Everyone who sent in their entry by December 21, provided that the entries were complete with all the information required, will receive a personalized copy of the calendar in the mail.Year End/New Year Giveaway!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Wow, I can't believe I've been a part of deviantART for 7 years! You have all been very kind and wonderful to me, and I feel that it's time for me to give something back. So here's a small giveaway event! I had designed a tiny calendar and it's my sincere wish to mail one out to everyone, but I only have enough material to print 100 copies before the new year comes.
Oh, and here is the aforementioned calendar that may or may not be worth your trouble.
Again, I'm really sorry that my budget only allows for mailing to US addresses right now. I'll try to include everyone else the next time!

Planetary Mythology Photomanipulation Competition!Mythology of the PlanetsPlanetary Mythology Photomanipulation Competition!1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
Welcome to the latest "dark" photomanipulation contest, supported by Community Relations here on deviantART. This contest will challenge you to think outside of the box, for you will have to not only create something, but you will need to do a bit of research and think about why you are creating it. Are you ready for a competition that is out of this world?
Before we go any further, let me clarify that PLUTO COUNTS!
What do I have to do?
Choose one of the planets (or Pluto) in our solar system, listed below. Moons or suns can be a part of the larger picture, but they do not count as your god/goddess.
Your job is to create a PHOTOMANIPULATION in which you show a myth around a planetary ruler (that is, the god or goddess after which the planets were named).
The gods/goddesses can be Greek, Roman, or other.... but they must be planetary rulers.

this is a contest for a character for the "Anima: Gate of Memories" video game.
I will be very clear, there will be NO PAYMENT for any winners here. You enter if you want to do this, and we are in no way trying to scam anyone of doing free work.
What the winner will get out of this contest:
1. the winner's character will be 3D modeled, and put into the game as a character inside the game and story. We will work to incorporate this character into the story, without him or her just standing around for nothing.
2. the winner's full name will be in the credits.
3. This character will be copyrighted primarily to this game, you are allowed to use the artwork for your portfolio, but may be a bit complicated if you want to sell him/her off to a new client. Details of copyright can be discussed with the winner.
What we are looking for:
1. human character in any age or body type, he/she should look like a fa

Is anything working right now? :IThere seems to be a glitch that won't let a majority of my watchers get notified of my updates. I noticed this after posting and realizing there is significantly reduced traffic. I logged into my other account :iconknites: and sure enough, the newest update did not appear in the other account's inbox. Some people have reported receiving the update, while many others reported not receiving it. I decided to make sure and made a poll asking people if they received the lasted drawing in their inbox, and guess what? There's another glitch affecting the polls so most people aren't getting notified of the poll either... =_= Or at least the newest poll is not showing up in my other account either. I wonder if people will even see this journal? Is anything working right now? :I2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I already reported the bug, but if people can see this journal, I'm curious if anyone is experiencing similar problems? I remember years back there was a bug that only affected people with a certain amount of watchers which means some ar

REMINDER AND PRIZE UPDATE
Enter if you dare . . .
Ombre-De-Nuit is a high-level "dark" digital group here on dA. The administrators of the group are darkly pleased to present you, our members, with our latest challenge: The Brothers Grimm meet Burton.
Your task, should you dare to undertake it, is to twist a Grimm Fairytale into a Burton-style Nightmare.
You can find examples of Grimm fairytales here. Some popular ones include Rapunzel, Hansel & Gretel, and Cinderella. You can choose one Grimm fairytale to twist; it's fine just to depict a scene of your choosing or make one up on your own. But, the fairytale should be at least somewhat recognizable, and it must have elements that are Burtonesque.
Think about what Burtonesque means. What is the undercurrent between Sweeney Todd, Beetl
10 yearsI just noticed, today is the 10 year anniversary of this Deviantart account. How disturbing and weird. If only I would have taken art seriously for all of those 10 years, but then I would be a completely different person. I haven't changed as much as most... but at least I'm not the same angsty teenager I was when I made this account. The younger me would have expected me to be married with kids and a mortgage by now. The current me expects that to be the case in the next 10 years. Hopefully future me doesn't mess that one up. At least I will count on my future self to be twice as good at art as I currently am... but let's aim for at least three times as good.10 years2 years ago in Personal More Like This

deviantART v999We're working on deviantART v999. So far, it's a lot of prototypes, concepts and color explorations that are waiting for clarity on some technologies coming out of R&D.deviantART v9991 year ago in DeviantART Announcements More Like This
A lot of you probably wonder where the hell our mobile apps are. I do. Quick answer: They're trapped under a bigger project. It's worth the wait, but we're far overdue on release. The biggest problem has been the Message Center, whose architecture, look and feel, etc. simply doesn't port over to Mobile & Tablets. For these, we need to streamline the incredibly powerful experience of deviantART's message center, so that it can be consumed on smaller screens without having to click lots of buttons.
Activity Feeds are supposed to be the obvious solution. But at deviantART, people love their Message Centers specifically because they aren't feeds. Each item from your +watch list, or Feedback area comes in as an item. Each item must be removed from the Message Center by you. This is great because it allows us to

