BUTTERFLY EFFECT Chapter 10
~"The Man Who Sells Souls"~
"Alright, Edward .where the hell are you, you chibi-chump?"
Cade had been waiting at hospital main entrance for the given fifteen minutes and even graciously waited another five minutes for the alchemist who had practically sworn up and down that he didn't need to be told again and again when to come back. That notion seemed to crash land fantastically.
"Dammit I'm wasting time " Cade's eyes darkened. "I can't stand that."
The young woman sighed. "Guess I gotta go look for O-chibi."
Cade began venturing down the hallway which Edward took earlier. One of the overhead lights crackled and went out. She hoped that wouldn't happen again. The idea of looking for someone in pitch-darkness was unappealing, even to her. "Man, this is such a big hospital how am I ever gonna find such a pipsqueak-y kid? Hey, wait a minute "
After going about the upcoming corner, Cade spied a door on the left side. Trying the knob, sh

As they strolled casually down extravagant Parisian streets, Cadencia smiled cheerfully, with her arm linked about Sebastian's. To the butler's own surprise, his expression was a relatively cheerful one, as well. For some reason he could not discern, Sebastian did not mind the fact that Cadencia was not typically a serious person. Her happy-go-lucky nature was a refreshing change of pace, compared to the other stuffy humans about. He always observed her closely; everything about her was new and delightfully strange to the demon. The way that she was trailing the fine, silk hem of her gown in the dust of the side walk, the way that she would wave to anyone who passed by her, regardless of social status, even the way that she held onto his own arm, not frightened in the least that he was a demon.
Even if she hadn't yet specified a wish to create a contract, at least she wouldn't be a miserably annoying human to linger around with in the meantime. Quite the co

The dull, grey sky stood still, unchanging, as always. If there were trees, the hollow breeze would have surely rustled through them, but this was The Void. This was the land of the Demons, as determined by the Gate of Time, and there was not even a single blade of grass in The Void, let alone a tree. This world was truly fitting for demons, which is why the Crow Demon couldn't understand why the other Demon, the Dove, was so unsatisfied.
"Belial "The Crow began sternly. "What exactly are you thinking? Lady-Time appointed us with the duty of devouring souls determined 'impure' by the Gate of Truth. It has been this way since-"
"I know that, Malphas, but I wouldn't expect you to understand the way that I feel."
"Yes, how could I possibly understand the feelings of another Demon?" Malphas retorted, tone with laced with pure sarcasm.
"Even though you are also a Demon, you really do not understand."

~"That Mistress, Full Of Purpose"~
Sebastian stared at his mistress, presently unconscious in one of the infirmary's many beds. The nurses, the doctors and Sebastian himself were without a valid explanation. How had she been unmarred by the flames? Her clothes were slightly burnt, but Cadencia herself was without a single smudge of ash. Even Sebastian had not escaped completely unscathed. The wounds had healed, certainly, but
Cadencia stirred lightly. "Sebastian ?"
"You're awake " There was the slightest touch of relief in his tone.
"Where are we? Is this the infirmary?"
She sat up quickly, alarmed. "Sebastian .what happened to your hair ??"
The change was staggering. The long ponytail Cadencia had so loved was gone. Sebastian's hair at this moment was choppy and uneven; far shorter in the back than in the front. The butler gave an almost rueful smile.
"I am quite regretful to inform you that there was an explosion inside the

A gloved hand pulled back the long, gossamer window curtains, letting warm sunlight stream into the room and onto the sleeping girl. Her long black hair had faded and become a dark sepia.
"Young Miss, it is time to wake up."
"Mmm no." She mumbled into her pillow.
"No? Young Miss, I'm afraid there isn't much choice."
"If you can get me out of bed, I'll get up." She opened an eye. Like her hair, the loss of part of her soul had caused her eye color to fade as well, to a far lighter blue.
"Oh, is that a challenge?" Pale lips formed a smirk.
"Yes. Go ahead and try, if you think you can." Cadencia challenged her demonic companion.
"Well then, as the Young Miss wishes."
In one motion, the well-dressed butler slipped his gloved hands under the mattress and flipped it off of the frame, toppling the young woman with it too.
"Oh! Fine you win."
The butler brought over a pink and white lace dress and black high heels. "Here, Young Miss."

