Is Tolerance Tolerant? Its possible, I hope at least, to have a discussion with point and counter point without the need to become enemies. Is Tolerance Tolerant?3 years ago in Personal More Like This
How many times has someone silenced you with a simple offhanded reiteration of 'That wasn't very tolerant'?
Strange how tolerance sometimes becomes the byword of intolerance: namely censoring opposing positions without any due consideration.
Now not everyone uses 'tolerance' in this way. We all grew up learning tolerance was a good thing and that people should be accepted just the way they are. Its a good thing, definitionally, that you seek to act in a moral and friendly fashion and encourage that behavior in others by calling their attention to speaking out in anger or being unjust to others.
'Everyone is entitled to their opinions' is taken at face value as undeniable fact, yes? Of course. We're all well bred people who wouldn't dream of imposing ourselves on others.
Or would we?
This 'tolerance' and 'equality of opinion' stops dead in the mind of many for people w

The Photomanipulation Legends series seeks to bring you up close and personal with outstanding artists who have blazed trails in the photomanipulation community. Their galleries are bold and unique, newsworthy and trendsetting. They are often imitated but never duplicated. Tonight, and without further ado, I am really honored to present fensterer.
Hi, Phil! So, I feel like you’re one of the best kept secrets in the photomanipulation community! You’ve been with us for more than 7 years, but I’ve always found you to be quite modest and supportive of other artists rather than tooting your own horn. I really wanted to give you an opportunity to tell us some more about yourself. So, do you want to give us a quick overview of who you are?
Thanks. Yeah, I have been around a while. I am a graphic artist in Dallas, TX. I have been creating digital art for over a decade now. Professionally, I work fo

I am the prostitute working the streets because nobody will hire a transsexual woman.
I am the sister who holds her gay brother tight through the painful, tear-filled nights.
We are the parents who buried our daughter long before her time.
I am the man who died alone in the hospital bacause they would not let my partner of twenty-seven years into the room.
I am the foster child who wakes up with nightmares of being taken away from the two fathers who are the only loving family I have ever had. I wish they could adopt me.
I am one of the lucky ones, I guess. I survived the attack that left me in a coma for three weeks, and in another year I will probably be able to walk again.
I am not one of the lucky ones. I killed myself just weeks before graduating high

Also, uh. Does anyone else ever have a lot of inspiration only on certain days of the month? Or am I weird? :/
Also, if you are a watcher and I didn't feature you in the last watcher feature, would you let me know so I can add you next time? /I fail

I hate the way the world has changed and you can't go anywhere with your best friend without people thinking your some gay couple. Actually its worse! I can't even go with my brother anywhere without people thinking we are a gay couple. Hey we just so happen to like to go see the movies at theaters, or go eat somewhere. Where we grew up that was just what hetero guys do, and brothers got along with each other. I don't know why all of a sudden people think only gay people do that.
I also hate it when people assume I'm gay because I don't have a girl friend. I mean what the F#&*$#!!? Just because I'm not sucking on a girl don't mean I am gay. I don't suck on a guy either. I'm not interested in sexual trends at all. The reason I don't go out with a girl is

My MALE cat has adopted kittens?! o-OIts so strange! And yet so endearing. Skittles, my sweet and precious cat who I love like my own son, is acting like such a father to four kittens. My MALE cat has adopted kittens?! o-O2 years ago in Personal More Like This
As some of you know, a neighborhood female named Twilight had kittens awhile back. When they were first born skittles seemed interested, but didn't do much. He would, however, stay around like he was on guard duty. He was protective, let Twilight on his territory, and seemed oddly...concerned. I had never heard of a male taking care of another cat's kittens.
They cannot possibly be Skittles kittens, he was fixed, although he is an outside cat. At least we were TOLD he was fixed since we got him from a shelter.
As the kittens got older and big enough, the mother has started hissing, driving them away and letting them know its time to move on. So they moved into our yard. But now...Skittles is still protecting them. o-o To the point of chasing the MOTHER off so that the kittens can come out! She keeps hissing and batting at them, but he's alw