Winter Alliance Contest! Greetings, fair Allies! It is my pleasure to announce the Winter Alliance Contest!Winter Alliance Contest!2 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
What is the Alliance, you ask?
The Alliance is a project group intended to encourage visual and literary artists to work together. I've felt for some time that the dA Literature Community can at times be somewhat insular - to its detriment. We in the Lit Community are also sometimes prone to griping about the lack of exposure our work receives when compared to that of visual artists. So in the spirit of ^thorns brilliant Complaint Challenge I thought I would try to do something about that. And so the Alliance was born!
Because I, your founder, have a deep and abiding love for the seasons, this group will now host seasonal contests, and as the Autumn Contest is now over, it is time for Winter to reig
Quiet.I'm drawing every day.Quiet.3 years ago in DeviantART Announcements More Like This
And taking photos every day.
And designing every day.
The drawing usually leads to the designing. Or vice versa.
The photos are just something I can't help. If I miss a shot, but see the photograph that could have been, I get kinda depressed about it. So I just take photos to avoid that feeling. I miss a lot of photos anyway. But I try to remind myself that those were photos just for me. And that's a nice feeling when you can see photos that someone else will never see. Really incredible things happen all around, all the time, so long as you're looking for it. Challenging yourself to see the art out there even if it hasn't been pointed out by anyone but you, for you.
The designing is all deviantART. Plus designing apartments for new friends in town, or helping friends with their apps or startups. Like http://www.trendabl.com or something. But usually it's for internal deviantART projects.
Stuff we've been working on forever that hasn't seen the light of day

About sxc.hu stockGreetings!About sxc.hu stock2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
A few of you have been really worried lately about using stock from sxc.hu here because of the change in their ownership. Basically, you were concerned that their license says that you cannot redistribute their stock in whole or in part, by itself or combined with other elements, without the written approval of the original photographer.
As we all know by now, creating a photomanipulation is considered "making a derivative image." And we know we can't make premade backgrounds without permission from the photographers, as doing so is redistributing their work.
I advised a couple of you to check with the Help Desk and sxc.hu to find out the whole truth before making rash decisions about your group that could potentially make everyone panic.
Using my own personal account, I wrote to sxc.hu to find out what the story was. Here's what I said:
I was just wondering whether creating phot

Welcome to your bigger, better photomanipulation newsletter. We are pleased to bring you up-to-date information about things that are going on in the community. It's been a busy few weeks, and we have a lot to share with you!
Direct link requirements on DDs
I spoke with fourteenthstar and Moonbeam13, and we decided that you should no longer have to put direct links to stock pictures in order to get a DD. So, you no longer need to direct link your stock pictures for DD purposes. (You DO still need to credit stock, though!) However, many groups still require those direct links for submissions, and that decision is entirely up to the group administrators. We hope this change will help make suggesting and posting DDs easier.
Feature TimeIt's just too hot, isn't it? I was on a excursion to Eichstätt last Saturday (14 h hell) and I can just say, I hate travelling with the train when the air condition isn't working and you have some crying babys, some shrieking little kids and some teanager making very bad jokes all the time in one compartment. I think there must be any divinity, who wants me to suffer not only a little bit. I'm naturally a very shy, nice person and it's hard to break my patience (only in art and some other things I have none), but Deutsche Bahn succeed it every time.Feature Time2 years ago in Personal More Like This

What is a photomanip Daily Deviation?Hello everyone! How are you? What is a photomanip Daily Deviation?3 years ago in Personal More Like This
deviantART policy defines a DD as an image that [a staff member or volunteer] finds impressive or otherwise interesting enough to deserve being brought to the attention of the community-at-large. In other words, it is a deviation that ROCKS and that we think everyone should have the pleasure of seeing!
DDs are important because:
They bring personal exposure to the artists who are featured AND, to a lesser extent, to the artists who suggest themThey bring attention to the photomanipulation community and show everyone what we are all aboutThey provide a way of touching or influencing people on a large scale by providing a powerful messageThey give people something to strive toward and serve as a source of pride. Thus, it is an honor and a privilege, but also a significant responsibility, to be able to award them.
While I select Daily Deviations, YOU are able to suggest excellent work (including your own) to b

A little story...Wanted to share this story with you guys, and future creators:A little story...1 year ago in Personal More Like This
After getting out of a slump, I wanted to share this story of something I went through a few years back. Bit of a read, but thanks for sticking through it
As you know, Comic-Con is arriving and as I prepare for it, I grow more and more anticipated with anxiety/joy in regards to the re-release of Last Man Standing.
As long, challenging, and mind-opening the creation of LMS was, something really stuck with me.
Before I had created LMS, I wanted to work for WETA Workshop. To those that don't know them, they've created props, designs, sets, costumes, and more for The Lord of the Rings, Avatar, District-9, Elysium, The Hobbit and many more films.
I was obsessed and inspired with them. The creator, Richard Taylor was always a huge inspiration to me. After viewing supplements on the Extended Editions of The Lord of the Rings DVDS, I knew right there: I HAD TO WORK FOR THEM.
So I al
Deviantart, you're F****NG AWESOMESo I got both a DD and a Facebook feature for my LA piece yesterday, and it finally just hit me how amazing this place is. All the love and support I've gotten here is mind-boggling to me. I would even go as far as to say that it's made my career. This is where I found my "audience", my first industry connections, fellow artist friends etc. This is where I first saw Dan LuVisi's King Kong piece and stared at it in awe for hours, and then had my mind blown the day I found out that both him and Rahll (Reid Southen) knew who I was! I mean, these were guys I was idolizing like fucking movie stars, and today I consider these guys to be good friends, even though I still havne't met either of them.. (I think they're just intimidated by me sexually.) But anyway, I always knew I could draw, based on the reactions from people around me, but I also always considered myself a complete nobody. How Malware Works Via Banner Ads
As many deviants know, deviantART has been working hard to combat malicious banner ads that infiltrate
our advertising network, and we've previously addressed this issue in
and August 2011.
In our ongoing effort to keep the deviantART community safe, we wanted to share the following
video that explains how malicious ads inundate the Web.
How Malicous Ads Inundate the Web
(Source: USA Today)
Malware advertising is an Internet-wide problem that affects many of the Net's top sites.
