Fabric Stores and AndrocentrismA message from an artist and someone who works at a fabric store: Stop gendering your babies with colour!Fabric Stores and Androcentrism3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Every day I have parents and grandparents-to-be come in and have fabric cut to make quilts, blankets, baby clothes, diapers, curtains, etc for their soon to be newborn. And yet, I'm always asked the same questions over and over:
"What do you have that's for girls?"
"Where is the boys section?"
"We won't know the gender, so we need to keep it neutral until it's born"
And worst of all: "Does this fabric look too girly to you?"
I usually give some sort of half-hearted, "Well, it's your choice, I'm sure they'll love it!" response, but my secret answer is: QUIT IT. No, that fabric is not "too girly". Why would an infant boy care if his pillow has pink flowers on it? Why would a girl care if it has footballs or zoo animals on it? Why are pink and blue so wholeheartedly reserved for girls and for boys that the thought of giving that colour to the other gender is laughable, or worse
My Testimony (The Story of a Cutter)To start off just as all perfect fairytales do, i would say once upon a time, but this is far from a perfect fairytale..My Testimony (The Story of a Cutter)3 years ago in Personal More Like This
A beautiful baby was born with blond hair, fair and untouched skin, blue eyes that had the power to decieve anyone into thinking they could see into your deepest crevices. A sweet and innocent baby. The perfect happy family. The King and Queen and all of their loyal subjects. It was all just the beginning to something amazing.
Sounds like Rapunzel right? wrong.
Well, the baby grew up and went to a small town school and a closley knit church. Everthing was serene and perfect. But no one knew that the baby had grown into a wise, but hurting girl.
She could never be perfect for anyone, was never good enough to please. Until, one day she finally broke through the first barrier of pain. Hiding in a great house's bathroom, she pulled out the knife from under her shirt and mutilated her leg. No one noticed the tears streaming down her face or the blotchy red cheeks. They ju

But I didn't realize I'm now a Senior Member?? wowowow I don't even know who gave that to me, but thank you so much~~ i know it's just a title, but I remember as a kid first on dA I was like "Seniors are so speciallll i want oneeee" xDDDD. And now I'm old and apparently senior enough to be Senior
Uh, here's something I've been working on. Actually, this thing was done back in November though xD;;;.
um, I'll still be busy for a while preparing my portfolio stuff, so I can't guarantee I'll be on dA, but I will be on Tumblr because that's where I post WIPs (and complain about stuff, talk about stuff i don't think making a journal on dA is appropriate for cause i tend to delete my lil rants xD;; ). Does anyone want me to post my WIPs here too? I remember quite a few peopl
Leaving bronydomAfter a tough day, an emotional breakdown, and a bit of contemplation of where I am going with my life. I have decided. Under my pixel artist name, I will consider not doing any more additional pony-related artwork. I am at a point where it is hurting my social life, I am not too happy with being part of this clique, and money in consideration, is not worth the time. I believe this is gonna be the time to let my watchers know - if you are watching me for ponies, I am afraid I have decided it is a necessity to distance myself away from ponies.Leaving bronydom5 months ago in Personal More Like This
Why? Long story.
Well over a year ago, a friend from Sweden was telling me. "Hey, we're coming to a convention that happens to be in the Seattle area!" I joined. People were having a blast, and I was missing out as I had very few people to enjoy the time with. At that point, I had a change of heart. I was no longer happy keeping to myself.
So then, I gave myself a goal, because I was an artist.... why not be a vendor next year? I wanted to be 'out
Square Enix - I applied a couple of years ago. Here's a little personal story for my art friends.Square Enix - I applied a couple of years ago.2 months ago in Personal More Like This
About 3 years ago now I applied on a whim for a position to join the Square Enix Visual Works team in Japan. I expected not to hear anything back. I applied with a nice letter, a link to my folio and a 'top secret' link to copious amounts of NDA work.
I was blown away to get a personal response about 2 or 3 days later from one of the Art Directors on the team.
It was very blunt and very straight forward. He told me that I had a very unique style and that my artwork was great, He loved the heavy, solid feel and saturated colors but he had reservations about how far I could push it towards realtime cinematic work. The exact words he used to describe it was " Imagine an offline rendered character that we see today, we need to see that, modelled and textured in a stylised, fantastical final fantasy way but for use in realtime applications." He went further on to say "The stylisation is in design choices, not materials, which are to be very

