ON MY MIND by Sangelus
Odyssey Update 1This first weekend of reading and re-reading Odyssey selections was just as intensely rewarding as last year. I am incredibly grateful to once again be able to share this process with all of you. Having Clive Barker on board for Odyssey II is truly an enlightening and educative experience. There is nothing more thrilling than reading through each of the entries and then re-reading the chapters that truly resonate and carry with them immense writing skill. This story could have gone in so many worthy directions and genres, and there was no end to the creativity and storytelling skill on so many of the submissions.Odyssey Update 12 years ago in DeviantART Announcements More Like This
The people in my life were adequately warned, but there were still those that questioned my sanity and work methods as I stayed up for the duration of the weekend meticulously poring over eachof the entries... then starting over and reading them again.

To those who can't take criticismCriticism is a pretty vast word with a simple meaningTo those who can't take criticism1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Many take it as "hating","trolling","being jealous" and much more idiotic things.
You don't have to be better at something to be able to criticize it. Infact, that would ruin the entire point of criticism.
It's like you go out to get a pizza because you don't know how to cook, and the pizza tastes like shit. Do you have to do better than the pizza to make it taste bad? No! It tastes like shit either way.
Some people may like the pizza, and that's good for them. Respect it.
Same goes for music, you don't have to be a #1 rated musician to not like a song. It's human to like/dislike things. Claiming people to be "jealous" just shows that you cannot comprehend simple criticism. Some people may put it harsher than others (I for one am fairly straight forward) but it's nothing to be upset over.
Someone may actually like your shitty inika moc color rape.

Welcome to this months installment. I've had a few requests for this topic, so month 3 of this segment is going to be dealing with Human Anatomy
Before I start breaking this tutorial up into body parts, I'm going to start off with a 7 part series by :iconfoervraengd: called 'Understanding Anatomy' that covers most of the basics. If you're new to anatomy like I am I recommend checking it out, it's an excellent series!

5 Tips on Getting Started1. Do your research. Everyone can benefit from a little research. I bet if Paolini had, he wouldn't have written Lord of the Star Wars Dragonriders of Pern. Stephanie Meyer might have depicted Forks a little more accurately. Odds are, the idea for your story is not as unique as you think. Are there other stories out there like it? How can you make yours different? (And saying "Because it's meeeeeeee!" doesn't count. Boy, does it ever not.) Research can be anything from reading a vast swathe of YA to find out what's selling right now, to skimming Wikipedia articles for just how that piece of armor or weapon worked, to interviewing someone knowledgeable about a subject you want to include in your book. Most of the time, if you tell people you're writing a book, they get really excited about being consulted about it. And yes, that's a lot of reading. Because if you're writi5 Tips on Getting Started4 years ago in Personal More Like This

Welcome to Hell. What is this?Welcome to Hell.2 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Samhain: Dante's Inferno is an interactive adventure here on deviantART to help us celebrate Halloween. It is sponsored by a small group of Community Volunteers and a few select community members and backed by Community Relations. The adventure will begin on October 10th and end on October 31st.
In the fourteenth century, an Italian poet named Dante Alighieri composed one of the most influential collections of poetry of all time: The Divine Comedy. In the first book, Inferno, Dante himself ventures through Hell, guided by the spirit of the Roman poet Virgil.
Samhain is a Sabbat, or blessed day of festival, that some Wiccans and some other pagan traditions celebrate in October. It is the day in which the spirits of the dead are closest to us, a day to celebrate those who have passed before us.
. . . What better time to visit the souls of Hell?
What do I have to do?

This "DD Selection" includes 10 mental problems. I've noticed here on DA, these kinds of things don't tend to get DD's even though there are some that really deserve it. So these are what I would suggest as DD's.
This one is so simple, yet so powerful. The photographer who is also the model, is portraying what she goes through during a flashback to her rape. This one is quite personal to me, and I feel myself laying on that bed instead of her.
This one is depression.

Some Thoughts about Happiness. Some Thoughts about Happiness1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Hey everyone, Dea here.
Today I had a rather interesting train of thought which I would like to share with you.
I was asked a rather interesting question today by my mother that I never really paid much mind to but if you think about it, it is actually very interesting.
'What would make you happy?'
It is a question we hear a lot and ask ourselves very often, probably more than once a day even. But what is it that makes one self happy? It certainly isn't a 'thing' that can just suddenly make us happy. Even if we chose something as answer for this question, would it -really- make us happy once we received or achieved it? Well, it cetainly will for a few moments, minutes or hours... but I doubt there is something like an ultimate goal that will make you happy for the rest of your life.
Funny enough, studies have proven that people living in 3rd World Countries, (and let's face it, they deal with WAY worse stuff than us rich kids do with 'I can't reach my mobile but I'm too lazy to stand

If your Feminism says that men’s issues exist, but are simply caused by the “patriarchy" it’s most likely not about equality.

'For exposure' - a warning to artistsI ran into this Twitter page a few days ago. It's a collection of real comments that artists get all the time asking them to work for free, or, as these people often prefer to say, "for exposure".'For exposure' - a warning to artists2 years ago in Personal More Like This
People like this are usually trying to guilt-trip artists into taking on massive projects for no pay, claiming it'll be good advertisement or that they'll get paid once the project becomes a success. The truth is, the chances of getting picked up by a major studio are extremely small. The so-called free advertisement the artist may or may not end up getting is usually not worth the effort.
Just to give you a taste of the disrespect for an artist's time and energy that some people have, here's a choice quote:
"Need Animator-I have a story that's 4 seasons long, 10 episodes each. looking for maximum quality. No pay. I will warn that I am very picky"
Does this person even realize the amount of work that goes into animation? Depending on the

5 Tips on Creating Dynamic Character1. Start with a concept. This is how most of my characters start, and they usually begin with two or three word descriptors. "Demon stallion" or "spoiled dragon prince" or "psychic dolphin". Characters as this stage are more anima than anything; they are forces at play in the primordial soup of story. When an idea is this new, I try not to focus on it too much. Ideas need time to germinate, and I've found myself disappointed in times past when the potential of the character was so much more exciting than the concrete reality of what they became. Since during this time I'm developing plot and main conflict, I try to move characters around and see who I gravitate towards. This helps story and character grow organically. It's during this time that I try and determine what the character struggles with, the yin and yang of their internal difficulty. For example, I was recently asked to come up with a character for an urban fantasy roleplay, with no real details about th5 Tips on Creating Dynamic Character2 years ago in Personal More Like This
The New Street Photographer's ManifestoFebruary 7, 2013/by techgnoticThe New Street Photographer's Manifesto2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Street photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson called it the “decisive moment”— the captured instant when all the photograph’s elements come together to tell a story in a way a text narrative of thousands of words could never begin to. It is what hooks people, both practitioners and advocate-devotees, on the art form. It is uniquely completely immersive in life— step out into the streets— in which the moment of artistic epiphany can never be guessed at until it suddenly happens. When it is properly mastered, it is as pure as the dawn of each new day, as true as the living organism of a teeming street scene catching a breath as one.
It's no easy task to pull a book together for publication and "The New Street Pho
