HADRON COLLIDER: New Color Discovered
A funny thing happened at the Large Hadron Collider near Geneva, Switzerland.
The world’s most powerful particle accelerator was engineered to prove or disprove the existence of the Higgs boson – the so-called “God particle” that could unlock the secrets of several major conundrums of modern physics. But along the way, whilst smashing atoms together in their collider, the scientists have come up with somethin

Our Wearable Tech Future
What if you could wear your computer or smartphone as a neck tattoo someday?
Motorola has patented the concept of an "electronic skin tattoo" for your throat, equipped with an "embedded microphone" and "a transceiver for enabling wireless communication." This futuristic tattoo would help you communicate with smartphones, personal computers or other "mobile communication devices."

Inking on the L.A.M.The past few weeks were emotionally rough, so I found myself closing down, creatively, and retreating into an analytic frame of mind. I started getting very picky about technical things, focusing like a laser on - you guessed it - brush strokes. This sort of thing has the potential to quickly degenerate to the level of a symptom. In my case, I think it starts as a symptom, which is my signal to elevate it to practical knowledge and skill by channeling it through art.Inking on the L.A.M.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
In any event, after a long period of "obsessing," I formulated a new, streamlined understanding of brush inking abstracted from all I have explained so far. And it should come as no surprise that, as with my original brush handling "katas", it's based on my experience in the martial arts.
"Inking on the L.A.M." * is a simple, practical, and elegant way to approach controlling ink effects by matching brush movement to the kind of lines and marks one wants to make. It is analytical, not intuitive, wh

World War 3 may just be months away, with much of the middle east currently being blown apart by missiles and the locals setting their neighbours on fire, but the real news is that the Twinkie, the USA's primary contribution to world cuisine, could cease to be.
"You eat those?" I hear people ask. Hell no. Never eaten one in my life. There's something about their unnatural, chemical-yellow colour and that they have a half-life rather than a use-by date that just sets off one too many alarm-bells.
In fact, I'm pretty sure that if you read the print on the pack, you'll find asbestos to be a key ingredient.
Even John McClane can't keep one down, and he took out a building full of terrorists with nothing but his bare feet and a Santa hat.
Which leads to my point: Without the Twinkie, there are SO many lines from SO many classic movies that future generations just a

Tolkien was, undeniably, a genius, but, for the love of creativity and dynamism; read another f**king book, people.
There's a world of culture, history and myth out there to seek inspiration from! Fantasy should be an exciting, twisted reflection of the world around us, not an endless stream of pirated Lord of the Rings DVDs.

I figured it out from black and white.
Seconds and hours.
Maybe they had to take some time.
I know how it goes from wrong and right.
Silence and sound.
Did they ever hold each other tight
Did they ever fight
We can make it 'til the end.
Nothing can come between
Not even the Gods above
Can separate the two of us.
I figured it out.
Saw the mistakes of up and down.
Meet in the middle.
There's always room for common ground.

UpdizzlesHey doodies! Just wanted to drop in and apologize with the slow replies to messages, I have like 250 messages and they're all comments haha *dies*. I'll try to get through to answering some, but in the meantime the reason I haven't been on top of things is cause I'm busy as hell C: Finals next week (Yay!), finally getting the bulk of m stuff moved, my family's coming up for graduation, and work has been swamping me- They need experienced guards to go out and work with all the new summer hires, and there's a ton of them haha. I'm also working for my bartending licensee because I covered my friend's shift and made more in tips in one night than I do in a twelve hour shift haha. And some bad stuff too, but that doesn't matterUpdizzles2 years ago in Personal More Like This
So fun stuff all around, unfortunately I don't think I'm getting much of a break for summer either but I'll try to be art-productive and get back in the swing of posting finished (for the most part) pieces again, work on my AUs, and of course do that pair project

Hack Your Brain
Brain Bulb by tiffrmc720
What if any creator could build a powerful and affordable brain-interface device at home?
Ateam of scientists have raised more than $215,000 on Kickstarter to build a simple Electroencephalography (EEG) device that anyone can use to help “unlock the mysteries of the human brain” by measuring electrical activity inside your head. These brain hackers have a radical vision for the future. The device includes a collection of wearable electrodes, an amplifier that measures the electrical activity in your brain and a built in “signal processing

I listen to Hollywood Babble On, a thoroughly puerile show (probably one of the reasons it’s on my playlist) which is hosted by Ralph Garman and Kevin Smith. A little while back, a teacher of Garman’s kid was said to be in the audience and Garman joked that he’d better be on his best behaviour otherwise the teacher would call child protective services ‘round.
Smith’s jokingly sexual humour over the course of the show didn’t help out with this at all, AND it gave me an idea for a quick pin-up to draw….. which I did….. and which I thought, at the time, would be really funny to send to them….. which I did…. along with a gag about me drawing smutty comics…… which has come back to bite me…..
Oh, god, there isn’t a rock big enough for me to hide under.
Last chicken in Sainsbury's“Dirty Bird”, a fried chicken vendor in Wales, has been forced to defend its choice in logo:Last chicken in Sainsbury's9 months ago in Personal More Like This
Some rather prudish individuals have complained that it looks a mite dubious, while the owner of Dirty Bird has insisted that people are seeing what they want to see, and not what was intended.
It is claimed that the logo is simply the lower case initials of the company placed back to back in order to form the neck and wings of a cockerel.
Seeing one of Dirty Bird’s recent promotional images, however; one might be given cause to doubt their professed innocence.
And people ask why I like living on this spiteful little island

There has always been this obsession with the others we share this planet with.
We communicate with them on certain basic levels and yet they inhabit a plane so different from ours: savage, instinctive, a life of sheer survival. At the same time they can do things beyond human abilities: fly through the skies, swim the oceans, apply t

deviantART and Journal spam: what we're doing!Spam is a constant thorn in the side of every Internet user's daily life. From the mundane to the surreal, these emails appear in our inboxes so frequently, messages from South African attorneys offering $10 million dollars get marked as spam without a second thought to savvy users.deviantART and Journal spam: what we're doing!4 years ago in Personal More Like This
We define spam as the misuse of communication systems to send unsolicited bulk messages indiscriminately to our deviants. Typically, the content of spam messages is aimed at advertising a product that is often counterfeit or potentially malicious. With the rise of social networking, there's been an increase in more direct spamming -- companies who directly target your social network profiles.
"Over the last few years, deviantART has had a small but unfortunate stream of such abuse. Usually, it’s as easy as banning the offending members and moving on to more pressing problems, but recently something happened that caused us to re-evaluate how we handle spam issues."
My Progression as an Animator at DisneyA friend of mine is writing a book on animation fundamentals and asked me for a "paragraph or two" (which I can't do) on the subject of timing. I considered it and ended up writing about my progression of learning while a Disney animator in the traditional animation days. It was good therapy for me to really think this through and consider the order of things. I hope you enjoy it. "Like" or "fav" this so others will see it too. My Progression As A Disney Animator
by Tom Bancroft
Walt Disney is quoted as saying that it takes 10 years to make a great animator.
When I was first coming out of California Institute of the Arts and joining a Disney internship in 1988, hearing that quote was devastating. 10 years? That's FOREVER! I wanted to be a full-fledged Disney animator in TWO years! I rationalized that that was a way of thinking from the 40s and today, we move at a quicker pace, so-