FYI My longest post on PC ever. Sorry in advance - OP I hope there's something useful in this for you. I'm back in your thread and giving you my morning before breakfast, is my way of saying ' I care '.
Usually between 1 - 5 NEW students, per day come to me for random pieces of advice. Some from here @ PC , some from Deviant Art - Mostly from Deviant art.
It's always the same questions maybe worded slightly differently and I do my best to answer every single time, every single message. Sometimes I get behind and have to catch up at the end of the week but I do my best.
As well as those, I did 2 10+ question interviews last week, on my time, for students who were still in school. For school essays, papers, projects etc that contain the same questions they always do.
I'm exposed to 'all this' *makes a big circle shape with hands* on a fairly constant basis. Everything that encompasses 'young artists trying to find their way in this scary fucking
The next step.Improving is about not giving up.The next step.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I feel that art is overwhelming, its something so immense, so abstract, so godly that getting remotely close to actually mastering any of its endless nuances feels unobtainable.
At a certain degree it is, but what i have been noticing for the past ...humm... almost two years now... is that, the only way you can climb the next step in this endless staircase is not to give up while you are about to fall from the step you are into.
You are drawing something, and it feels wrong, it feels bad, and you erase it, you draw it again, and it looks even worse and you twist it, bend it, erase it, do it again, then its really horrible, and lastly you say: screw this, i give up, its over, no point because i cant do it.
And you give up on the entire piece, and all the effort, all the struggle, the horror was in vain, went down the drain.
When you are about to do this, don't.
Make it work, whatever it takes, eventually you WILL make it work! And then, oh, it feels gre
Why I Cannot Stand Axis Powers HetaliaEDIT 5/11/2014: Guys. GUYS. STAAAHHHP. This journal is fucking FIVE YEARS OLD, and that's about how old all of you are acting. I would say sorry for ~ruining your life~ by venting about your favorite sparkly animoo, but I'm not. And if your whole identity is really tied up in a fucking fandom, you have serious issues. Seek help. Disabling comments when I can, because whether you're trying to prove some stupid point to me, defend me, or logic this out with me, you're all equally retarded. Go home, boys and girls, show's over! Why I Cannot Stand Axis Powers Hetalia5 years ago in Personal More Like This
So a few friends have been asking me lately what I've got against this inexplicably popular series that seems to have popped up recently called Axis Powers Hetalia. They love it... and I HATE it. Hate it hate it hate it!!! But the mere fact that it fills me with boiling rage everytime I think about it is not a good enough reason for them, so I guess I'll try to piece together why it pisses me off so very much. -I'm- not even entirely sure why I d

Hello my lovely ladies!
Its about time we had another art challenge!
By popular comment vote, we will be re-imagining the Greek Goddesses!
A complete list of all the Greek Goddesses: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Greek_goddesses
There are so many to chose from and all of which are acceptable!
If you are not sure of a Goddess or would like to contribute something slightly different (example: a Medusa themed image) feel free to comment and ask!
The piece only needs to be themed. It does not have to be of the actual Goddess.
HAVE FUN LADIES!
Your deadline is May 1st!

Commission Guidelines*Edit 5/11/14: I have opened up non-food commissions again on a commission by commission basis. This is mostly for things like koi ponds or Altoids ponds. Just note me what you're looking for and I'll see if I can do it!Commission Guidelines3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I do take commissions on my Koi Ponds! Please note me for more information.
Here are some quick and easy steps to make sure the commission process is started quickly and efficiently.
1. Be very specific with what you want. Give me the details about everything you can possibly think of - size, color, type (key chain, necklace, earrings, charms, etc). If it's a character or a type of food, provide me with a link of exactly what you want, or if it's something I've already done in my gallery, just provide me a link with that.
2. All payments must be made up front. No two commissions will cost the same amount; this is because every commission varies, and I take into account the amount of material and time that will go into each one. Once we've hashed out th
Artists of Loreithia - Vol. 9WELCOME TO ARTISTS OF LOREITHIA!Artists of Loreithia - Vol. 95 months ago in Art Features More Like This
Artists of Loreithia is a feature article series featuring artists and artwork from my novel series project Chronicles of Loreithia (otherwise known as Loreithian Chronicles), this article series also doubles as an article series featuring gifts and art for me. As I usually showcase works made for me whether in polls or various journals, I wanted to try and do a more formal series in which I will be publishing once a month whether it would be contest entries, gift art or commissions, anything will be featured as a show of gratitude, of course I cannot feature every single piece an artist creates but you can always find them at LoreithianChronicles or in this folder. So here it is!

Three Worlds Fairytale Contest CommentaryFirst of all, I would like to extend a huge thank you to PiccolaRia and Endorell-Taelos for allowing me to participate in this contest with them. Contests are an amazing thing. They allow you to stretch your artistic skills, taking on subjects and characters you might not otherwise. Of course, there is also the desire to win a prize and/or recognition. I think most of us can say, that even when we do light entries we don't think will win, we have that small hope in our hearts that they will. I think that is the hardest part of being a judge. It's not picking the winning entry, but realizing there will be losing ones; it's hard to know that artists spent time and effort on a piece, pouring their hearts into it, and they will not receive a p

You know, yesterday, after my daily shower, while blowing my hair, I took a pair of scissors and I started cutting my hair without thinking. Yes, it's not like I always think but I had this urgency of changing. And the fact is that I spent the past two years complaining that I wanted/want long hair like Rapunzel... whatever.
I think this is the richest collection of artworks I have ever featured here on dA. It's full of my personal favorite works of 2013 that you may enjoy. Show some love to these amazing artworks and get inspired
Compare yourself to yourselfThere is only one constant in the universe: Change.Compare yourself to yourself1 year ago in Personal More Like This
We all change. Time affects us as much as interactions with objects and people.
You should not compare yourself or your drawings to other people's drawings or another person's self - this will only lead to depression in most cases. Some people are able to look at others and think of it as an aspiration, but most see the distance others have traveled and feel sad that they are not as far along their road.
We should remember that our own road is the only road we should be focusing on. To look back and compare where one has come from is the only way to measure where one is. To measure one's own road compared to another is similar to comparing one's physical appearance to another's. There is very little we can do to make our road like another's, and drawing focus onto their path will distract us from the focus our own path deserves.
To look at another's road (drawing) we should look for things that we wish to incorporate in our own path,
