Yuanjiajie Scenic Area, Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, Wulingyuan Scenic and Historic Interest Area, Hunan, China
A place of soaring towers and vast skies. This is the place where Avatar was filmed - the real-life Pandora.
Located in the remote mountains of southern China, Zhangjiajie was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992. Its karst sandstone peaks were carved from an ancient seabed by wind, water, and tree growth. Originally slated for destruction and silicon mining, the park was saved through government action. It has since gained fame for its characteristic peaks, as well as from the success of the Avatar movie.
