News to know: beware of phishing scams! There is currently an individual or group of individuals who have created a fake deviantART login page, and they're using hijacked accounts to continue to share the URL of the fake page.
Please spread the word:
If you click a link that directs you through the deviantART "There Be Monsters Out There" outgoing link page and you unexpectedly return back to deviantART while logged out, check the URL of where you are before entering any of your details.
The proper URL for the actual deviantART login page is: deviantart.com/users/login. (Note that there is nothing between "deviantart" and "com" except for a "dot.")
If you find yourself unexpectedly logged out after clicking an offsite link, immediately check the URL to see if anything extra has been added -- this would indicate that you are in fact on a third-party website masquerading as deviantART. For example, if the URL reads something like deviantart.[som
Presenting: Community VolunteersA BRIEF OVERVIEWPresenting: Community Volunteers5 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Over the years, we've been proud to offer the opportunity to volunteer with deviantART. We believe that our volunteers play a crucial role in helping our community develop and grow in positive ways.
The Gallery Moderator (previously known as Gallery Director) and Message Network Admin (MN@) teams have become a much loved and appreciated role, with many volunteers proudly detailing their experience in applications to enter into successful careers with companies who all recognise the value of volunteering in such a vibrant and eclectic community. Did you know that some of our now full time Staff were once volunteers? fourteenthstar, Moonbeam13, Pachunka, aunjuli, y2jenn, damphyr, Tachy-on, dxd and Ikue all volunteered in various roles -- and we are all very proud of that fact!
Over the past few months, we've been taking a close look at the volunteer experience -- what's worked, what hasn't worked a
deviantART's response regarding Art4Love.comIt recently came to our attention that a website called Art4Love.com was offering prints for sale, some based off of deviations also found on deviantART.com (and perhaps other works by artists not on deviantART). Art4Love.com is currently offline, but was up long enough to make some artists very understandably upset, as neither the artists (we are told) nor deviantART ever gave permission for Art4Love.com to sell these prints.deviantART's response regarding Art4Love.com4 years ago in Personal More Like This
We've been tracking the exchanges of comments and journals about all possible infringing activity and are ready to provide information from our side that would help legal action that any of the affected artists decide to bring. We will also fully cooperate with any government agency that may become involved because of consumer complaints against this apparently infringing website and the people running it. We would also happily cooperate with any possible fraud investigations.
As a note of caution, we don’t have all the fa

deviantPOINTS: An updateOver the past few months we’ve been keeping a watchful eye on the way that members in our community have been offering points as payment for certain types of services within deviantART. We’ve seen all sorts of creative uses, from offering to critique your work for a few points, journal features for a few more points and my personal fav -- avatars, journal skins and any other sort of art commission for points. It’s been great to see deviants use their experience and skills to fund their super group upgrades, prints purchases and even treating their friends and families to their very first item of deviantWEAR.deviantPOINTS: An update5 years ago in Personal More Like This
As time rolled on, we noticed a new trend creeping in. People were not just offering a small number of points for a task that they’d normally do as part of their daily deviating -- people were offering thousands of page views for hundreds of points, and there seemed to be no limit to the amount that could be purchased, or offered. It didn

A mere eleven years ago, deviantART met its humble beginnings. Since that time, we've grown to be the world's largest online art community, but even a site as massive and established as deviantART had to start somewhere. We never forget those few small sparks that launched deviantART to be where it is today, and that's what we're celebrating during our birthday season.
For this year's community event, we're embracing the idea of starting small and creating something amazing from just a few quick sketches. We've started this work for you and challenge you to finish it with the pizzazz that only the best art community in the world co

Introducing the new Journal portal!
A brand new look is coming to the News page.
From the Journal portal, which will be replacing the News page, you'll be able to browse, submit, or search journals and news. You'll be able to browse by Newest, Popular, and Featured (which is comprised of official deviantART news and highlights).
Journals will be visible with their skin, giving you a better context of the post.

Vigilante Oriented GroupsWhen the deviantART Groups system launched in beta nearly two years ago we fully expected it to become home to a large variety of Groups centered around every subject possible and that is exactly what has happened and we are really encouraged to see so many embracing the Groups concept and coming together around these common topics to share their thoughts and works.Vigilante Oriented Groups4 years ago in Personal More Like This
Today we’d like to discuss a certain type of Group which often comes to our attention, and not always in a good way; the “vigilante” style Group.
For those who may not be familiar with these types of Groups, what we call a “vigilante” Group are those which are created and centered around gathering deviants together to encourage the reporting of rule breakers and members who may be in violation of one or more official policies.
While gathering together in order to promote following the rules is not a bad thing there are good and bad ways for these types of Groups to operate; We always appre
Harassment: A Survival GuideIt's no secret that the members of deviantART are an opinionated bunch! For good or ill, there is always plenty to say about art that speaks to them. Steve Jobs - Community Contest and Tribute:icontechgnotic:Steve Jobs - Community Contest and Tribute4 years ago in Personal More Like This
A number of media outlets are closely monitoring the artistic response by our community to the death of Steve Jobs.
For me, Steve Jobs is an icon. The John Lennon of our time. And while his wife and children, as well as Apple and Pixar, are the landmarks of his life, Steve Jobs encapsulates the core values that have inspired a generation, separate from the images put forth by his companies.
It is his iconography that we as a community should come together and try our hands at capturing. No small feat, but it is precisely what I'd like to see us do. The iconography of Steve Jobs himself. Apple and Pixar and those types of images aside, Steve Jobs transcends these accomplishments through the meaning of his life's work, his vision, and the inspiration that he will continue to be to us all.
Iconography is the branch of art history which studies the identification, description, and the int

