Updates for April 1stLooks like my April Fools joke went over pretty well. I was quite surprised to see the response, honestly! Was it the most original prank in the books? Absolutely not, but considering that I usually ignore April Fools Day and that people STILL believed it, I think it's alright. Sometimes the oldest jokes are the best and it's not like this was a contest trying to outdo everyone around me. Just having some fun for a change, which is something I need to do more often.Updates for April 1st3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Also, it shows how many people actually followed the link. Anyone who read the journal and followed the link to the trolololo song would've known it was a joke. But it seems a LOT of people didn't bother doing that, hehe.
Speaking of April Fools though, did you know that it was 4 years ago today that I began the Alex Ze Pirate web series? April 1st, 2008 was the day I began posting short one page gags involving my pirate characters on SheezyArt. It's kinda hard to believe it's only been 4 years as so much has happened since
Mini ReviewsLately there've been a number of TV shows and other nerdy things I've been meaning to get into but just haven't had the time. Today I'm just gonna give my first impressions of a couple of them. Keep in mind that aside from relative familiarity, I know pretty much nothing about all these series, so if I sound harsh I hope you can forgive me!Mini Reviews3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Game of Thrones
I've been hearing so much about this series and how amazing it is. I know that the actor Peter Dinklage has received a number of awards for his performance. I also know that HBO tends to do really good series from time to time. So I had expectations that this was also going to be good.
First 5 minutes. Yeah it was good. Everything after that? Eehh...
Granted now, I've only seen the first episode, but honestly the first episode should really HOOK you into the series. Start off with a bang to get you psyched then spend the rest of the series building up the characters and making us care about them, ending with a great climax mak
MCBA Spring Con 2012 AftermathWhile MCBA was lots of fun like it always it, this year it seemed a bit quieter for some reason. Business was quite good on Saturday, but on Sunday it died off quite a bit.MCBA Spring Con 2012 Aftermath3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I got to meet a lot of fans from DA, and one group in particular (dressed as homestuck trolls no less) even gave me a tiny fluttershy figurine! That was really cute, thank you!
I had a lot of sketch cards on Saturday, ending with me running out of paper. When I came back on Sunday I brought extra just in case, but found I didn't need it. Sunday was pretty dead and while I got a few orders early in the day, I didn't sell more than that.
Pretty cool that this year they had the ECTO1 from Ghostbusters there. In the past they've always had the Batman mobiles or the Delorean from Back to the Future, so being able to see the ECTO1 was a nice change of pace.
I talked with a guy for almost 2 hours on animation history and Disney, which was a lot of fun. I also go to give some advice on how to get rid of those "artifacts" th
Moving on... CONTEST! WOO!That last journal was a doozie wasn't it? Let's do something fun instead and get our minds out of the muddy waters of art definitions for a minute.Moving on... CONTEST! WOO!3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I've been asked to do a mini drawing competition. Kinda like what :iconhumon: just did. So here's a really basic run down of the rules in no way copied and pasted from her journal with minor alterations: j/k
The Drawing Competition:
1. Draw any of TomPreston's characters (SYAC, Alex Ze Pirate, or any smaller groups) in London.
2. Upload the image to your dA gallery.
3. Comment on this journal (or the main Fresh Epics comment box) with a link to your image.
- I'll then +Fav/add to collection it.
- I'll look though the collection and pick the winners.
Winners will get Alex Ze Pirate book 2 and SYAC Book 1, plus posters! YAY!
It should go without saying but parodies, trolling, hate art, or explicit sexual stuff = instant disqualifying. I mean, that should be a given but it needs to be said I suppose.
Deadline: A week from today: May 16th.
The Avengers - ReviewHonestly I don't have much to say other than it's just really awesome. You don't need to have seen Captain America, Iron Man 1 and 2, The Hulk, or Thor to understand what's going on, but it most certainly does help. The Avengers - Review3 years ago in Personal More Like This
The Avengers is probably one of the most epic movies I have seen since the Lord of the Rings trilogy and Harry Potter. It's up there. It's not perfect, and some moments seem to drag on a bit (mostly around the middle), but every key moment is accentuated properly, every line delivered in such a way that you don't miss out on what's going on, every action scene composed in a way you aren't confused, and overall the whole thing is just a joy to watch.
What's really fun about this movie is that they don't hold back. Ever. Everything you want to see in a movie about the Avengers is pretty much up on this screen. You wanna see Thor and Iron Man duke it out? You got it! You wanna see an army of aliens attacking a city? Got it. You wanna see Tony Stark deliver hilarious banter aga

So a rumor that was leaked, and then possibly confirmed, is that not only is MLP:FiM getting a movie (a direct to video movie I'd wager), but a spin off series as well. This spin off series will be called Equestria Girls and be about the Mane 6 crew being transported to Earth and transformed into humanized versions of themselves.
And bronies are throwing a tantrum, yet again.
I've kinda given up trying to understand brony mentalities these days. You adore the crap out of humanized MLP fanart, but you don't support the idea of it being somehow "official"? I mean, I get that you enjoy the show because you're a niche and unexpected demographic Hasbro should be mining for oodles of cash, but at the same time you all do recognize that the show IS made for little girls and kids in mind, right? It's a giant toy line advertisement through and through, so why are people freaking out over the idea that they introduce characters or scenarios to sell toys? Did none of

