Wheatley Puppet FAQWow! So it's been over a year since I started my puppet project and I'm still getting messages and questions about Wheatley every week. You guys are nuts! In the best way. <3 I can't thank you enough for all the interest and kind words. It's been a great year taking Wheaters to conventions and getting to know fellow Portal fans. :3Wheatley Puppet FAQ3 years ago in Personal More Like This
If you've sent me a message on devart, my blog or youtube there's a good chance you've learned that I'm really really horrible about answering messages. You guys have been so patient with me and I've been meaning to sit down and write a better faq for a while now. I've got my coffee so let's do this thing!

Q: Can I make my own Wheatley puppet based on yours?
A: Sure! I've seen a few folks take a stab at their own Wheatley puppets since mine went up. It's really flattering that people like my weird ideas enough to give them a try.
Q: Can I buy a puppet from you?
A: I'm afraid I still don't have any plans to sta
Rooke's Character Building ExerciseThis was something I came up with when I was bored yesterday, and it turned out pretty fun. So you're welcome to try it.Rooke's Character Building Exercise1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Something very important to storytelling is creating unique, realistic characters who have thoughts, dreams, goals, and impressions all their own. Sometimes creating characters can be difficult if you don't know where to start, or if you can't seem to break out of certain stereotypes with your characters. So I made this little exercise in character building, just as a jump start to creating some random, interesting characters.
First, we have our two columns - TRAITS, and ROLES. A trait is an adjective. A role is a job or a "purpose" a character has. Most good characters have complex purposes and roles that they fill, far more than a single all encompassing word. But you can use these as starting points to creating characters.
What I did was make a list of 32 "traits" and "roles", whatever I could think of off the top of my head, that could be applied to stories of

How to get the most out of your keywordsThe keywords of your prints play an important role in how your artwork is discovered using our Print Shop's search feature. This will enable you to search through the prints available on deviantART using their keywords. Here are some tips for using keywords that will help people find your work:How to get the most out of your keywords8 years ago in DeviantArt Announcements More Like This
Use as many words as you can
The more words you use, the more times your print will be viewed. Let's say, for instance, you are posting an image of some lovely roses. Some keywords you may use are "roses, flowers, plants, nature, Valentine's Day, romance, love, gift, bouquet, red, bloom, blossoms..." and anything else you can think of (while keeping it relevant, of course).
Keep them on topic
Sure, putting in "Harry Potter" and "hot girls" will get you more hits; however, there is a very slim chance the people searching for those words are going to buy your print if it doesn't have to do with the subject they've searched for. Try to keep your keywords rel

Ok we're back, sorta. School is a terrible environment for art. And I have a lot of people who can vouch for that XD Anyway, the point is, I won't be working on it at 10 a day. Not for now, anyway. What is going to happen instead, is, I'll be drawing the remaining Pokemon first, then :IconAldenlite: will vector them. After that I'll color them all at one go, and you guys will see the complete collection. About time, I know. It's coming to the end of a school term, after which I have a week to rush up my homework, and of course, the project. Hopefully I can get it up by then.
Anyway due to the new sequence of actions, we'll actually need 3 progress bars to handle this.
Sketched: 644/725 (Reuniclus)
Vectored: 600/725 (Seismitoad)
[Star!][No Star] - 83%
Colored (And Complete): 560/725 (Serperior)
[Star!][Star!][Star!][Half Star][No Star] - 77%

So, those of you who come to my livestreams are well aware of this fact, as it comes up often. But for those of you who don't know, for the past year or so I've been trying to go on a mission for my church. Mission as in "missionary". I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, nicknamed Mormons, and I've always wanted to serve a mission, ever since I was a little kid.
The way it works, is that I had to complete my paperwork, which included medical forms and dental and all sorts of stuff. It took a long time, because I had to complete the medical requirement, which had a weight limit for health reasons. It took me a while to lose the weight, but I did! And I finished all my paperwork, and I got it submitted!
In around two weeks, I'll be getting my call in the mail. It'll tell me where I'm going on my mission, and when I'm leaving (could be anywhere from a month from then, to half a year from then.) I could go anywhere, and I'll be sp
Overcoming Creative BlockI think every artist has creative block from time to time. A friend of mine did recently, so I typed up my own remedy for it. And I liked how it turned out, so I think I'll post it here too. Here's what you do -
Go find a book or comic book you haven't read. Read it. If you haven't read the Bone series by Jeff Smith, or the Bakuman series (it's a manga), then go find those, and read them. Read the Inkheart trilogy. Read Elantris by Brandon Sanderson. Read Endymion Spring. Find a story and lose yourself in it.
Watch animated videos and movies you haven't seen. Here's a playlist of animated videos I liked. Pick a few and watch them, and really think about the artwork being created there. http://www.youtube.com/playlist?listLkDDYT9uliZfNKCIelqyVcQO_p_e0O7Jn&feature=mh_lolz

