Sartorial Storytelling: Character at a Glance
Pulp Fiction by Rembrush
Masterful storytelling is about suspending disbelief.
One would think the most important element of a story being told is the events being depicted. Belief in these events, however, is a prerequisite to appreciation. Picture this: watching Anna Karenina in the theater, you’re riveted to the epic tale of doomed lovers. Your friend, a history professor with a fetish for details, laughs at random moments. After the movie, he pontificates at length on how unbelievable the movie was

I have never found a companion who was so companionable as solitude.
Henry David Thoreau
By :icontechgnotic: techgnotic
I I always thought of Thoreau’s comment as simply a word game — clever but ultimately false at its core. A Valentines Day without a Valentine means being alone and alone means being unhappy. It’s taken many years to finally understand the truth in Thoreau’s words. We are never so alone as when in the company of loving family and friends, our Valentine companion held tight in our arms – but knowing we are lost, unfulfilled in our dreams and visions, and untrusting in our own inner counsel. Now I hope to one day seek companions

All kids that want to draw in a particular style that they find appealing.
It's a thing most people grow out of, as they A) learn that it does nothing to improve your own skills and B) you can't actually do anything with the "art" because it's still someone else's work.
I say most people.
:iconbatmanopolis: seems content to play photocopier AND is oblivious to copyright law, in that he's attempting to sell images that are clearly traces of VERY well-known artists.
I doubt he's the only one on DA doing this, and I have a special hatred for such vermin, so if you're aware of anyone else that is both copying other people's work AND trying to sell prints of the results without authorisation from the original artist - reply here with a link.
Just so you all knowIt doesnt matter how great or (in)significant you may be in regards to your art or what you have accomplished artistically, or how many pageviews you have, or whatever criteria people are judged on this site, for every single Fav i get it literally warms my heart. The simple idea that you all validate my passion with your clicking of that button, or leaving a comment, or visiting my page is so humbling and i seriously thank God for it all, cause its amazing to me. Im a guy that just yearns to be better, and honestly to be cool in your collective minds in terms of my craft, and every time you guys do any of the previously mentioned gestures, it lets me know that i am well to do at my goal to grow artistically. Its a great feeling and i don't ever want a moment to pass without expressing that to you all, my peers and mentors, thank you sincerely, you all are a very important part to my amazing life.Just so you all know3 years ago in Personal More Like This

Tip of the Day: Dealing with StressStress is the root for many health problems. It's not necessary. Just do what you need to do. Stop stressing.Tip of the Day: Dealing with Stress4 years ago in Personal More Like This
In high pressure situations if I start stressing I will think what is the worst that could happen and how could I bounce back from that. Once I see that I would still be ok and be able to come back from that difficulty... then the stress disappears. Then I start imagining what would it feel like to be successful and that gets me excited to continue towards my goals.
Stress is something that everyone deals with in their own ways but if you don't have an effective way to deal with it, feel free to try my method.

Ok we're back, sorta. School is a terrible environment for art. And I have a lot of people who can vouch for that XD Anyway, the point is, I won't be working on it at 10 a day. Not for now, anyway. What is going to happen instead, is, I'll be drawing the remaining Pokemon first, then :IconAldenlite: will vector them. After that I'll color them all at one go, and you guys will see the complete collection. About time, I know. It's coming to the end of a school term, after which I have a week to rush up my homework, and of course, the project. Hopefully I can get it up by then.
Anyway due to the new sequence of actions, we'll actually need 3 progress bars to handle this.
Sketched: 644/725 (Reuniclus)
Vectored: 600/725 (Seismitoad)

I can honestly say that I grew up with this community and everyone here has taught me so much, and not just about art, but also on how to be a person. When I first got this account at the age of 12, I could have never imagined how much it has shaped my life and career. It sounds cliche but I probably wouldn't have became an artist if it hadn't been for everyone here on deviantART. Through all of the ups and downs in life, the community has always been the support and inspiration that kept me going.
I hope to give back as much as everyone has given me. I will continue to create more comics, tutorials and art in the future. I will never stop, and I have you all to thank for that.
So truly, thank you!