Last words of the yearThank you all for being the closest friends I could ask for. Thank you for making me feel better whenever I felt depressed, for being there to calm me down when I got angry, for making me feel like a person and not chopped liver, and for being here with me to welcome the new year and say goodbye to the old year. I couldn't have gotten to where I am today without your support and love and trust. I thank you guys for being you throughout 2014, even if there are some people we lost along the way that won't be joining us during the end of 2014. I feel confident that 2015 is gonna be better than 2014 was. Once again, thank you to:Last words of the year5 months ago in Personal More Like This

If you want power, you need to turn the outlets on, and to do that you gotta push a switch down.
TV has far fewer commercial breaks.
English police are super nice (watched the British version of "COPS" and was amazed at how polite everyone was, even the criminals).
The second floor is called the first.
French Fries are called Chips.
Chips are called Crisps.
American-centric music doesn't stay here (Heard "Sweet Home Alabama" quite a number of times over there).
You are not expected to tip people (this was very hard for me to accept and I always felt guilty not tipping our waiters).
You are not expected to clean up your messes in food courts or.. anywhere actually (Janitors come by and clean up for you. Has something to do with security and getting rid of bomb threats).
Elevators are called Lifts.
Air conditioning seems scarce.

Back? Not quite...About my breakBack? Not quite...2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Despite the increase in activity from me here on DA recently, I'm not entirely "back" in the normal sense of the word. I'm kinda just tip-toeing the waters to see if things have calmed a bit. I'm still trying to get through my issues, with mixed success, and a two month leave of absence isn't going to undo years of stress buildup and stubbornness. But I'm working on it, slowly but surely. You might see some new work here or there, but I don't think I'm ready yet to jump back into doing any of my longer narratives.
In fact, judging by my recent comic's reception, I probably am not ready for a full fledged return just yet...
Kotaku Sunday Comics WIN!

"You somehow magically gained the ability to draw near-photorealistic buildings overnight and you choose to use this amazing newfound skill to draw a building in the background? Get serious dude."
This is a redrawing of Big Ben (using a different reference photo BTW) to show that I am actually capable of drawing architecture just fine. I only used the computer for the poster version because I wanted more control over it.
I'm gonna be leaving Big Ben the way it is in the poster. There's nothing to "own up to" about it other than saying "sorry I used such a recognizable image source of a popular and well known landmark as reference." I did not trace.
Curious that so many of the people crying "copyright infringement" over me using reference are also the same people who take my comics and make "parodies" of them by cutting, rearranging, and re-uploading th
Big BenSo in case you haven't heard yet, some kind YouTuber found the reference image I used to draw Big Ben for my London poster, warped and skewed it to match the angle, and made a rather catchy song proclaiming how I traced it while the image flickers back and fourth between the photo and my drawing as "proof."Big Ben3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I know I have haters out there, and some of them seem to have unhealthy obsessions with finding fault in everything I do, but this is taking it pretty far, don't you think? Even if it were traced, Big Ben is such an iconic image that you'd be hard pressed to find a different angle to work with, especially since it's box-shaped and all sides look the same.
I should probably point out that if you see pixelation in the tower, it's because the whole image has been reduced and saved at only 60% normal JPEG compression. It's a trick used to keep the image good enough to be seen but bad enough to be printed, thus encouraging sales on the larger non pixelated poster.

On the day of your birth, you were likely surrounded by those who loved you, who would lead you through the rough first scary years of life, and who would stand by as you grew into a capable person. As time passed, others may have drifted into your life, and even if you didn't know it, they also nurtured and cared for you in much the same way, helping to shape the person you would become.
When a community like deviantART is born, the same common thread binds its originators and founding members together. Over the years, more and more creative beings drift into its life and strengthen its core every single day, resulting in an exponentially inspirational powerhouse for the sheer fact that they've become a part of it. That nurturing spirit, that inherent support system, that caring community inspires deviantART to grow, and it comes from inside each and every one of you.
MCM London ExpoIf you haven't seen anything from me in a while, it's because I'm in London and don't have ready access to the interwebs.MCM London Expo3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Tomorrow is the MCM London Expo. I'll be located at table AB8 in the dealers room NOT in artist alley. So don't look for me in the artist alley because I won't be there! Lol.
Humon and Vitaly have been Trolling each other, which you've probably seen a bit of if you watch either of them. Silly guys...
The convention starts tomorrow and goes through the weekend! Hope to see you there!
PS: I was trying to pick a winner to the contest before I left but ran out of time. Now I won't be able to pick a winner till I get back from London, so sorry about that.
EDIT: I've been informed that we do indeed have an artist alley table... So... I haven't got the foggiest idea where I will be located now. Best to just look all over then! Sorry..
Posters, Conventions, CD, and Dr.And I'm back! Well... I guess "technically" I wasn't really gone. But I have been taking a bit of a break from the internet aside from posting updates. It was quite refreshing and hopefully it's been long enough to recharge my batteries because I have a LOT to do!Posters, Conventions, CD, and Dr.3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Conventions are creeping up on me. In about a month's time I'm going to be in London and that's got me starting to freak out. I've gotta get enough stock pooled together, find out how to ship it to London without it costing an arm and a leg, and work out my itinerary. I'll also be at the MCBA Spring Con the week before in Minneapolis/St.Paul and then immediately after the London con I'll be in Iowa for QC-Anime Zing! Gyaah!
For the London convention all of us Fresh Epics artists are writing stories for an anthology book. We're all going to be featured in it. Me, Humon, Stupid Fox, Romantically Apocalyptic, Boggart, Acero Tiburon, etc. I'm proud to say I've finally gotten my pages in! Yay!
Along with my long list of "to-do" th
