Desperately trying to free the man.
He sets an example for his children,
Doing what he knows is right.
He can hit anything he aims at,
But unfair advantage lays down the gun.
Color of skin is no condition to him,
Only color of heart.
He is courteous and honest,
Never overstepping his boundaries.
He chops wood and hauls water
For a poor, lonely girl.
He is brought to the bar,
Accused of a crime that never occurred.
He is shot seventeen times,
Escaping a golden life burned black.
He cowers behind closed doors,
Hidden from the public eye.
He is slowly dying,
Unknown to the world.
The children are terribly fascinated by him,
And he loves them dearly.
His children are in mortal peril,
And he risks everything to save them.
All they do is help others,
And they ask nothing in return.
It's a sin to kill a mockingbird.
