A little insight into the history of not only Typography, but also of written language. This article will be far from covering it all, but focuses on highlighting some of the major events and periods in the history of Typography.
From the Greek roots τύπος typos = "impression" and -γραφία -graphia = "writing".
