Massive Art TheftI've dealt with art theft in the past, but usually it's been done by kids who didn't know any better, or from people who just saw my art and decided to use it for a t-shirt or something without asking. Nothing too serious. But this is the first time I've heard of such a giant mainstream art theft scam, and worse yet, it's coming from a rather well known person.
Chad Love Lieberman, nephew of Democratic Presidential Candidate Joseph Lieberman, created a website called Art4life.com which was selling "original" artwork for hundreds to thousands of dollars. The only catch is that the "original" artwork... was all work stolen from other artists, most from here on DA.
Now thankfully the website Art4love.com has been taken down due to copyright infringement. But then almost immediately MakeYourSpot.com was put up with almost the exact same stuff for sale. That site ALSO has been taken down, but with this guy's track record I wouldn't be surprised if another 3rd site came up to compensate.
deviantART's 11th birthdAy approaches! The end of July draws ever near, which means our 11th birthdAy is right around the corner! On August 7, 2011, deviantART will officially celebrate its eleventh year on the Internet. Instead of spending a mere 24 hours observing this holiday, we're taking one whole week to show our love and appreciation to the community.deviantART's 11th birthdAy approaches!3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Starting on August 1st, we'll be hosting Deviants Appreciation Week, a full 7 days of events leading up to the big 1-1 on Sunday, August 7th. During this time, we'll be having parties in dAmn and in the Forums, contests and games galore, and super special announcements sprinkled throughout the week. We've got something festive planned each day as our way of giving back to the amazing community we're proud to serve everyday.
For a taste of what's to come:
We're starting the week off by honoring one super deviant with the monthly Deviousness award and one of our own with the yearly Bolt Award. And, jus
deviantPOINTS: An updateOver the past few months we’ve been keeping a watchful eye on the way that members in our community have been offering points as payment for certain types of services within deviantART. We’ve seen all sorts of creative uses, from offering to critique your work for a few points, journal features for a few more points and my personal fav -- avatars, journal skins and any other sort of art commission for points. It’s been great to see deviants use their experience and skills to fund their super group upgrades, prints purchases and even treating their friends and families to their very first item of deviantWEAR.deviantPOINTS: An update3 years ago in Personal More Like This
As time rolled on, we noticed a new trend creeping in. People were not just offering a small number of points for a task that they’d normally do as part of their daily deviating -- people were offering thousands of page views for hundreds of points, and there seemed to be no limit to the amount that could be purchased, or offered. Internet TimeWe had the Oscars recently and as usual it wasn't without problems. One of the controversies was Chris Rock's biting commentary about doing voice work for animated films, which was unfortunately insulting to the many hard working (yet perpetually unknown) talents who produce about 90% of all voice work in the animated medium. Chris Rock's joke was funny for his circle of friends and the aging academy, but to younger artists and professionals it was very disrespectful. Voice actress Tara Strong took particular issue with Rock's comment and as we speak his twitter account is no doubt being flooded with angry hate messages and likely racism too... which is very unfortunate. http://www.examiner.com/african-american-entertainment-in-national/tara-strong-attacks-chris-rock-over-oscar-2012-animation-comments-quotesInternet Time2 years ago in Personal More Like This

In high pressure situations if I start stressing I will think what is the worst that could happen and how could I bounce back from that. Once I see that I would still be ok and be able to come back from that difficulty... then the stress disappears. Then I start imagining what would it feel like to be successful and that gets me excited to continue towards my goals.
Stress is something that everyone deals with in their own ways but if you don't have an effective way to deal with it, feel free to try my method.
Facebook Art Theft AppThere's a facebook app which essentially takes comics from around the web and puts them all together in one place. However, it bypasses links to the original source material and even worse it encourages users to donate to the creator of the app.Facebook Art Theft App3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Essentially this guy is making money off us web comic creator's hard earned work that we normally give away for free.
Links for the people who want to stay more informed: http://team4d.deviantart.com/journal/A-NEW-KIND-OF-ART-THEFT-WEB-ARTISTS-BEWARE-278974603 http://www.korybing.com/post/15704334457/choochoobear-thunt-of-the-webcomic-goblins
I've reblogged this on tumblr and made a post about it on facebook. Please try to spread the word about this if you can.
EDIT: The app's name is not Something Positive. That's actually one of the comics the app is stealing from. Apparently the app changes it's name depending on the comic it's ripping off. There are about 161 web artists (not all necessarily comic related) who's work are being misused.
100 Design Theme ListFinished this up over my vacation, and now it's going live after much rearranging and editing of the official list.100 Design Theme List3 years ago in Personal More Like This
100 design themes.
Words consist of adjectives that describe both physical and personality traits, others are color combinations, and a few are simple open ended names/titles. For each of these, the challenge is to design a character, creature, race, costume design, or whatever else strikes your fancy. Work in order, pick and choose, the idea is to have fun and expand your creature design work.

