Copic Markers and Pony colorsI get a LOT of questions regarding what colors I use where when it comes to the ponies, and I keep saying I'm gonna make a little guide. Well, let's give it a shot.Copic Markers and Pony colors2 years ago in Personal More Like This
For the majority of my covers, I use Copic markers to color. Copics are light-fast, alcohol markers... not unlike a classic school marker, but higher quality. I prefer Copic over other brands primarily for a few reasons: Variable tips (markers, fine, brush, etc), better blending, and they can be refilled! This is the BIG selling point to me... this means you can buy the marker once, and continue to refill. It also means you can custom blend colors should you desire. Copics also guarantee that if you buy Y00 yellow, and then buy another down the line, the colors will match. I've bought the same marker color from other brands and had them not match. I will use other brands here and there for very specific colors or effects, but Copic is 99% of my marker work.
So... when I do a cover or whatever, I do basic ink lines first wit

Twenty YearsTime is weird. It feels like forever ago that I came to Bristol, like yesterday that I met Alexx, like last week that I started my second year, and like a year since I finished my second year film. All of that is completely in the wrong order. What the hell, brain?Twenty Years1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Anyway, regardless of how fucky the way we experience of time is, the reality is that I'm now 20! Some of you noticed - thanks to all the people who left birthday messages! Seriously, there's like 40 of them, it's crazy! I never really thought I'd get this far and already have someone call me their "idol", like that really kinda nuts! I'm honoured in any case, but still! It's been great fun this past year putting out comics and seeing so many people really loving them, and I'm hoping I can keep putting my comics in front of people that'll love them.
They may have to take a back seat, however, as I do really have to knuckle down and get on with stuff that I can use as portfolio fodder to get myself employed once I gr

Comics are hand-drawn on 8.5" x 11" paper.
b/w (pencil & ink) page: $30
color (traditional or digital) page: $60
Please keep the approximate panel count down to six per page. And if you supply dialogue, keep in mind that I may change it slightly to fit the artwork. Also, keep it simple as far as characters go. 2-3 characters works best for this.
2. Thrandrall (more of a series of pin-ups, but I'm putting it here in terms of workload)
Pin-ups are hand-drawn on 11" x 14" watercolor paper, and I'll more than likely do watercolors for all pin-ups.
b/w (pencil & ink): $30
color (traditional or digital): $50
Pin-ups are single character. If there's a duo or something you absolutely need, we'll work something out rate-wise.

#34I want to bring attention to this piece below. It is titled, "Helplessness", and I feel that... every person can relate to this on some level, whether that is because you have felt it recently, felt it in the past, or have just come across it randomly.#344 years ago in Personal More Like This
I encourage you to read the Artist's Comments and to 'make a difference' there, as it were. I know I urge you to 'make a difference' on a weekly basis, but... that is online, and this is real life. This is what matters.
I can't say I fully agree with the piece in the sense that the world will "fall further into the dark pit as time goes by", but then I have a (naive) hope in that there is good and bad out there, there is harmony.
Anyway, just go and look at that piece, read the Artist's Comments, and.. yeah, do it if you can.

Here's a sample of responses I've heard from some editors over the years when I've raised practical business concerns regarding comic book publishing:
"No, we don't know exactly what books you'll be doing, but we're (insert name of big publisher) Comics, so sign exclusive with us and not (insert name of competing publisher who has titles ready for you)!"
"This is a (insert name of big writer) book! I know he's late, but just think of how many people would love to be in your shoes!"
"The page rate isn't good, but at least you'll be getting to work with (name of big superhero whom you're supposed to be a fan of)!"
"We won't fly you out or put you into a hotel, but you should come so you can sign at the booth for us! Who doesn't love signing autographs?"
What do these statements have in common? They're emotional arguments made to sidestep yo