My Deviantart Story : How DA changed my lifeHi there, and first of all happy 14th birthday DA !My Deviantart Story : How DA changed my life5 months ago in Personal More Like This
Well, it's time to tell you about my story here, and how everything started. I joined way back 2003, and have been an active member since then (I became a senior in 2007).
It all really started thanks to Ashlie devildoll who introduced me to the site and conviced me to create an account though I was a complete beginner. I never did photomanipulation before joining Deviantart, and as soon as I joined, I felt the urge to create. I was sort of amazed by the art of aleksandra ladymorgana and furiouskitten and instantly knew that I had to try.
Way back then, (I was unemployed at that time), I used to create an artwork per day (now I am happy enough to create a personal artwork per month). And I practiced a lot. I learnt so much from all the tutorials, from the comments and feedback, and managed to create some interesting pieces (after some
Fast lane to becoming a better artist.I often get this very question: How did you get this good this fast?Fast lane to becoming a better artist.10 months ago in Personal More Like This
Now as I consider myself not being as good as people tell me, even struggling quite often with being an artist in general.
I do know how to get better and how to reach it fast. I'm still growing as I go and it's the main thing that keeps me going.
You need to get into the right mindset and the rest will follow. With the rest I mean:
3. Positive energy.
4. The NEED to draw.
Seeing growth in your work gives you the courage to work harder. You know that feeling when you're just about done with an image
and feel like this image is better than your last one, that great feeling. Use it!
Do studies! Lots of them!! Make film shot studies, live object studies, master-painting studies. They will teach you a lot about composition, lighting, colors, shapes storytelling etc.
You will hardly notice that you are learning thing

Ok, here we go...
Here's something I came by, while
skulking around dA. I've seen it before
but it really got my attention just now..
Looks kinda like fun :/
at least until I get tired of it
I invite all of you to try it...
I'll cheat! I'll include older works if
they fit the description!
but the rest that will follow will be new
artworks, made for this purpose only!
And, I'm changing some because there
are quite a few which are too
similar, if not repetetive...
and I believe that the original list was
rather haphazardly put together...
and some of the items would be rather
boring to draw...

Get Better At Drawing (Without Drawing Anything)Art is a process.Get Better At Drawing (Without Drawing Anything)4 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Like that of the scientific method and philosophical alchemy, art can be refined and improved through process. From observation, to experiment, to reflection and conclusion, art is improved by the steps we make towards change, not solidification and stagnation. Much of the advice out there for drawing is simply practice or avoid distractions. This advice is good, but there is more to creation than just throwing yourself mindlessly into a task and avoiding bad habits along the way. Good habits and knowledge will help to excel your learning process faster, and from that, improve faster and more effectively.
Look at it
As an artist, observation is key. The skill we develop is not just seeing, but interpreting what we see, remembering what we have seen and recording it in the form of visual art. This is a skill that, aside from blindness or vision degradation, you will be able to improve during your entire life. The way of seeing from an art

This article strives to shed some light on this rule as well as on how to use lines and shapes in your compositions to lead the viewer's eye to the important bits. Rule of Thirds
Thankfully this time, there are no hours upon hours of dry reading to be done because the Rule of Thirds itself can be explained rather easily:
"The Rule of Thirds states that an image should be imagined as divided into nine equal parts by two equally-spaced horizontal lines and two equally-spaced vertical lines, and that important compositional elements should be placed along these lines or their intersections." (from the wikipedia article)

A lot of people want to learn to draw and paint better but they just don't know where to start. You don't need an expensive art course to learn and progress, sometimes the answers are not far away. On DeviantArt, artists not only share their artworks but many of them are willing to share their working secrets, they create tutorials and FAQ journals or simply answer to your notes if you ask them. When you know what you want to improve, searching for a good tip gets even easier.
