A laugh for your dayOkay, all of the Nightwish shenanigans have finally gotten to my head and into my dreams. So my dream last night went a little something like this:A laugh for your day3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Anette got home sometime in the wee hours of the morning and walked into her kitchen. A Christmas fairy (yes, I realize it's October) pops out of her refrigerator. The fairy is all blonde and sparkly and adorable and scares the crap out of poor Nettie. She asks "What are you doing here?" and the fairy replies "You're pregnant again." Anette's all like lolwhut and the fairy says it's not Johan's baby so Anette's like WAT. Then she informs her that it's Tuomas', and Anette kindly explains why there is no way in hell that that would be possible. The fairy says "Oh, but it is!" and grabs Anette and they leave her house. They just kinda magically poof into Finland and find Tuomas. He is of course very confused at the sudden arrival of Nettan and this tiny sparkly thing that is trying to convince him that he is the father of Anette's child. After

Tolkien Illustrator’s First Aid Kit: Elves
Tolkien’s texts are notable for their abundance of characters, many of them mentioned perhaps only once, other playing very important parts in the stories. However, it is often very difficult to find any description of how those characters look, and this is what we, artists and illustrators, are usually most concerned with.
So here it is – Tolkien Illustrator’s First Aid Kit – a list of all those characters, whose physical appearance is mentioned in the texts, including The Silmarillion and The History of the Middle-earth.
To start with, the Elves. As we know, during the march from Cuiviënén t
How to make a viking dressI used to be a part of one history reenactment group some time ago. Such groups basically reconstruct elements of daily life of people from a selected time period; my group was interested in early Middle Ages, from the 8th to the 11th century, from the Eastern and Northern Europe. Personally, I used to reconstruct a viking woman from today's Sweden areas. Most of you will be shocked, but vikings were not half-naked barbarians with horned helmets. They had no horned helmets. Really. How to make a viking dress2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Anyway, my favourite part of reenactment has always been all the suit making. Buing materials, planning, cutting, sewing (hand sewing!), embroidering. Then, wearing. Generally, viking clothes are very easy to make, though I admit that the materials aren't the cheapest, if you want to make it as much accurate historically as you can.
Our goal: a simple dress, no emboirdery. This is actually my first viking dress I've ever made.
I've prepared a simple tut

Hello, I'm RedPassion and some of you know me under the nickname Clarice. I'm 29 at the moment (and will stay that for the next 5 years ) and I'm from Germany (for more details please read my profile, you can get more informations there in English, German and French)
2. Since when you used to draw?
I can't remember clearly... I think it was about 1999 or 2000? I started to draw portraits at first and then it went over to animes and cartoons.
3. Are you good in your opinion?
Not at all. Cause the artist is not the right person to judge this, others should decide that for themeselves. And you will always find a person, that is better than you so no matter if you are good or bad, you should always try to keep up and become better.
4. With which medias you work?
For digital drawings I normally use Photoshop 7.0 + GT (graphic tablet), except of that pencil and watercolors
5. Do you draw something for others?

Sipping tea with your Muse Only by fostering a facility with the vocabulary of your artistic medium of choice, can you begin to really free yourself to be open to being creative with it.Sipping tea with your Muse1 year ago in Personal More Like This
The size of that vocabulary is another matter, and that’s about growth, improvement and development. These are important as well, and intricately linked to creativity, in parallel (more on that in a future article). But first let’s talk simply about the genesis aspect of art.
Remember when you were in high school, doodling in the margins of your notebooks? Ballpoint pen and edges of blue-lined notebooks, with half an ear listening to the lesson of the day? There was a familiarity in that setting, and ease that you moved through when you sketched these throwaway doodles. Every once in a while you’d accidentally make one that you’d really like, and you’d save that scrap of paper with notes on American History melding into the lines of a drawing of your D&D charac

1. Hello! For the beginning, could you tell us something about yourself?
well, I'm afraid I'm not very interesting. Most of the time I just sit at home next to the radiator, dressed in too many sweaters, sip cocoa and read or draw (but when I have more free time I greatly enjoy cooking/baking and sewing) I'm nineteen and currently study animation on university so I totally don't have as much time to draw my own things as I would like. I live in tiny, unknow village under Beskydy mountains with my mum,

If you're here and reading this, you probably don't need me to tell you the purpose of this journal - but, well, I will anyway. It's contest time! I've been wanting to hold a writing competition for deviantART's literature community for some time, but something always gets in the way. No longer! There's something about mythology and legend that has always been fascinating to me, and the same goes for any literature that is inspired by these tales.
I'm sure you can see where this is going!

Big, marvellous, elaborate, finished paintings and drawings you can see in various stunning galleries on dA and outside dA, while they require time and can occupy artist's workspace even for months, in a lot of cases make a small percentage of created pictures lying around the creator's desk. Sketches aren't just noted concepts or a stage in preparing an artwork - a couple of sketches a day can be the most influential source of improving your skills.
You have probably been through this more than once - far from your room, you got struck with a brilliant idea. In diffrent circumstances you'd most likely rush to transfer it onto paper or canvas, but well, that might be not so easy in a classroom or on a bus. It can be difficult even if you're home - how about more than one idea at once? Using a sketchbook as a notepad for any concepts is by far

Where did all the good men gone?
Thank you, feminists (specifically Anita Sarkeensian), for complaining about female roles in videos games, especially the damsel in distress, that really didn't bothered anyone, EXCEPT for feminists who think men was secretly oppressing them by using the fun little technology called video games. Also thank you for failing to realize that there's already serious females characters like Anya (Gears Of Wars), Bernadette (Gears of Wars), Samantha (Gears of Wars), Sonia (Resident Evil), Lara Croft(Tomb Raider) and so many others. Oh and thank you Anita for lying in the name of feminism--->

Helping peopleHumans are a social animal, and a little like bees. But we are also like egoistic lions, and we have our own self-interests (and it is not something BAD, having self-interest is NORMAL, even if Moralism sees it as sinful).Helping people1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Here, some tips for helping people in a logical, non-moralistic way
1) Make sure that the person ACTUALLY tried before asking for help, or actually does NOT know how to do it.
2) Make sure you are not creating dependence, i.e. that person will come back for more help over and over
3) Try to teach people to fish instead of giving them fish
4) Respect your own self. Do not help people that are ungrateful, helping them will end up biting you in the ass. They need to learn to appreciate your help. Helping them does not make you a morally superior person, it makes you a stupid person
5) Do not help to become an "angel" or receive some "heavenly" reward. If you help, help because it is a logical thing to do for humans insofa

Hard-working or lazy, reliable or capricious?
A new contest for the new year: have you ever thought of portraying your creative vein as an actual being? Would it be a handsome woman or a hard to tame bird? Or a sloth (I hope a lively one, at least)? Does it walk around with you or stays and waits in some certain places? Or catches up with you all of a sudden no matter the location?
The task is to describe or depict that part of your mind responsible for all the brilliant ideas standing behind your creations. Or would it be a self-portrait of some kind?
the 7th of March 2014the 9th of March, 3:00 pm GMT
Limit of submissions: one piece per member.
The entry must be prepared for the contest precisely.
You must be a member to participate.