The Derpy Issue Part 4 (final)Alright, so now we get to the crux of the matter. Hasbro has finally made a statement:The Derpy Issue Part 4 (final)2 years ago in Personal More Like This
"The 'My Little Pony Friendship is Magic' series has always been about acceptance and inclusion, and the series strives to convey that through the playful antics of a diverse cast of characters. Some viewers felt that aspects of the episode 'The Last Roundup' did not stay true to the core message of friendship which is the heart and soul of the series. Hasbro Studios decided to make slight audio alterations to this single episode."
NOW would be the appropriate time to start getting all freaked out over this issue. Personally, I am not going to worry too much. I am disheartened that they've chosen to respond this way, but I am not surprised. Hasbro is a corporation, they have to think of their image. "Derpy" is a debatable term that can either mean "goofy and silly" or "insulting towards disabled people" and frankly I agree that this is not an appropriate word to be used for a kids TV show
TAD: Making It RightHere's an update about the royalties situation:TAD: Making It Right1 year ago in Personal More Like This
John English over at TAD stepped up and did the right thing by sending me a check for my royalties, which I have already received and banked.
He also gave me his word that he would be taking care of the other artists royalties who were wronged as well.
Whether that happens or not remains to be seen, but he called me not long after I made my post wanting to know what he could do.
John said he didn't think people should get credit for doing the right thing and I agreed. But I still want to take the time to flesh this out a little because I want to keep my side of the street clean and because there's a lot of confused, angry, hurt, people.
Justified or not; dropping this nuke hurt TAD and TAD isn't only populated by the people who wronged me; it's comprised of people *just like me* trying to make a living in art.
I was wronged, but TAD isn't some cartoon villain plotting to suck the life-force from hapless artists; no one goes into business
Do Not EngageThis is a notice to all my fans.Do Not Engage1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Since I've returned to making SYAC again there's been a bit of a resurgence of trolls. There are a lot of fake accounts floating around out there with my name attached, and many of them are posting alternate SYAC strips and my old fetish work. While they are fairly obvious to spot, just to be safe I am writing to remind everyone that these accounts are not mine.
DeviantArt has made it more complicated to report copyright infringement issues, and I simply don't have the time to sift through the troll's gallery of re-uploads, find the original URL's (if any even exist anymore), and file DMCA on each and every post. It takes weeks to get anything accomplished and it wastes the time of DA moderators who have to sift through those individual reports. And even if I am successful in getting the troll banned, they'll just create a second account and come right back with another bucketload of altered art and start all over again. That's wasted time and e

Watch this advertisement against same-sex marriage in Washington State.
I have no words.
Okay, actually, I do have some words about the ad.
Same-sex marriage (aka MARRIAGE) is the topic here, in response to an advertisement by the folks against R-74 that was shared by a relative of mine. . The ad was full of just so much… so much bull. I had to write a 4 page long answer to it.
-"Marriage is rooted in biological facts of nature." By that argument, so is polygamy, cannibalism, and murder.
-Sexual behaviour is not the same thing as sexual orientation. A study by the New York City Dept of Health and Mental Hygiene reported in 2006 that: "Of the straight-identified men, 9.4% reported having sexual intercourse with at least 1 man (and no women) in the year before the survey." They also reported, "Approximately 70% of straight-identified men who have sex with men reported being married."