Cadencia wasn't sure what to make of his attempts. Since Sebastian had disappeared, Claude had all but taken his place as her butler. Granted, she didn't allow him to do much for her, as had been the same with Sebastian, but the Spider Demon had begun to create schedules typical for an aristocrat, as Sebastian had also previously done. Latin lectures at twelve, violin lessons at three it was the same, and yet it was not. She appreciated what Claude was doing for her, but she knew it was only because he hoped she would create a contract with him. She couldn't understand why he lingered for that reason. She had made it quite clear that she couldn't promise her soul to anyone until she accomplished her mission she had set for herself.
A mission that might as well have been impossible, a mission that might kill her. It was very likely she would die before she completed it. Even so, Claude was still determined to stay in the hope

Sebastian stared at the evergreen landscape jadedly. A lush green meadow and rolling hills stretched out before him, clashing with the endless blue sky above.
"Milady what was this 'crucial' thing you were talking about?"
"Well, you said you've never had fun before."
"Yes, but I don't see what that has to do with our current location. What are we doing here?"
"You're going to have some fun."
"And how is that, exactly?"
"See this hill?"
"Oh, not at all." Sebastian replied, bitingly sarcastic.
"Really? You really don't see it? Perhaps some glasses are in order, then." Cadencia joked, and laughed lightly.
Though it irked him, to his own surprise, he was not insulted.
"What about the hill, Milady?" Sebastian asked, trying to get back on track.
"Roll down it."
He gave her bewildered look. "Beg pardon?"
"Roll .down the hill." She emphasized a few words purposefully.
"You want me to get on the ground and roll down this hill?" He asked, making sure

It had been many years since the Winfield house had been aglow with such life. Sebastian had invited the guests, and each came accordingly. They were important people; a business man, a marquess and a marquis, a doctor, the chief of guards for the king, and even an actor.
Cadencia was very impressed with the great progress Sebastian had made in cooking. The meals he had prepared as of late tasted just as decadent as they looked. Lain out on a white lace table-covering, were serving trays of hors d'oeurves, cakes, and a variety of delicacies, which Sebastian deemed "crucial at an aristocratic gathering." She simply shrugged it off and let it drop. It wasn't worth arguing over anymore.
Cadencia sat down in a satin-cushioned oak chair against the wall, out of the way of everyone. Sebastian sent her a look which most certainly said, 'you need to be socializing, not sitting.' She gave a half-hearted nod and waved him off with a look of her own which retorte

The sudden gunshot caused Cadencia to exclaim lightly. Biting her lip, she felt worry fill the pit of her stomach. True enough, there was no proof of it, but what if Sebastian had just been shot? The thought of him being hurt stirred something deeply in Cadencia that she'd never felt before. Thinking it wouldn't do any good; Cadencia rose from the bed and furiously slammed her closed fist against the locked bedroom door. To her shock, the door went flying off of its hinges, and crashed against the wall outside. She stared agape for a moment. It had to have been weak, right? The hinges must have been rusty .
Cadencia shook her head and pushed it aside. She had to hurry to Sebastian. When she thought it over, she realized he'd probably scold her for leaving the room. Would he be really angry? Would he forgive her? Was he even all right? What if he had been shot? A cold sensation hit her like a satchel filled with bricks. What if .he w

~The End of the World~
"Ow " A sharp throbbing sensation jolted Edward awake. Slowly, the boy rose from his unconscious position upon the alley ground. The second he did, however, the alchemist was extremely bewildered.
"Where am I ?"
It was a cold winter night in a dreary, decrepit looking city that lay in near ruins, blanketed lightly by snow. The alchemist decided it would be better to keep moving. Maybe if he saw someone, they might be able to help him, though Edward couldn't imagine what kind of people would live in such a city. It was like something came through and raided the whole place. A twister or a really bad earthquake was probably to blame. There were many buildings that had their tops razed clean off. Nearly all of the building windows were smashed, cracked or missing completely. Many sorts of papers, pamphlets and fliers scattered the ground and there were strange things left to rust in at the sides of the street. Edward presumed the

"Really now, Sebastian .why are you wearing a tailcoat .?" Cadencia asked, after looking up from her book.
"It is the proper attire for a butler, is it not, Milady?"
"I don't like that! Don't restrict yourself to a uniform, Sebastian. Wear whatever you want! I already said I hate the idea of servitude, anyways. In fact, I'm sure I've said it many times "
Sebastian gave an amused chuckle. "I suppose I should have expected your usual level of resistance ."
She shrugged. "It couldn't have hurt."
"That reminds me, Milady "
"Are you really not curious as to how my wounds have already healed? I was certain you would have said something about it ."
"Why? You were healed the next day after I first met you, too. This isn't any different. Besides, you are a demon. It figures you would heal faster than a human would."
"It doesn't bother you?"
She thought he was trying to provoke her in some wa

~"That Mistress, Gracious"~
The red haired wanderer heaved a sigh upon drawing in his line from the river, once again discovering that he had no luck.
"The fish don't appear to be biting, that they don't…."
Deciding there was no harm, nor nothing to lose, he cast his line out once again. The wanderer allowed his thoughts to meander off to the city he had recently become acquainted with. Paris was a far cry from humble Kyoto. Never had he seen such unnecessary luxuries….or such haughty attitudes. What in the world was a "Bourgeoisie," anyways? He hadn't understood what the woman had said then, and he still didn't now.
Quite honestly, he was in awe over the fact that no one had tried to arrest him for carrying a sword in broad daylight. Certainly, he had gotten a few estranged looks here and there, but even the person he had assumed to be a police officer had paid it no mind.
He began letting his thoughts venture further and more seriously, to the strange situation
