Thanks everyone! Check back next week for a new contest!
Giveaway #25 is now CLOSED, we'll upload a new journal next friday for #26!
First off, we just wanted to say that our hearts go out to the friends and families of those poor kids (and adults). What happened today was a terrible, terrible thing. I have no idea what went through that person's head that made him want to do that, but our deepest condolences go out to those involved in the shooting.
Please be sure to tell your loved ones how much they mean to you.
And yes, we are back to giving away a free key. This week we will be giving away two free keys to one person. The catch is, you have to give away the second key to someone else! A friend, a family member, etc. Because it's the holidays and giving is a wonderful thing
Please be sure to say who you're going to give the second key to! If you post your comment and forgot to post who the second one is going to

Daily Features - Oct + Nov 2011On my profile page, I feature a new deviation every day. The piece is usually something that caught my eye. Could be an amazing digital painting, a fun stamp, a quick photograph that made me smile, perhaps a piece for a weekly theme, whatever. However, it moved me enough to share it with my visitors. Below is a list of the artists which I featured over the past month. I am showcasing different pieces from their gallery in the hope of showing them a bit more love. Charity and KeysHey everyone!Charity and Keys2 years ago in Personal More Like This
We just wanted to give a huge thanks for everyone who participated in the Ebay auction, thanks to one very generous individual we were able to donate $710 to Kids Against Hunger!
The generosity was extraordinary, I'm not sure if the winner has a DA account but if you do we are more than happy to feature you
This Friday we'd like to continue to promote giving for the holidays, most likely we'll be giving away 2 free keys on DA instead of 1, but the catch is, if you win you have to give one of the keys to another person (friends, family, strangers you meet in the park who try to get you to go with them in their white van) etc.
So keep an eye out and be sure to read the instructions on this week's Free Key Giveaway on Friday You'll have to state who you'll be giving the other key to (no, they don't have to have a DA and no we won't drive to your house if you win and make sure you give it to them. We aren't creepy like that. At least most of us aren't.

Korrasami is Canon: ConfirmedAvatar series creators Bryan Konietzko and Mike DiMartino both confirmed today via their personal blogs that Avatar Korra and Asami are actually a romantic bisexual couple.Korrasami is Canon: Confirmed4 days ago in Personal More Like This
I’ve taken a lot of heat over the past couple of days for celebrating the ending as being very progressive. A lot of people seemed quite adamant that Korra and Asami were just good friends and there was nothing romantically intentional about the ending at all. Some even going so far to say that my comment about the bi-sexual flag colored mountains was “reading too much into it.”
But y’all can suck it now! Cuz it’s CONFIRMED!
And if you’re just being lazy and don’t wanna read those excellently written blog posts, here’s a couple choice snippets:

Art in Contemplation of Its Own BecomingDuchamp finds a discarded urinal. He alters it (by signing a name to it not even his own, but obviously “the artist’s”) and names it “The Fountain”. The most mundane, even off-putting, of objects is transformed by Duchamp into art. He submits it for exhibition and it is rejected. You might say the judges “pissed on” his idea. But the idea was born and persisted. Duchamp insisted the object was art because he as an artist presented it as such. “Conceptual Art” was born.Art in Contemplation of Its Own Becoming3 years ago in Personal More Like This

TO ALL THOSE WHO COME HERE TO COMMENT AND HATE ON HOMESTUCK: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0la5DBtOVNI
I've been noticing that in all a those 'Bad fantroll blogs', most a the fantrolls that are put up there are those that either have 50% - 100% colored hair, a huge fashion sense that exceeds Kanaya's somehow and/or they have mutant/rainbow blood.
Now, if any Homestucker out has READ ALL THE ACTS, INCLUDING THE INTERMISSION, they will CLEARLY RECALL THAT TROLLS DO NOT HAVE OVERLY COLORED HAIR/CLOTHES/BLOOD.
In fact, in Troll Society, it is considered a DEATH WISH to wear clothing that isn't at least 15% black/grey (Meaning that the shirt MUST BE BLACK SO THAT YOU CAN SEE WHAT THE SYMBOL AND IT'S COLOR IS or else it will seem like you're trying to trick other trolls into b
The Pitfalls of Speed PaintingI've been meaning to write about this for a while now, but recently a video popped on up Ctrl+Paint about the same topic and it encouraged me to finally talk about it. It's a practice that's been misconstrued and misunderstood for a while now, so I wanted to help people get a proper understanding on the subject. The Pitfalls of Speed Painting3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Speed painting has been something of a fad for 4 or 5 years now, even back when I was first starting digital work. Like many artists out there, I thought, "Sweet, I can do really cool work, really fast!" And like many artists out there, in the back of my head I was probably thinking, "This is easier than learning the normal way!"
Well, here's the main problem in regards to speed painting. Any of those really cool, realistic and well done speed paintings you see are done by professionals who have been painting for years and years. These a

