Sharing some good adviceI received some very good advice from a friend last night, and I wanted to share it, as I'm sure some of you will find use in it just as I have.
I lost a friend yesterday, in a irredeemable way. That is to say, I have no intention of wanting to repair this friendship. I went through a kind of... slew of emotions about it at first, not really knowing if I was happy or angry about all that happened.
That evening, a friend of mine called. He's currently going through a very difficult custody case over his son, so we had a long heart-to-heart, and I ended up telling him what had happened in detail. What he said to me was the defining advice that sorted my head out.
Okay, so you're angry, or upset. Either one. Why, exactly, are you feeling like that?
Well, I guess because of wasted time, really.
Well, I wasted time being his friend, and wasted even more time trying to get my other friends, who never really got along with him
Sexuality Polls?WARNING FOR THE RAMBLINGS OF A TIRED, ILL PERSON!Sexuality Polls?3 years ago in Personal More Like This
So, you may wonder why I made the polls about sexuality.
From the age of 12 to 16, I was straight. I was always straight, and always going to be straight. I only dated guys, and that was the way it was stuck in my head.
Then at 16, things started changing. I was in a relationship, but I also found myself attracted to girls. In appearance, especially, I found females more appealing than males.
At around 18 or 19, my attraction to men started fading entirely, replaced purely by an interest in women.
At 20, I ended my straight relationship to be with Jenn. By this point, I only found women attractive.
Now I'm 24, and once again, I'm on the fence. I find both men and women attractive visually, but I'm not SEXUALLY attracted to any of them. The only person I honestly find sexually attractive is Jenn. She's female, so I suppose that labels me as a lesbian, as I am quite literally only attracted to females.
But what if, in another world, Jenn

Once homeless Miami man earns a Masters degree
After several arrests, drug addiction and being homeless, a Miami man has overcome the odds to graduate from FIU with a Master's degree in social work.
Out of thousands of graduates, only one -- 50-year-old Aaron Alvin Sr. -- got a standing ovation at Tuesday night's graduation ceremony.
"I wanted to make sure I was in a position to help people and so I went ahead and got my Master's," Alvin said. "I just continued to pursue something that was bigger and better and ended up here."
Alvin was arrested several times for drugs, grand theft auto, and domestic violence. He was also homeless for a time.
He said he never,
Four Years AgoFour years ago, something happened that completely changed the course of my life in a very real, very noticeable way.Four Years Ago3 years ago in Personal More Like This
On the 19th of January 2008, I hadn't really intended to do anything to make my life change so drastically. There was no plan, no preconception, nothing. Things just happened the way they happened, and I wouldn't change it for the world.
On the night of the 19th of January 2008, tealpirate and I started going out.
From that day on, my life was changed. I'd gone from a previously unhappy relationship to one I now was full of hope, excitement and expectation. My previous relationship had me feeling worn out, disillusioned and unhappy by three years or so into the relationship, yet with Jenn, I'm four years in, and still as crazily in love as the day I met her.
So, here's to you, Jenn, and the four fabulous years of life you have already gifted me with. I hope to continue them for as long as I live, and can only hope to bring you the same measure of happiness that you

Hating ArtI posted a poll recently, asking how many people dislike their own artwork. The results of the poll shows that sadly most people don't like their art either sometimes or all of the time.Hating Art4 years ago in Personal More Like This
I think this is a very sad thing, but it's something that I share with these people too. I know many of my artistic friends also dislike their art also. It seems to be a common thing among artists. I think the reason for this is that we know exactly what we're weak with and we don't know how to improve, or we compare our art with others, or we don't receive enough positive feedback, or we always remember the negative comments we get for our work and how they will always stay with us, no matter how many nice comments we get.
I really think negative comments towards our art (or anything in general) can mean much more to us than 10, 20, or even 100 positive comments do. They stand out and stick in our minds for much longer. They make us worry, and worry turns to doubt, and doubt turns to frustration and t
DA PopularityWarning.....wall of text ahead... :iconimdeadplz:DA Popularity4 years ago in Personal More Like This
Its something I find rather interesting and I know there are a lot of varying opinions on the subject. My thoughts on this where inspired by a recent poll and at the risk of people telling me once again that I am boasting or obsessed with views *eye roll* I will tell you my take on the whole thing.
DA is a diverse place where artists can come and share their creations but in the community there seems to be the misconception that talent/skill = popularity and if you're not the best then you don't deserve the exposure. Praise is given to those who make original work and those who do fanart are considered taking the cheap road to fame. But why is fanart more popular? simply because its more widely known and easier to relate to. Its that simple. If you see a fanart of your favourite character you are more likely to be interested opposed to someone's original character. When you draw a fanart you are drawing on the pre existing fa
A Brand New DeviantIDMorning Beta FolkA Brand New DeviantID4 years ago in Personal More Like This
Today we've got a shiny new deviantID widget for you to try out
As it stands, the info on your page that informs visitors who you are and what you're interested in, is split into two widgets. deviantID and Devious Info.
This is a little unnecessary, so we've created a brand new deviantID widget that merges both of them into one!
Not only that, but the new widget will even help you along and make it easier for you to fill in all your info
How do I try it?
Simply edit either your deviantID or Devious Info widget and you'll get a little notice asking if you want to upgrade to the new deviantID
Accept that you want to upgrade, and *poof* you'll have the new deviantID widget with all your old data copied over
I don't like it, I want my old one back
Firstly, if there's any way you think we could improve the new widget let us know!
But if you still want your old widgets back simply click the "Clear Module Data" button

