I have always loved the comic book covers by Devilpig [link] - especially his 100 Bullets Covers. They are consistently brilliant. I thought the Inception subject matter was begging for the Dave Johnson treatment, so here's my take...
I'm not especially fond of my use of color, and the likeness might not work very well, but I'm satisfied with it overall.
Plaguebearer's appearance through the Death Rift marks the start of the end. The colossus is an entire invasion horde all on its own. The undead Riftspawn writing inside his chest and stomach cavity may be weak, but they are endless in number. Plaguebearer absorbs the death around him and creates more living dead. The only way to stop the invasion is to kill the source: the towering death colossus himself.
This is probably the most detailed I've gone into a piece. Each one of the zombies inside the colossus's chest and stomach was painstakingly painted in. Full view for details!
[23:27:31] Kurosawa Yamato > this ship looks like it's falling apart... [23:27:45] Kurosawa Yamato > success! it is officially minmatar ^^
well, there is a lot I would like to say about this project, but first things first, about the concept:
When I worked on my first concepts, I noticed that it was very difficult to get into Eve's ship art right away. The samples don't do the ships justice, so I started playing the game to see how they are from all angles. A month later and juggling with my day work I've came up with the Superstorm hull. My inclination for this hull, is that it would be a ship for long deep space exploration (very much like a Marauder). The contest rules do not specify its function, so, this hull can be used for about anything Battleship-related.
I also wanted to include a great feature of many Eve ships, that's a face, you can see clearly on some Minmatar ships and you can see it in Superstorm too. Another thing is that some people pointed out that it's too boxy but I wanted to continue the Thrasher>Cyclone design legacy, while not making Superstorm an oversized Cyclone.
As for the execution. I worked two years in civil engineering drafting and while that belongs to the past, I wanted it to look like a professional engineering draft and not just a collection of small lines. The choice between 2D and 3D was a though one, but I decided to go with 2D because it is still a concept work and not a direct execution to the game engine.

My entry for the FIAT imagination contest *because of the size to view the full image need to click it twice*
The concept for the design was to create a unique and interesting illustration that was synonymous with the image of FIAT. I wanted to create something youthful and energetic with a sense of freedom. But I also really wanted to pay homage to FIAT as well. Accompanying the two characters and "cat" are a host of FIAT automobiles from the modern iconic 500, 500 cabrio and 500L, also the performance oriented Abarth, even the less common FIAT Panda. I also illustrated vehicles from the company's history like the classic 500 (my personal favorite) created in 1957 and the FIAT 600 Multipla created in 1956 to the FIAT 126 introduced in 1972. The "festival" is held in mid air above a city with buildings with red tile roofing reminiscent of the architecture of Northern Italy the home country of FIAT.
This was a pretty challenging project, and I really enjoyed it. Very grateful to FIAT and Deviantart for the opportunity. ^_^
Personal work after a long time, and an entry for Outcast Odyssey Contest.
