Character: Meru
Series: Legend of Dragoon

This costume has been a dream cosplay of mine, ever since I first played the game, when I was in middle school. I took a great deal of care in considering my material choices, so that they would be reflective of the Legend of Dragoon aesthetic, but also reflect the fact that Meru is a dancer. I used a combination of vinyl, fake leather, and casa satin. All of the details are satin stitched on to create a more polished appearance. This cosplay was my first adventure in learning to satin stitch and I learned quite a bit, while doing it.

I ended up not being very pleased with the red contacts I received in the mail, and thought they were too harsh/fake for a whimsical character like Meru. I found a nicer pair that I plan on ordering. My hammer is also currently in the works, so hopefully next time I wear this cosplay I'll be 100% wingly-fied ^_~

The second time I wore this costume at Katsucon I had my giant hammer prop, which made this costume more fun to wear. The head of the hammer is lightweight and made out of corrugated cardboard, expanding foam, paper mache. Paper mache and craft foam were used for the raised details.

I couldn't help myself and just had to put this photo up. I love the setting in this image to bits. I think it reflects the Legend of Dragoon aesthetic and it was even brought to my attention that this is like the town of Fletz, especially with the light reflected off the water.

Costume and make up: Made and done by me

It is super difficult for me to choose what Rydia photos to upload to by Deviantart gallery. There are so many I love! I guess if I ever have a website for my cosplay, I'll have more than enough for my Rydia cosplay XD; I love this shot that Darkain Multimedia took of me. You can also see my new Rydia headpiece in this photo : ] I have a couple more Rydia photos that I'm waiting on. I may upload one more, but I'm trying not to flood my gallery with so much Rydia.

The Legend of Dragoon was one of the last PlayStation 1 games that I ever played. I had to take a picture of this!

Character: Freya
Series: Chobits
Photo taken by Anna Fischer at Katsucon 2012

I asked Anna if we could do a shot showcasing my bustle because you really don't get to see it in most photos. I really love the result we came up with.

I've had my eye on this Freya costume for quite a while. Compared to other Chobits designs, it's a relatively simple costume, but I liked the elegant regal vibe and thought this costume would be lovely in the Katsucon venue space.

Everything, excluding the bustle, is made from casa satin. The bootslip covers were by far the most aggravating things to create for this costume. The covers were divided into several pieces. Due to the ribbon detail on the sides, I decided I did not want a seam going up the front, so I referred to a pair of boots I own in order to figure out how I wanted to create the covers. I ended up deciding to create a shoe part of the cover, including a piece to go around the heels of the shoes to be worn underneath the covers, and the pieces for the legs, which were sewn together.

I ended up having to fabric paint all the lace for this costume. Apparently, black lace is scary because I could not find any at the fabric store I liked and because my budget was tight I had to coupon like crazy for this costume, so buying lace online was not an option for me. Coupons are your friends!

It was interesting figuring out how to translate the bustle into reality. The way CLAMP drew it in the artwork had an appearance of a flat lace panel, but I figured that would be too limp. In the end, I ended up being inspired by some tulle burlesque bustles and tried to execute mine in a similar fashion.

The crown is my favorite part. It was created using casting epoxy, which was poured into a mold that I had created, after sculpting a crown out of clay. Any imperfections were simply sanded off using a dremel tool and some sand paper. Afterwards, I was able to paint it gold, using acrylics. The "fur" is a black fuzzy feather trim, which was glued on. In order for the crown to stay in place, it was simply sewn to my wig. The hair beads were also created using the same casting technique.

The ears were created using a paper mache and paper clay method. They started out as corrugated cardboard with paper mache, as the base, which was built on top of with paper clay. A bit of sanding later, I was able to paint them white and pink with acrylics. For extra durability, I decided to brush some casting epoxy on the ears. They were then attached to a clear head band that I am able to wear under my wig. More info on working with paper clay and paper mache can be found in JiaJem's tutorial [link]

Shana: Me

This has been my ultimate dream costume for so long. Legend of Dragoon is a very special game to me. It was one of the first games I ever played, and I adore it from opening to close. The dragoon armor was simply breathtaking, and Shana's in particular is very elegant and fascinating. My friend Envel asked me after Otakon 2008 if I wanted to get in on some Dragoon action with her and I just couldn't pass up the opportunity ^.^

The entire costume was made in just over 2 weeks, so I was very rushed in making everything. The armor is made of craft foam and hot glue for the detailing, with a few bits of cardboard and vinyl tubing here and there. I did make the wings from painted vinyl, craft foam, PVC, and pink foam (my first real wings ever), but they were too heavy for my wing harness and I didn't have time to remake the harness for the con. But I didn't mind not having them for my costume debut, since they were really heavy ^.^ Hopefully I can get that part figured out soon.

I'm so glad this costume worked out well. I simply love the game and I'm so thrilled that I could finally cosplay as Shana!!

This photo was before I remade her coat. This was the first time I wore her. Man do I love this costume. I recently found that the costume got damaged while I was moving. Gonna have to remake it.

But for now, check out my sass!
