Project Sketch 'Em All UPDATEProject Sketch 'Em All3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Ok we're back, sorta. School is a terrible environment for art. And I have a lot of people who can vouch for that XD Anyway, the point is, I won't be working on it at 10 a day. Not for now, anyway. What is going to happen instead, is, I'll be drawing the remaining Pokemon first, then :IconAldenlite: will vector them. After that I'll color them all at one go, and you guys will see the complete collection. About time, I know. It's coming to the end of a school term, after which I have a week to rush up my homework, and of course, the project. Hopefully I can get it up by then.
Anyway due to the new sequence of actions, we'll actually need 3 progress bars to handle this.
Sketched: 644/725 (Reuniclus)
Vectored: 600/725 (Seismitoad)
[Star!][No Star] - 83%
Colored (And Complete): 560/725 (Serperior)

All kids that want to draw in a particular style that they find appealing.
It's a thing most people grow out of, as they A) learn that it does nothing to improve your own skills and B) you can't actually do anything with the "art" because it's still someone else's work.
I say most people.
:iconbatmanopolis: seems content to play photocopier AND is oblivious to copyright law, in that he's attempting to sell images that are clearly traces of VERY well-known artists.
I doubt he's the only one on DA doing this, and I have a special hatred for such vermin, so if you're aware of anyone else that is both copying other people's work AND trying to sell prints of the results without authorisation from the original artist - reply here with a link.
Tip of the Day: Dealing with StressStress is the root for many health problems. It's not necessary. Just do what you need to do. Stop stressing.Tip of the Day: Dealing with Stress3 years ago in Personal More Like This
In high pressure situations if I start stressing I will think what is the worst that could happen and how could I bounce back from that. Once I see that I would still be ok and be able to come back from that difficulty... then the stress disappears. Then I start imagining what would it feel like to be successful and that gets me excited to continue towards my goals.
Stress is something that everyone deals with in their own ways but if you don't have an effective way to deal with it, feel free to try my method.
Sword and dagger of Rai - Lamento TutorialSwiish!Sword and dagger of Rai - Lamento Tutorial3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Tonight I'm going to continue my daily prop tutorials with some basic sword and dagger making.
What do we need:
-Cardboard (thick one, around 3mm-4mm)
-Black fake leather (half meter)
-Some paper balls which you get from a crafts store
-Normal paper glue and hot glue
-One wooden stick (1cmx1cmx1m)
-Dremel or similar machine
-Cotton wool fabric
-Citadel paints, black, golden and silver.
And a few hours of free time!
Our mission is to make these two props, a sword and a dagger!
(right on the photo) Google Lamento - Rai if you wanna know more about the original.
We will start with drawing the patterns on a paper or straight on the cardboard sheet:
Then we can continue with cutting 'em out:
Tip for Today: When to give up?Never give up just because you don't think you're good enough. We've all had our doubts in life. Successful people do not give up easily. We must prepare and prepare again, try your very hardest and then about 50% more that you didn't know you had consistently, then keep going twice as long as you ever thought you would or could. There is no cosmic law that states artists must suffer many long years and demeaning day-jobs before a window of opportunity cracks open just enough to hop on through.
Fellow deviant Brian Kesinger is a case in point.
His first “day-job” in 1996—he was hired straight out of his senior year of high school—was drawing Tarzan for Disney.
Brian stayed at Disney and he considers every day there a part of his ongoing education as an artist. He most recent

The Serenely Powerful Art of `yuumei
In the top half of an hourglass, a polar bear and her cub perch perilously atop a wedge of melting ice, its dripping water becoming the "sand" that is inexorably drowning an urban couch potato figure in the hourglass's bottom chamber. The beautiful yet arresting digital painting is "Countdown" by yuumei and it is currently one of the most popular pieces on deviantART. It is "archetypal yuumei" in its perfectly balanced blending of a striking lyrically beautiful visual with an underlying urgent social or political message.
Her specialty is digital art in an anime style, but she often employs traditional watercolors and other elements. Her cause is saving and preserving what's left of the Earth's wildlife and its environment; she donates large portions of profits from her artworks to a host of wildlife and environmental organizations and urges all deviants and others to do the same. But what has really been her stand-out achievem

