Give Life to the BackgroundsGive Life to the Backgrounds10 years ago in Philosophical More Like This
"Give background personality, give it life."
Think about WHY in the world do you draw backgrounds?
Are you thinking you need to do better in drawing backgrounds because your art needs it to look better?
How do you treat backgrounds in your work? What is actually "backgrounds" to you??
Background by defination in art simply means, the picture plain in the back of the main subject.
So background can be "white" or "blank" that's still background in considering of the art elements.
But what "background" means to most of us, is "scenery" and "enviromental" drawing/painting behind the main "character" or "subject" on the picture.
There is a thing about the background's relationship and the characters (The main subject)....
when we are making a single image, don't we need to make sure the viewer see the "focal" point of the image which is the most interesting part?
Sometimes the background itself can be point blank, to help the focal point to stand out and retreat, that's still

A post edited from the replies I gave to 3 artists who suffered from DA community:
I have said this... I will say it again. To famous artists, infamous artists, unfamous artists.....
My advice is... the WHOLE WORLD will be like DA... whether internet or not... if your art is recongized, people would try to benefit from it, rip it, destroy it, flame it. The history itself has said it again and again.
On DA, it's a community that is well set up, not perfect, but it's well done compare to alot of places:
As well as art thief, there are people who look out for you as well... as well as there are flamers, there are people who truely support you, as well as people of jealousy, there are people who appreciate.
You will find out, everywhere it's about the same... DA is only a glimsp at how the world is... it's best you deal with those things with a ready heart, and train yourself to be able to handle "People" and view the handling of these issues as a "capacity" and "skill" inst

“Amber chooses you to play next. You look kind of confused, so this should be really fun.” With a wide, adorable smile, she grabbed your hand and snapped you out of your daze. “Come on already. We can't wait all day you know.”
“Oh, it's my turn? I didn't even know anyone was talking to me.” A little embarrassed by your failure to pay attention, you stood to your feet and walked over to get an item. “I choose this butter knife to be my item. And with it, I claim the owner to be my partner for the next seven minutes.” You held the knife up proudly, then tilted your head in confusion. “So, whose item is this anyway?”
“I thought you'd never ask.” Doug stood up, stretched and made his way to you. He was smiling, but you couldn't really tell if he was actually happy to be playing or if he was just trying to be friendly. “What are we waiting for? You didn't space out again already, did you?

It had a roller coaster and a swimming pool and a big bedroom full of toys… As I grew older, I decided that I did not want that, and dreamed of something simpler. My parents bought our cabin when I was eight, and I hated it. It was musty, moldy, ugly and ancient, and you had to plug your nose while you were inside. My parents slowly began to make improvements: a wood floor, a light golden brown log siding, a dark green shingled roof, big rocks along the shore… It's a little place, with a rustic kitchen that smells like pancakes in the morning and a main room with enormous picture windows. You cook your food in old little pots and pans, and you can hear the birds singing outside the windows.
The best part of the cabin is the yard. It's surrounded by trees, mostly deciduous, and you can walk barefoot in the hardy grass.

Crying was not the best way to meet a guy. But what could you do since someone robbed you of your purse and ran off with it. Having a paycheck you were going to deposit, pictures of family and friends, gift cards and your makeup in there just taken away like that.
You luckily had your phone in your coat pocket. You dialed 911 on your cell phone and talked to the person on the other line about what happened and where you were. You stood in front of a small cafe shop your aunt owned.
The police officer came walking towards you with a stern look on his face. Looking at his face like you were studying for a big test you saw he had big shining sky blue eyes behind glasses. His blond hair also made him stand out more. His uniform seemed to piece together as it was blue but not as blue as his eyes. Blushing at the thoughts you tried to collect the right thoughts to talk to the hot officer about.
“Hello miss! Im alfred F. Jones! I got a call about a purse snatcher?” His voi

