1st off, put away your snowflake porn, winter is over... \sicko\... that being said,
There is /b/ a rapidly expanding paradox within the scientific community that has been dubbed 'the singularity';
simply put, it is the rise of machines from mindless constructs to fully sapient organisms. (Moar specifically it is the eventual rise of a singular construct bearing intellect that equals the ENTIRE human race - but we are simply concerned with sapience and mote conscious at this hour..) Science fiction has covered elements of this subject in many forms, from tasteful compositions such as 'i Robot' to lesser artistic productions such as 'Stealth'. It is ironic that 'Stealth' is closer to the truth than the majority of these films. Behold, your (if applicable) military's 'Great' plan:

10 tips for drawing portraits/realism:Here are the methods I use to draw my portraits. 1. Outline an area before you start shading it. It will make it much easier when you shade it.
2. Start shading dark areas first, then work your way into the lighter areas.
3. To shade light areas, rotate your pencil in tiny, gentle, circular motions.
4. BLEND BLEND BLEND!! It will make your picture look a lot more cleaner & smoother. Use a tissue or a blending stick.
5. Use a mechanical pencil for detailed areas such as the eyes and hair.
6. To create white wisps of hair: using a sharp object (such as a dead pen), scratch the paper. Then, when you shade over it, the scratched portion will remain white, giving off the effect of white hair.
7. Try drawing upside down. Seeing it in a different perspective really helps!
8. Do not skimp on t

I've been considering doing something like this for a while, but now I think I'll finally bite the bullet and try.
I'm going to be doing a 'raffle' for a free piece of art, by me. It will be a waist-up, digitally coloured picture of one character of your choice (OCs included!) which I'll be posting up to deviantart when its done.
So, if you're interested...
1. Watchers only! I'll be checking. :3
2. Fave this journal entry.
I'll be randomly selecting a winner September 8th, 6pm my time, and noting the winner. After a winner has been chosen, feel free to un-fave the journal entry again.
I'd like a minimum of 10 people entering! And if this goes well I might do some of these again in future.

In his latest column for the New York Times Magazine, Adam Davidson cites Gal Luft, an oil expert who dismisses political proposals from the left and the right to lower the price of gas. We asked him to elaborate in the following post.
When in December 2008, 60 Minutes correspondent Lesley Stahl asked Saudi Oil Minister Ali al-Naimi how much it cost Saudi Arabia to produce one barrel of oil, he didn't blink: "Probably less than $2 to produce a barrel." If it costs only $2 to produce a barrel of oil, then why do we pay over $105 a barrel?
Wall Street, Big Oil, President Obama, the Fed, environmentalists, the EPA have all been accused of pinching hardworking Americans at the pump.
But there is a much more important player that gets much less attention: OPEC.
Members of the oil cartel sit on top of nearly 80 percent of the world's conventional crude reserves. Yet they account for only a third of g

So instead of being a true gentleman and writing each person back separately, I figure it's easier to tackle this with an nice, impersonal journal post! orld War I (1914-1918) was a human catastrophe
that devastated Western civilization and mocked the hope inherent in “modernism”. The sheer volume of the war’s slaughter was beyond belief. The horror of it all destroyed the trust in science, medicine and technology as the golden gateway to a harmonious and peaceful future for humanity. All that was thought to be good had been twisted to the evil purpose of a global war. A global sense of hopefulness was replaced with a global sense of fear and loathing.

The Capture vs. The Pose
portrait of a WW2 vet...
When a subject poses to have his or her photograph taken, the subject tries to project a message about himself or
herself by how he or she “poses”, by the attitude of his or her body language or facial expression.
If the subject is posed by the photographer, the body pulled and prodded into the desired angles,
the facial expression “directed”, it is the photographer who is intending to communicate a message.
In either case, posing or posed, there is undeniably something “false” in the representation.

This week the superstars of deviantART panel will provide unique insight and advice for artists on the rise in the deviantART community.
Being a member of the deviantART community might be the most important support system a young artists could ever hope to have. That being said, there is also the problem of finding a way to stand out when surrounde
Art in Contemplation of Its Own BecomingDuchamp finds a discarded urinal. He alters it (by signing a name to it not even his own, but obviously “the artist’s”) and names it “The Fountain”. The most mundane, even off-putting, of objects is transformed by Duchamp into art. He submits it for exhibition and it is rejected. You might say the judges “pissed on” his idea. But the idea was born and persisted. Duchamp insisted the object was art because he as an artist presented it as such. “Conceptual Art” was born.Art in Contemplation of Its Own Becoming3 years ago in Personal More Like This

'Die Cis Scum', and my views on itSo, a while back, this one transgirl posted a pic of herself with Die Cis Scum tattooed on her arm. It was on either Tumblr or some fetish site-don't remember which. I know that the picture eventually got onto a fetish site, and was taken down as 'hate speech'-even though 660 people listed 'shemale' as a fetish and got absolutely no shit at all-but I don't think it was there first.'Die Cis Scum', and my views on it3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Also, around the same time, the same transgirl (well, I'm assuming transgirl...the pictures could've been of a rather masculine-faced and feminine-haired transguy, but I doubt it) wrote this article on Tranarchism: http://tranarchism.com/2011/11/21/guest-post-die-cis-scum/
(Note: it wasn't written by the transguy whose name it was published under.)
As usual whenever anything happens involving trans people, Tumblr went wild, whether supporting it or telling trans people to not do it because they didn't like it when people did it to them.
Here's my views on the whole thing.
I wholeheartedly, 100% support it