Commissions! So, um, I decided to try my hand at the whole commissions thing that's all the rage with the kids these days.Commissions!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
-$4 for a character sketch
-$8 for a digitally inked character
-$12 for a digitally inked character with flat colour
-$16 for a digitally inked, coloured, and shaded character
Any extra characters in the picture will cost $4 per additional character.
If you would like a coloured background for a picture with flat colour or shaded colour it will cost an additional $2, otherwise it will just have a transparent background.
I'm fine with drawing just about any character, although there are a couple of things that I won't draw.
Things I won't draw:
5%If you're reading this now, it means you're roughly in the 5%. Most people who go online to read about comics will end up reading previews and "top 10" lists--subjects we all, or course, enjoy. But the articles/blogs that critically analyze our industry are usually only read by two types: people in the biz whom are affected by this stuff, and the few readers who are interested in reading more than word balloons when it comes to comics.5%3 years ago in Personal More Like This
And I'm not knocking people who don't care to read these articles. All readers are contributing to the industry with their buying power, and I'm thankful for them, even if they're not in the 5%. I admit, if I had a normal 9-5 job and a boss that was kicking my ass 5 days a week, I might not have the tolerance for these sorts of articles either.
That being said, I think we need more of these articles/blogs written from different points of view--more from creators especially. The 2010s will likely be r

. Pantie shots

Also, it's gotta be dubbed and have girl characters that don't sound like they're having sex all the time.

Longer term readers might recall back in the distant past..... the year 2011, my Cthulhu sculpture and several of my Lovecraftian illustrations were featured on the CW's TV series 'Supernatural'. Here you will find info and set photos, if you're interested: http://blog.nightserpent.com/2011/05/24/supernatural.aspx My art had never been utilized in that medium before, and it was a lot of fun to get to interact with showbiz folk. I'm happy to report that they wanted to use me again this year for the new season! The episode airs on April 27th (IMDB link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1995114/ ) and I would imagine as with last year that it will be available for streaming after it airs. The one catch is that we don't yet know how much of my art the camera will catch (last year it was quite visible), so I'll just ke

Anyway, since I hate properly addressing what's currently happening with the film and all other things, here is a simple numbered list to keep it...simple.
1: Going to be getting the entire adobe suite including flash and Dreamweaver soon.
2: If you didn't hear, for all you Digi-fans, The OFFICIAL first season of Digimon (US dubbed version) is released. (35 bucks at Walmart) and the second official released season will be out March 2013.
3: Been sick this week, so nothing new lately for the film, but once I'm up and running I'll be focusing on voice clips (auditions), story/script with help from the editors, music/score from haloflooder, and I'll finish all concept art. (which quite honestly, I'm getting sick...2 years of it ya know?)
4: Planning a behind the scenes for the film with Mr. voice of Johnny C. (His name has been withheld! -creepy dark voice-)
Any questions about future plans, or just questions about the film, ask away... I just might feel like answering. Stay tune

Anti- Bullying SpeechDear bullies, You see that 15-year-old girl holding hands with her one-year-old son that you called a slut? She was raped at 13. You see that boy crying that you made fun of for being a cry-baby? His best friend committed suicide last night. You see that girl that you make fun of for having all those bruises? She is abused by her parents. You see that bald woman that you made fun of? She is dying of breast cancer. You see that old man that you called ugly? He got a serious injury to his face in the war. You see that man that you made fun of for having all those burns? He ran into a burning hospital to save his dead daughter. You see that girl that you called fat? She is starving herself. You see that boy you called stupid? He has Down Syndrome. Like this journal and re-post if you are against bullying. I bet that none of you will re-post this journal. But I did. And I hope you do the same. And I hope you find the power to defend yourself and others aganist any kind of bullying. Stay stAnti- Bullying Speech2 years ago in Personal More Like This

3. What turns me on.
my legs being stroked, kissing, generic stuff like that.

No one, I just wish I was a better version of myself.
6. Where I want to be right now.
In a different country, namely outside of Europe with enough money to explore it properly. (Lets say Japan, South Korea, Canada)
7. The last thing I ate.
stir-fried vegetables (red onions, cabbage, peppers, carrot, bean sprouts) with some herbs
8. Sexiest person that comes to my mind immediately.<

I live in Salem, Massachusetts. Home of the infamous with trials and setting of the next Rob Zombie movie. A mere seventeen miles from here is Boston, which in a week's time has seen a bombing that has taken lives and limbs from people trying to enjoy a marathon on a warm spring day, a series of shootings (with even more bombs and injuries and fatalities), a region-wide lockdown, and a manhunt that is going on as I type this journal entry. And while it sounds crass to even bring it up in light of these events, this was supposed to be the weekend of the Boston Comic Con, an event that artists and fans alike look forward to all year. Due to all the madness of the past week, it has been postponed. It will happen at some point this year, so it's not like I'm sitting here feelin
