Hyrule Gets ‘Game of Thrones’ Intro Treatment
Some amazing artists put together this animated sequence, which mimics the opening credits of Game of Thrones, except with a map of Hyrule from The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. We have to give some major props for this video’s uncanny ability to make us feel incredible amounts of GoT-related excitement for this weekend as well as mist

First of all, we want you to know that you can believe everything you read here, even if it is April Fool’s and we might have told a fib or two elsewhere on the site. Consider the News Desk a hallowed ground. We’ll only tell you true facts here. We are indeed going to show you some of our favorite April Fool’s pranks from around DeviantArt and around the web, but we won’t try to fool you with any of these headlines. Thanks, as always, for r

BronyCon WrapUp!Now that I am actually able to sit down without either somewhere to be or passing out, it is about time I wrote up about BronyCon.BronyCon WrapUp!1 year ago in Personal More Like This
It was awesome.
Now, BronyCon is only my second MLP con ever, with my first being MLP-MSP, which was comparatively small (yet a lot of fun as well). Nonetheless, I still call it the best con ever.
The panel was on Sunday @ 1:45pm in the Hall of the Moon. Even with the hall's large size, we filled the majority. On the panel was ata64, The4thaggie, Tohino, BeardedDoomGuy and myself. We started with a intro video showing some of the various works we have done. Afterwards, we talked a bit about what we do and how we do it. We left the majority of the time open for questions, which was good as there was a lot of them. Towards the end, the questions were cut (sadly) short so that we could show the Fallout video I have been working on nearly forever. Afterward, I got to talk to some of

Hard SF Feature 03: Rhys TaylorContinuing my feature on Hard SF art, today featuring Rhys Taylor.Hard SF Feature 03: Rhys Taylor11 months ago in Personal More Like This
This series features artists whose work is grounded in hard science, and one cannot get more grounded in science than Blender artist Rhys Taylor, astrophysicist, Arecibo galaxy hunter, currently hailing from the Astronomical Institute, Prague.
When I started researching Project Orion after reading George Dyson’s book on the topic* one of the first things I came across was Rhys Taylor’s now famous youtube video Project Orion: A Re-Imagining. At the time I never dreamed that one day I would be brainstorming nuclear pulse propulsion concepts with Rhys1, nor did I imagine that my nuclear pulse propulsion art would play a role, albeit a small role2, the larger contribution being made by Winchell Chung, who provided Rhys with early concept art for the Discovery spacecraft from Arthur C. Clarke and

A word about the state of 2DAfter hearing about Disney gutting their 2D theatrical animation department, I think I've finally realised something. 2D isn't dying everywhere it's only dying in the North America's Theatrical movies. 2D is pretty much everywhere else in the world. Japan is still putting out several 2D TV shows and theatrical films, 2D is still big in TV animation (Even more bigger than CGI, since 2D is easier to achieve on a TV budget), and it's huge on the internet, serval shorts while made in adobe flash still use the frame by frame techniques of classic 2D animation. And it is possible for independent studios to make 2D animated films, recently the web series Dick Figures started a Kickstarter and managed to get enough money to produce a movie based on the series, in fact I think they're getting close to finishing it now. So in conclusion 2D is only dying when it comes to theatrical animation in North America, it's alive and well everywhere else and if we want to bring it back to North AmerA word about the state of 2D3 years ago in Personal More Like This

Today, I write about how you can ponify your profile When I saw Derpy hovering on leKelBel's profile page, I thought I had overdosed on Ponies But she linked me to StevenRoy's explanation, who points to Fli-c's Journal Entry with detailed instructions. Here is the short version: Click on some widget on your profile page where you can add a description and type in one or more of the following codes:

My Deviantart Story : How DA changed my lifeHi there, and first of all happy 14th birthday DA !My Deviantart Story : How DA changed my life1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Well, it's time to tell you about my story here, and how everything started. I joined way back 2003, and have been an active member since then (I became a senior in 2007).
It all really started thanks to Ashlie AshlieNelson who introduced me to the site and conviced me to create an account though I was a complete beginner. I never did photomanipulation before joining Deviantart, and as soon as I joined, I felt the urge to create. I was sort of amazed by the art of aleksandra ladymorgana and furiouskitten and instantly knew that I had to try.
Way back then, (I was unemployed at that time), I used to create an artwork per day (now I am happy enough to create a personal artwork per month). And I practiced a lot. I learnt so much from all the tutorials, from the comments and feedback, and managed to create some interesting pieces (after some
Get Well Soon Occasionally one of my awesome friends does something so freaking cool that I simply cannot go without sharing it, despite my borderline neurotic aversion to content aggregation. So, without further ado, allow me to present you with this incredibly surreal animated storyboard; it goes without saying, but I am anticipating great things from this artist in the future; you should definitely keep an eye on her:Get Well Soon10 months ago in Personal More Like This

Orion: Nuclear Pulse PropulsionThis essay owes a debt of gratitude to Winchell Chung for his Atomic Rockets website, for the wealth of information to be found there. [Tutorial] Getting Started With IrayIntroduction[Tutorial] Getting Started With Iray9 months ago in Personal More Like This
Here is the tutorial on YouTube.
Here is a .pdf version.
This is for those of you who are looking at the interface going, "Now what?" This covers how to convert existing shaders and how to set up lighting for your render.
This is a text version that, while different from what I'm saying in the video word by word, contains the same information.
To use this you need DAZ Studio 4.8 Pro or later.
Part 1: The Environment and Camera Settings
Before we get started, we need to check the environment, camera and render settings.
The Render Settings tab has an Editor and an Advanced section. Advanced is where you check or uncheck your CPU and graphics cards. I render with just my cards most of the time, and if you have good cards with lots of CUDA

I ran into this stuff while working on something else, and thought it was interesting enough to be worth sharing. I may or may not do a longer article on this at some point; getting more information on this is likely to be very difficult, given that the US government holds this stuff pretty close to its chest (as it should).
So what, exactly, is a third-generation nucl
3D Printing with Bees3D Printing with Bees1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
How awesome is this? Dewar's (the whiskey brand) created an ad campaign that used bees as a "3D printer" ...or as they called it "3-B printing." They created shells of the sculpture they wanted to create and let 80,000 bees loose inside of it. Over time, the bees created beautiful honeycomb sculptures.
Nice work Dewar's and the agencies behind the campaign, Sid Lee New York and The Ebeling Group!

Welcome, to steampunk.
1. What is steampunk?
Steampunk is a retro-active subgenre of science fiction that incorporates elements of historical fiction, adventure, horror, speculative fiction, fantasy and alternative history. It exists as a hybrid genre that focuses on a re-imagining of the Industrial revolution when men and women create analog machines to achieve the fullest of human potential. Usually set in Victorian England during the mid- to late-1800’s or the American “Wild West” era, this genre incorporate the spirit of Jules Verne and H. G. Wells in their setting and general mood as well as the new-found relationship between man and his machine.
Steampunk has since become an aesthetic movement, sparking off subcultures that focus on visual art, comics, music, clothing, accessories and “custom mods” where modern-day m