A short lesson on the ins and outs of composition in the visual arts.
Composition, as defined by Wikipedia, "is the placement or arrangement of visual elements or ingredients in a work of art, as distinct from the subject of a work." In short, composition refers to the arrangement of elements within a piece of art that follow a certain set of artistic rules/guidelines. These rules and guidelines are based on what the human eye finds attractive, and hundreds of years of art have proven that although a wonderful piece of art can exist without following these rules, pieces that do follow them are more likely to be visually appealing or stimulating to a wider variety of people.
The rules are based on a series of artistic principles, which I will outline below.
ELEMENTS OF DESIGN
The elements of design are a series of elements that make up the vocabulary of the visual arts. They are your bread and butter, and are one thing

I fill this page with good quality writing?"
Part One: Initial Idea
Why is it that finding an idea can be so hard?
Why does everyone else have the power to come up with amazing ideas, and what
are you left with? Nothing... Well, to you, that may be what it seems
like, but I'm sure if you dig deep enough, you don't really lack in
ideas, you just have a hard time bringing them to the surface. Here
are some ways to bring out that buried inspiration:
Base some ideas on real life events
Its probably the easiest way to write, you may have experienced what you are
writing about, this helps the mind describe the situation, it also makes it
sound much more realistic.
Use inspiration from other pieces of writing

The author made some good points, and I saw it through tiggerfactory, My good pal here. I feel the original author's response is still more to the emotional side, so I will add to the backbone. The logic of the popular contest issue.
OK... So I understand that most people probably didn't get into the psychology of men, so they can feel unfair. (normal conception kids will have, actually.)
To be honest I feel regretful for the artists who simply couldn't get great attention (if not no attention at all) for their art, simply because their art is a bit harder to understand.
It doesn't mean they don't interact, or they don't post often, they do. But there's no way for them to beat the easier to understand, and the popular subjects.
Even if all art start out being "fair" sort of speak, every category will advance differently, every audience is different.
For example, if the majority on DA are teenagers and young adult

Even though we only have two classes
I love talking to you
You don't seem to mind about what I'm talking about
However I'll try to becareful about what I say
I'm human and I will make a mistake
I had a day dream today
Like right after school
I imagined you and I at a dance
We were dancing to a slow song
I kept looking into your eyes
You kept looking into mine
Then suddenly we kissed
Kissed while we were dancing
You had a smile on your face
I was frozen like my world stopped again
Your soft hips felt shaking
I started shaking a little bit
We kissed more and more
I feel like I'm in Heaven
Feeling your soft and warm lips on my cold lips
Fire and Ice finally meet
I bring you in closer to me
I hold you closer and tighter
Tight enough for you to feel me closer
But of course enough for you to still breath
I felt your soft skin
You felt my strong arms
I touched your cute cheeks as we kissed
You touched my bold shoulders

A: If you post it on DrunkDuck or Deviantart it's count as published, digitally, but it doesn't mean your publisher on digital world is obligated to pay you for it, if you publish on your own site, maybe you can earn ad money from it.
For book publishing, there are two major ways to go: go submit to a publisher, or be your own publisher. Publishing is both easy and hard, depending on the scale of publishing you want to go for.
-Nation/world wide book publishing is what most refer to as "being published" (It means being "commercially published")
There's Commercial publishing, and Self publishing, below I will talk to you about both worlds.
Just know each have their ups, and downs, either are perfect, choose what you like most for yourself.

How to Design complex characters using core beliefHow to Design complex characters using core belief9 years ago in Editorial More Like This
A character is basically formed by three things: Personality, Beliefs, History
After designing the character's story and personality, what will help them stay in character is designing the layers of their core beliefs.
The key thing is, these core beliefs are never, ever spoken by the character themselves. They just behave in this belief like it's normal and not even think it's there.
Of course you can still choose to have them say it, they will just be a simpler open book type character. Or say it partially hiding its true statement, you can also use a character's core belief statement to make it a story statement if you see fit.
A core belief system is the thing that will make the character see the world around them differently from one another; thus making their judgement and decisions differently as well.
Everyone (real people) operates this way. Core belief can be formed as early as babies. So watch out of the kids.
After the first layer of core belief is formed, the