'Life Drawing 5' by algaegoblin
Do you know how to sketch human figures but do you want to refine your anatomy skills? Or do you not know anatomy at all and you are tired to trust your imagination? Did you notice you create disproportions in your drawings?
If you are aspiring artists and you already have your own style, you might as well believe you have no need of a guide, but you are wrong. Before exaggerating human proportions and begin to have your own style, you first have to know the basics.
This little guide is the result of an accurate research and 5 years of high school of art, and it's created for all those who want to learn something new or just make a useful review.
For those who have already studied art, my suggestion is to go to step 6 or trying to repeat all steps in Digital format.
First of all, if you want to learn faster you should draw using traditi
5 Year Plan*Because I'll be teaching in about a week at SCAD, I've been thinking a lot about what to tell the students. And I wrote it out so that I could solidify it in my head. This stuff is for younger artists mostly, so feel free to skip.5 Year Plan3 years ago in Personal More Like This
When I spend time with another comic artist, sometimes I'll ask, "What's your 5 year plan?" In other words, what steps is he taking in order to gain control over his career in order to move up the ladder? Usually I don't get much of an answer.
The reason I think many comic artists aren't forward-thinking has to do with the way our industry is set up. Whether by conscious design or through the neglect of its participants, younger freelancers get into a habit of complacency while hoping for a chance to suckle from the teet of a major publisher. Waiting around for a career doesn't promote the idea of freelancers taking active control of their OWN careers.
If I had to sum up the 5 Year Plan

I'm open for suggestions for what kind of tutorial/walk-through you'd like to see from me. If you're interested in anything, post your suggestions in the comments!

FOR ANYONE WHO'S READING THIS A BIT LATE
This all happened about five to six months ago. Obsessing about this would be just silly, on either side. If you managed to find your way here by now and would still like to know what happened, I'll give you a quick summary.
There USED to be a BHB journal explaining everything that happened , but DA recently banned a bunch of groups for whatever fucking reason. Anyways, it turned out that Rai (Nincianda) was Kas all along and wasn't actually 13 and had been banned from DA I believe at least 10 times already? Anyways, she was caught and flipped the fuck out. Aisha was caught tracing and left DA forever, but she still uses tumblr.
Nincianda ended up being someone who drew badly but found out people thought it was cute for a 12/13 year old. She also ran around telling people crazy stories about how she was abused and other shit, but when

I've seen comic how-to-get-started guides before, and they're all so ninny-nippled they word it like anyone can make a comic, wow, so magical and fun!
Wrong. Everyone and their pet dog has a "story" they want to "write" or "make a comic of." Face it, it ain't gonna happen for 99% of us. You gotta have self-discipline and stubbornness to get anything done. And you can't just avoid the stuff that sounds too hard. It's a package deal.
1. Having a character doesn't mean you've done anything. Maybe you've spent a year deciding on the perfect hairstyle and three years before that developing his complex personality, and technically, you spent the entirety of your high school career on him too, since he's a "redesign" of an old fancharacter--who cares! Making characters doesn't take years. In fact, you're hurting your story by keeping characters around for that lon
Character Design: An introductionCharacter Design: An introduction2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Arvalis-2012 by arvalis
What does 'Character Design' mean?
The character design is the process which comes after the characterisation and consists in defining the character through his/her physical appearance.
We need to consider a character as a little fictional creature, human or not, that aims to please its creator and the public as well.
While the basic characterization of this fictional creature (his tastes, his fears, his behaviors) may take a little mental effort, as it is a sort of list of emotions, facts and feelings that come and go in the life of a character, the process of visual realization of this creature may not be as simple. That's why many writers and characters creators prefer to rely on experienced hands.
Also many of the mental aspects of the character are not possible to gain by using 'static' visual medium. For 'static' I mean all the illustrations and drawings unable to tell a