When recently asked how his political candidate would explain certain positions taken during the
nomination process with contrary positions to be taken during the general election, the campaign chief
replied that stated political positions were “like an Etch A Sketch,”—meaning they could simply be
flipped over, erased and begun over from scratch.
Were it that adult life were as simple as a happy Etch A Sketch memory from childhood.
(The campaign chief took heavy heat for his flippant, if truthful, statement.) The incident made
me wonder how many of us had early experiences as “sketch artists” with that incredible red toy that
has become almost standard issue for so many children still to this day.
For those unfamiliar with the magi

Alright, so here we go...
10. Shadow the Hedgehog
I know he's very, very overrated, but I do like him... in Sonic Adventure 2. I don't like him in Shadow the Hedgehog, and I certainly as hell don't like him in Sonic Free Riders and Sonic Generations. I prefer him in Sonic Adventure 2 because he didn't tried too hard to be cool, nor did he acted ridiculously jolly. He was what Sega succeeded to do for him; he was the everything opposite of Sonic. Sonic is cocky and heroic, Shadow's serious and sinister; Sonic has a great and adventurous past, Shadow has a harsh and stressful past. It's too bad that he devolved to an emo-ish character, and then a hedgehog who probably smoked too m

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through dA,
Not a troll was stirring, nor Grinch in his sleigh.
Deviations were hung in digital Galleries with care,
In hopes that +Favourites soon would be there.
The n00bs were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of Daily Deviations danced in their heads.
And Fella in his 'kerchief, and spyed with his night-light,
Had just settled down to log-off for the night,
When over in the Forums there arose such a clatter,
Fella sprang back online to see what was the matter.
To the browser window he flew like a flash,
Tore open the tabs and refreshed the cache.
When what to his art-loving eyes should appear,
But an animated sleigh and eight commissioned reindeer,
With a little old driver, so creative and slick,
Fella knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.
More rapid than broadband, his reindeer were famed,

Notes on Character Design
I received the question pictured below at my tumblr blog. In case it's useful to anyone here, I decided to go ahead and use this otherwise dormant journal to share the article I put together in response.
Character design and drawing are tome-sized topics and even if I had all the answers (I don't - I have a lot to learn), I'm not sure I could communicate them effectively. Here are some thoughts an ideas that might help, though.
First, some general things...
Let some of that anxiety go. This isn't a hard science. There's no wrong way, no rigid process you must adhere to, no shoulds or shouldn'ts except those you designate for yourself. This is one of the fun parts of being an artist, really - have a heady good time with it.

Well hello there Forgotten Mobian Fans! Co-Founder Brodogz here to pass along a little bit of relevant good news coming our way.
Many of us are familiar with the Archie Comic series. It’s been home to a handful of Forgotten Mobians over the years (with a few of them still appearing as recurring characters from time to time).
Well, it’s come to my attention that an upcoming issue in the “Sonic Universe” series will be of particular interest to some of the guys and gals who hang out in this club.
That’s right. Issue 50 is going to be an “Epilogue” to Sonic Underground. This may well be the first time that Manic, Sonia and Aleena make official appearances since the show ended many years ago. The cover is already looking great. It’s an amazing time to be a fan of any of the cast member

I've seen comic how-to-get-started guides before, and they're all so ninny-nippled they word it like anyone can make a comic, wow, so magical and fun!
Wrong. Everyone and their pet dog has a "story" they want to "write" or "make a comic of." Face it, it ain't gonna happen for 99% of us. You gotta have self-discipline and stubbornness to get anything done. And you can't just avoid the stuff that sounds too hard. It's a package deal.
1. Having a character doesn't mean you've done anything. Maybe you've spent a year deciding on the perfect hairstyle and three years before that developing his complex personality, and technically, you spent the entirety of your high school career on him too, since he's a "redesign" of an old fancharacter--who cares! Making characters doesn't take years. In fact, you're hurting your story by keeping characters around for that lon

Part 1: Submitting with POWER
I know there are a million "how to be popular" guides on DA and a million more parody versions of them. This article isn't about becoming popular, or starting drama or racking up pageviews as fast as possible for the sake of seeing a larger number.
This article won't make your art better, or make you more a more popular personality. However, what I've noticed is that many artists are missing out on feedback and exposure that they should be getting if not for a few common mistakes. Time after time, I've read on Artist's Confessions, or just browsing through members' personal journals that their gallery doesn't recieve any traffic and they can't improve because they're not getting any feedback. They feel like their lack of popularity is a personal statement. That their art isn't worth looking at. This is entirely untrue.
Hopefully this will help you, the underexposed artist, to b