5 Year Plan*Because I'll be teaching in about a week at SCAD, I've been thinking a lot about what to tell the students. And I wrote it out so that I could solidify it in my head. This stuff is for younger artists mostly, so feel free to skip.5 Year Plan4 years ago in Personal More Like This
When I spend time with another comic artist, sometimes I'll ask, "What's your 5 year plan?" In other words, what steps is he taking in order to gain control over his career in order to move up the ladder? Usually I don't get much of an answer.
The reason I think many comic artists aren't forward-thinking has to do with the way our industry is set up. Whether by conscious design or through the neglect of its participants, younger freelancers get into a habit of complacency while hoping for a chance to suckle from the teet of a major publisher. Waiting around for a career doesn't promote the idea of freelancers taking active control of their OWN careers.
If I had to sum up the 5 Year Plan

FAN ART FRIDAY: Wocka! Wocka!
The Muppets are celebrating their 60th birthday this year!
Jim Henson created the group of puppets back in 1955 for his first TV show, called “Sam and Friends.” Henson said the term Muppet had emerged from a combination of “marionette” and “puppet.” Henson’s wildly imagined collection of characters has been delighting children and adults with their absurd antics and comedic sketches ever since.

Tutorials and techniques 2It's time to refresh the tutorial journal! Added some new ones and removed those which, after some time, I found a bit misleading.Tutorials and techniques 23 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Below you'll find a list of tutorials I personally think of as the best on dA. If I have any problems with painting something I usually take a look at one of those.
Is there anything you're having troubles with? Need help looking for a good tutorial? Or maybe you'd like to see a video walk-through of me painting something?
I'm open for suggestions for what kind of tutorial/walk-through you'd like to see from me. If you're interested in anything, post your suggestions in the comments!

Tonight I'm going to continue my daily prop tutorials with some basic sword and dagger making.
What do we need:

-Some paper balls which you get from a crafts store
-Normal paper glue and hot glue

Character Design: An introductionCharacter Design: An introduction3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Arvalis-2012 by arvalis
What does 'Character Design' mean?
The character design is the process which comes after the characterisation and consists in defining the character through his/her physical appearance.
We need to consider a character as a little fictional creature, human or not, that aims to please its creator and the public as well.
While the basic characterization of this fictional creature (his tastes, his fears, his behaviors) may take a little mental effort, as it is a sort of list of emotions, facts and feelings that come and go in the life of a character, the process of visual realization of this creature may not be as simple. That's why many writers and characters creators prefer to rely on experienced hands.
Also many of the mental aspects of the character are not possible to gain by using 'static' visual medium. For 'static' I mean all the illustrations and drawings unable to tell a

FOR ANYONE WHO'S READING THIS A BIT LATE
This all happened about five to six months ago. Obsessing about this would be just silly, on either side. If you managed to find your way here by now and would still like to know what happened, I'll give you a quick summary.
There USED to be a BHB journal explaining everything that happened , but DA recently banned a bunch of groups for whatever fucking reason. Anyways, it turned out that Rai (Nincianda) was Kas all along and wasn't actually 13 and had been banned from DA I believe at least 10 times already? Anyways, she was caught and flipped the fuck out. Aisha was caught tracing and left DA forever, but she still uses tumblr.
Nincianda ended up being someone who drew badly but found out people thought it was cute for a 12/13 year old. She also ran around telling people crazy stories about how she was abused and other shit, but when

I'm genuinely surprised at how well I've taken the year. Considering I was feeling down at the end of 2012 (my "year of picking up the pieces") it's nice that I've genuinely turned a new leaf for 2013.
I always thought thirteen was a lucky number for me.
I've been sparse on the journal updates for the last few years. deviantART as a platform to express my work hasn't really been as effective as I had hoped way back in 2005. Nevertheless I'm grateful to the place for introducing me to so many wonderful people, some of which have parted ways with me and gone on their own journeys, some of whom have stayed with me through the years, and one of whom was nice enough to allow me to woo her with what little charm I have.
The past few years have been a slow separation from the "old world" into the "new world", where essentially every bridge I've crossed has exploded in flame as I completed the crossing. What few tenuous threads remain are almost en

The moment I saw a Reno cosplayer I asked for a hug and a photo, and got what I wanted. I did manage to snap pics of a Demyx cosplayer and a girl in an adorable moogle kigurumi, but was too scared to approach a Cid Highwind cosplayer (in case he started yelling insults at me, haha) I actually had to remind the moogle girl to say 'kupo' (it bugs me when cosplayers aren't in character, so I have to encourage them, lol)