God has a plan for you. Yes, he has a plan, and people like Rick Santorum and Richard Mourdock have a special power that allows them to know what God's plan is - not only for them, but for hundreds of millions of complete strangers. And thanks to this special magical power that God has bestowed supposedly only to them, they are able to tell you that if you are raped and get pregnant, you shouldn't abort it - because it was God's plan.
You see, I find it absolutely wonderful that if, indeed, there is some sort of magical deity out there that poofed everything into existence about 6,000 years ago, that particular being also chooses political teams in US politics. Like, who knew? I thought Israel was supposed to be the magically God-approved nation, but somewhere along the line the US somehow became "God

Hyping It Up Before It Exists
A lot of people will put up promotional artwork, covers, character references, and other related work for their comic before putting up a single page. People often say if you want to write a book or you want to lose weight, it's best that you not tell anyone. When you tell someone you plan on doing something, they will praise you for it. The problem is, you are now receiving praise for something you haven't actually done yet. You don't have to work for that praise; the mere act of saying you will do something rewards you the same external way you would get for actually doing it. Sadly the result is many people are content to stop there. It's not even a conscious decision, but a lot of people will get caught up in the hype without realizing how hard making a comic actually is. Hold off putting up anything related to your comic until you at least have a few pages up; it wil

When I was pregnant with my first child, I just thought that circumcision was what you did, no big deal, and that every man was circumcised. Then one day I saw a picture of a baby being circumcised, and everything changed. Just one tiny, grainy photo was enough to make me want to know more, and the more I knew, the worse it got. It turns out, circumcision really is a big deal.
Part 1 - Circumcision Surgery Myths
Myth 1: They just cut off a flap of skin.
Reality check: Not true. The foreskin is half of the penis's skin, not just a flap. In an adult man, the foreskin is 15 square inches of skin. In babies and children, the

Myth #1: You have to get the baby circumcised because it is really hard to keep a baby's penis clean.
Reality check: In babies, the foreskin is completely fused to the head of the penis. You cannot and should not retract it to clean it, as this would cause the child pain, and is akin to trying to clean the inside of a baby girl's vagina. The infant foreskin is perfectly designed to protect the head of the penis and keep feces out. All you have to do is wipe the outside of the penis like a finger. It is harder to keep circumcised baby's penis clean because you have to carefully clean around the wound, make sure no feces got into

A relative got a message through the door over Christmas. It was an envelope containing what looked like a page torn out of a magazine. The recipient's name was hand-written on the page as part of a note, singing the praises of the product, how they had tried it, etc. The whole thing was a fake, a very, very clever one, perhaps obvious to the more media-savvy out there, but it caused said relative a bit of head-scratching.
A less obvious ad which has come to my attention is a viral video. It's a montage of CCTV footage that captures a number of people being nice to one another. Hugs, kisses, people helping one another. It'd be a great feel-good clip if it weren't for the fact it's a viral for Coke that plays on your emotions in an effort to peddle their sugar-laced-discharge: http:/

Let's just go over what I posted yesterday: I voiced that I have no opinion on guns in America, because I don't live there and as such; don't care. I said that I, personally, am afraid of guns and think they're industrial killing machines. And I posed a vague, hypothetical question that could have been applied to any situation where an old law/doctrine is in effect.
That's it. Nothing more. Harshest word in there was "change" followed by a question mark. Not "ban", not "make guns illegal" and certainly not "outlaw free speech and trial by jury", which some people with a slightly looser grasp on reality seem to think go hand in hand with owning the firearms I said I don't care about.
Well, today, I am going to post an opinion: if you're the kind of insecure, paranoid little twit that flies off the handle when someone poses a simple question, and who holds weapons and the laws that permit them with such religious reverence that you perceive that question as not

It make's Jesus Camp look absolutely harmless. Oh yeh and they specifically target non-christian children between the ages of 4 and 12 ; or children who aren't the "right type" of Christian.
Make sure you watch the whole thing. It isn't lying. It is all factual. This is what these "school clubs" actually teach to children right after the last bell rings... in public schools. You may have to pause the video in some areas to read what it says.
Their curriculum is so terrifyingly horrendous that it nearly brings me to tears at the thought of any child having to hear these things f
