Far above the sandrock earth of Valion IV, an unfamiliar shape to the urban planet rocketed through the thick, noxious clouds of pollution caused by hundreds upon hundreds of years of manufacturing that saturated the sky, making the foreign object almost invisible to the population below. It was the quiet period on board the Darwin II. Pierce lay on his bunk, looking at the photos of his wife and family blue-tacked to the bulkhead. Two weeks, he thought, and they'd start the two month journey home.