UPDATE (May 19, 2012): Based on feedback received, we've updated the new thumbnails to be justified. Thumbnails are now spaced out across the rows, making them flush against the left and right sides of the page. When a browser's window is too small, justification cannot happen without leaving larger awkward spaces. In these cases, justification is turned off and thumbnails become left aligned. We think these changes present the most appealing interface for both cases.
For those of you who didn't see the new thumbs when they were previewed a month back, here's a re

Ever wanted to +fav a journal? Well now you can! This is a feature that's been in the works for a little while now, and over the coming weeks will reshape the way that you see and submit content here on deviantaARTEver wanted to +fav a journal? Well now you can!5 years ago in Personal More Like This
So what's this new feature?
At the moment, deviantART has many different types of content (e.g. journals, news and deviations) which are all different to use, located in different places, and produce completely different types of content.
The aim of this new feature is to unify all these systems, making them simpler to use and more consistent in appearance and functionality
How are we going to achieve this?
The most obvious and most widely used content you see on deviantART is Deviations. So the best way of merging all the current content into one, is to make Journals, News and Blogs into Deviations
Why is this better?
Apart from making content on deviantART simpler for new users, Journals and News will gain functions of deviations such as, favourites,

CEA Blog: How to Submit an Abuse ReportHi deviants!CEA Blog: How to Submit an Abuse Report5 years ago in Personal More Like This
Today I would like to address an issue that unfortunately happens quite often in abuse reports filed to our support center. We've had guides and articles written about this in the past but we felt it was time for a refresher!
So what is an "Abuse Report"?
The Abuse Report category is where a deviant would file their ticket under if they are being harassed or was witness to someone else being harassed out there in our community. Not knowing where to go or what to do when this happens understandably only adds to the problem!
Before anything else, please remember that abuse reports are only for the most severe of harassment issues. Things like disagreements, debates, general rudeness one might experience due to the anonymity of the internet or personal drama you may have with another deviant are some minor issues that can be easily handled by taking advantage of our Hide and

With the merge of the Gallery Moderators and MN@ Volunteers has come the collaboration of one BIG team and it's lovely getting to know the 'other side' so to speak. So it's with great delight that I share our massive response to fourteenthstar's article with Community Volunteers - Our Memories

When Being Human Just Isn't Enough:icontechgnotic:When Being Human Just Isn't Enough4 years ago in Personal More Like This
The allure of Anthro Art is obvious to anyone who ever “owned” and loved a pet. (Only those who have never loved and shared lives with a pet speak of pet “ownership”!) Once a bond has been formed between a human and an animal the rigid distinctions between what is human and what is animal begin to fracture.
The definition of “being” becomes suddenly far more expansive. And soon the bonded human begins feeling spiritual affinities with the “animal” that are undeniably powerful and as “real” as any felt with other humans. The desire to leave all the lies and hypocrisies of human society behind and join in with a simpler and somehow more “honest” society of different beings in nature can become palpable and intense. “The grass is always greener…” and, oh!, to scamper across it on four liberating paws!
Account Security - An UpdateRecently, there has been some rumours spreading throughout the community about a hacker going around taking over accounts and deactivating them. We'd like to reassure you on this matter, and to also provide you some useful pointers in order to keep your account secure.Account Security - An Update5 years ago in Personal More Like This
Upon hearing these "hacker" claims, we put our supersleuth dT Team to the task of making sure that nothing untoward was going on, and to verifythat there was no exploits within the deactivation process. We have been assured that there's no exploit that is being used to access accounts and deactivate them. There is a far simpler and less sinister answer, however and it's something that every one of us can take a proactive stance towards -- passwords. You need them for just about everything these days. What's the point of having them if you're only going to make them something really simple? The use of strong passwords is one of the most basic aspects of internet security.
Take a look at the image bel

How did you first discover deviantART?
I never knew about the internet until I was about 7 or 8 years old, where I would just play games on there once in a while. When I was about 11, I browsed around the internet a little more often, and ended up reading fanfiction of some movies and TV shows . I looked at some of the profiles of authors, and some linked their dA accounts. I browsed around that deviantART for a short time and dismissed it as nothing.
Shortly after turning 13, my English teacher made my class participate in the National Novel Writing Month where I typed my fingers off over 21,000 words and became an active member in the forums. After almost one year, someone posted a thread about deviantART. I visited this wonderful community again, an