This week, Khader Adnan entered his third month of a hunger strike
against his unlawful detention and mistreatment at the hands of the Israeli military.
The deafening silence by world leaders and media at his plight shames us all.

Somewhere in the Middle East, a 33-year old man is today entering the 60th day of a hunger strike.
He is currently lying as he has done for weeks with one hand, and one leg,
shackled to his hospital bed. By the time you read this, he could be dead.
Of course, had he been an Iranian opposition journalist,

7 Tips To Instantly Become A Better ArtistPractice, practice, practice. Gah.7 Tips To Instantly Become A Better Artist3 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Attend life drawing classes over the summer. Blegh.
Take a sketchbook with you everywhere you go, and fill up ten of those bad boys at the coffee shop. Pfft.
Let's be honest here. We all want to become better artists, like, right frickin' now. We don't even want to have to suffer through hour-long tutorials of some pompous snooty hack bloviating over the intricate methods of drawing eyes on YouTube. We want progress, we want improvement, and we want it on our desk in ten minutes ago!
Fine, fine, I hear ya'. While these aren't going to make an instant Leonardo da Vinci out of you, these might get you up to...ehh...Basquiat caliber. Sure, I've made tutorials, but those are more about setting up Photoshop for the sake of coloring an image, and not so much building yourself artistically. Those are more technical lessons. Artistically

The Serenely Powerful Art of `yuumei
In the top half of an hourglass, a polar bear and her cub perch perilously atop a wedge of melting ice, its dripping water becoming the "sand" that is inexorably drowning an urban couch potato figure in the hourglass's bottom chamber. The beautiful yet arresting digital painting is "Countdown" by yuumei and it is currently one of the most popular pieces on deviantART. It is "archetypal yuumei" in its perfectly balanced blending of a striking lyrically beautiful visual with an underlying urgent social or political message.
Her specialty is digital art in an anime style, but she often employs traditional watercolors and other elements. Her cause is saving and preserving what's left of the Earth's wildlife and its environment; she donates large portions of profits from her artworks to a host of wildlife and environmental organizations and urges all deviants and others to do the same. But what has really been her stand-out achievem
Frozen WON? Best Animated Picture?I hate the Oscars for a variety of reasons, but last night we got more proof about how little respect and decision making actually goes into things. Frozen, as you might know by now, won “Best Animated Picture.” But what you may not know is that only some the people voting had actually SEEN the movie, or for that matter, ANY of the animated films listed in the Best Animated Picture category.Frozen WON? Best Animated Picture?10 months ago in Personal More Like This
The Hollywood Reporter was able to get a few quotes from academy members who were voting for various categories (specifically best animated) and here are some of the results:
1. I have seen none of them. I have no interest whatsoever. That ended when I was 6. My son dragged me to a few when he was 6; I would seat him and go outside and make phone calls. My pick: I abstain.
2. I thought Frozen was amazing, and my personal favorite was Despicable Me 2, but I didn’t see all of the nominees, so I didn’t vote. My Pick: I abstained.
3. I don’t see much of a co

Living Rainbow Taking Flight
The vibrant digital paintings of alicexz are fiery, emotional, and incredibly memorable.
The colors of her creations (mostly portraits of popular TV and Film characters) are unusually vibrant, which is remarkable considering how layered they appear to be. It’s sort of like what manga characters might look like if painted by one of the Dutch Masters. And this artist exhibits just the right amount of quirkiness to leave us wanting to know more: she has a penchant for painting redheads. But, then of course, there’s a lot of red and golden fire burning through most her artworks.
