These are the three hero characters I made for the TWEWY contest. Each of these were drawn with a standard no.2 wooden pencil. After scanning them I did a series of processes to the line art and then added color and the extreme Squenix style one tone shadow. This contest was great for me because it's always been one of my dreams to be a character designer, but I was always told it was too farfetched a goal(especially in the US).
These three hero's can be seen seperately in my gallery. The deadline is right around the corner so I suppose this'll be my last submission for awhile.
Short Explanation: Here's my entry for DeviantArt's 11th Birthday Skribble Contest.
Long Explanation: I started this contest as soon as it popped up in my inbox and got about half way through a piece that had sharks floating in space when I finally checked out some of the submissions and noticed that everybody was doing some kind of marine life thanks to shark week...so I started over.
Thank god I did because I am fairly new to using Manga/Comic Studio and I think I learned a lot from starting the other piece so that I was able to come up with something far more creative and something that I was infinitely more happy with.
As for this piece - I was so nervous about doing something with the lines that I wasn't supposed to (I read the rules like a million times) that I kept them on a separate layer the entire time so as not to mess with them even though I wanted to make them thinner or tapper soooo badly I was too afraid. If you can't make out the lines I have made up a cheat sheet here: [link]
Soooo long story short - thanks DA for the contest and the opportunity to create a piece that is the first one I am truly happy with in a long time.
So far everyone, I have had an excellent time deciding, sketching and creating these illustrations for not only this contest, but for the games fan art as well. This in particular piece I decided that I wanted to do something I have not done yet... Which has now become my favorite illustration for Gears of War I have done yet
Inspired by the gameplay of GoW3, I decided to take a more simplistic approach to my second entry. I knew I wanted to do another Marcus piece, and this one would have him in just black and white. The splatter effect I did, along with the hidden #3 came after... after I had already painted up a background for this piece and then tossed it lol. Happens I guess : / Gave me more practice on the positive side.
Tried doing this piece without the blue glow to his armor and gun, however I rather like it, so I kept it haha.
I believe I will try to get around to doing a 3rd entry to this contest, but as we all know these things take a lot of time. Regardless to weather or not I get to another GoW3 piece, I'd like to thank the Gears of War team for coming up with this contest and DA for hosting it.
Again, another piece that required some sleep deprivation and RedBull action
Her Name is Emma but she likes to be called Ace Queen, she plays well the role as hero, even tough her attitude will fit better as a villain, she is very determined to obtain what she wants and very self confident, Her true nature its to solve troubles and since been part of the bad guys offers no challenge, she stick up with the god guys! She can be of real help for any battle; her powers are classified by 4 types;
Diamonds-(blue) - She can absorb energy form fiends, and use it for freezing time.
Hearths-(pink) - Gives to her, the ability to seduce the senses of the human fighters and can manipulate their thoughts, as she can manipulate later on their powers to her will.
Clovers-(green) To be able to heal and render for short time innumerability! She can heal any wound or magical status.
Spades-(purple) Adds to her magic powerful physical attacks and can summon sword magical weapons from anywhere she can through her cards! They will aim the target with out need she to hold the weapons.
I did this character pretty fast like; 1 whole day took me to do this! Since I just knew of the contest yesterday! So I am very happy to have done this work and to be able to do some different style, since I am not very familiar with anime illustration myself! Although I am always a big fan of all the Square Enix games! I Enjoy a lot all the art behind, so I had to take part of this journey! Let me know what you think? Thanks guys!
EDIT I sadly didn't make it to the semi-finalists, but that's okay. The contest definitely pushed me outside of my comfort zone and I think this is probably one of my best pieces to date. Thanks to everyone for their kind words and support, and best of luck to the semi-finalists!
Prints won't be made available here, but they are available at RedBubble.