Now that I'm a bit more settled into 2012, I'm getting my head around the year a little better. Despite my assurances to myself each year that I'll "take it easier next year", I've once again gone completely against that... and it's only January!
To give you an idea of my year, here's an image of my "in a year" calendar. The dates I already have plans (either definite or yet to confirm) are coloured with a green star:
Already, things are starting to fill up... and it's only going to get fuller! At least it keeps things interesting
So! As for things happening soon, in February I'll be attending the SFX Weekender in North Wales. This is by far the BEST convention I have ever been to, and I've only been once! With luck, this years event will match or outstrip 2011! All the accommodation passes have now sold out, but if you do want to check it out for a day, or stay in off-site accommodation, th

The Value of Good WritingWe all typo. The Value of Good Writing3 years ago in Personal More Like This
There are all words we don't know how to spell, or have a habit of spelling incorrectly.
We all create grammatical errors.
These things I accept. I like to think I'm quite a good writer, but I still fall into these mistakes as well. However, I try to keep all my written pieces and correspondences as well-written as possible. Why?
Because when I am confronted with someone elses writing, poorly written, with atrocious spelling, non-existent grammar and dreaded 'txt tlk', I instantly lose the desire to read it.
There - Their - They're
Your - You're
Accept - Except
Things like that also irritate me.
If you've ever written me a message or note in terrible use of English, and haven't received a reply... I'm probably ignoring it.
It's a pet peeve. Whether it's a justified peeve or not, I have no idea, but it's something that has always irritated me. I was part of the generation that didn't have mobile phones as a kid. People first started getting cell phones for personal use (bef

So! The ball is really rolling for Metrocon now. I'm starting to get panel times together provisionally, as well as our panel content.
For those of you attending Metrocon... I always find that I rush to the evening parties, and never end up staying long. So, I was considering putting in one "late" panel at 9-10pm on Friday night, perhaps to screen videos that we haven't shown before, and generally have a bit of a laugh. Would people be interested in this, or do you prefer to go to the parties?
Let me know!
-------The 'Gay Panic' Defence-------
This was suggested as a discussion topic by VanillaAutumn, and I felt it was one that could do with being publicised.
A loophole in Queensland [Australia] law allows people accused of murder to defend themselves in court by claiming "gay panic" -- that is, if someone who they think is gay "comes onto" th
About MeI had a note from someone that I read today who asked about getting to know me as a person better. I thought this was a pretty good idea! I think a lot of people see me as just a cosplayer, just a youtuber, or even just as the characters I cosplay and act as. Obviously, this is far from the truth. Cosplay is just a small part of my life compared to everything else I've done and wish to do.About Me4 years ago in Personal More Like This

Personal LibraryQuite a few times I've been asked what books I like and could I suggest any good reads. Well, here is a journal with some of my top authors and books for you to consider.Personal Library3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I will start by saying that my two favourite genres are historical and gothic horror. I do deleve into fantasy, but generally I will only read a fantasy novel if it's not set in modern times.
I also tend towards first person and will not read a book if the protagonist is female. So brace yourselves!
SALAMANDER by Thomas Wharton.
This is my favourite book and for many good reasons. It is set in an alternative Victorian era, and follows the life of a book maker called Nicolas as he travels around the world trying to make an infinite book. (A book with no end and no start).
The narrative is overly colourful and the author takes full advantage of the readers senses, especially that of smell and sight. The short narratives play like a cinematic reel in the mind.
Overall, it's a book about books which contains some very hea

If you click a link that directs you through the deviantART "There Be Monsters Out There" outgoing link page and you unexpectedly return back to deviantART while logged out, check the URL of where you are before entering any of your details.
The proper URL for the actual deviantART login page is: deviantart.com/users/login. (Note that there is nothing between "deviantart" and "com" except for a "dot.")
If you find yourself unexpectedly logged out after clicking an offsite link, immediately check the URL to see if anything extra has been added -- this would indicate that you are in fact on a third-party website masquerading as deviantART. On The Subject of LabelsOne of the recurring comments given in my previous journal was "Why do we need to label ourselves at all?", or words to that effect. There are many of you who believe NO-ONE needs a label. On The Subject of Labels3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I both agree and disagree.
I agree, because I think you're right that we don't need to define to ourselves what we are by putting a label on it. I shouldn't say to myself "I'm gay. Therefore, I only am attracted to women." I think that if, in your head, you have a defined, labelled view of what you are, you start conforming yourself around that label. I'm sure many of you have heard stories of men and women who came out, then later admitted to feeling pressured into staying gay because they'd defined themselves as such to so many people. Conforming yourself around a social definition like that cannot be healthy.
But at the same time, I disagree against the idea that we don't need labels in this world at all. We do need them... we just don't need to place extensive mean
