Skribble Contest: Let's Get Creative! TweetSkribble Contest: Let's Get Creative!2 years ago in Contests More Like This
A mere eleven years ago, deviantART met its humble beginnings. Since that time, we've grown to be the world's largest online art community, but even a site as massive and established as deviantART had to start somewhere. We never forget those few small sparks that launched deviantART to be where it is today, and that's what we're celebrating during our birthday season.
For this year's community event, we're embracing the idea of starting small and creating something amazing from just a few quick sketches. We've started this work for you and challenge you to finish it with the pizzazz that only the best art community in the world co

deviantPOINTS: An updateOver the past few months we’ve been keeping a watchful eye on the way that members in our community have been offering points as payment for certain types of services within deviantART. We’ve seen all sorts of creative uses, from offering to critique your work for a few points, journal features for a few more points and my personal fav -- avatars, journal skins and any other sort of art commission for points. It’s been great to see deviants use their experience and skills to fund their super group upgrades, prints purchases and even treating their friends and families to their very first item of deviantWEAR.deviantPOINTS: An update2 years ago in Personal More Like This
As time rolled on, we noticed a new trend creeping in. People were not just offering a small number of points for a task that they’d normally do as part of their daily deviating -- people were offering thousands of page views for hundreds of points, and there seemed to be no limit to the amount that could be purchased, or offered. It didn

August 7th, 2011 marks deviantART's 11th birthdAy, but in true devious style, we're taking a whole week to celebrate! Our original plans for Deviants Appreciation Day were so huge that there was no possible way to express our love for the community in a mere 24 hours. Instead, we've created Deviants Appreciation Week, and what better time to host a week's worth of community-oriented events than in the days leading up to our birthdAy?
Each day this week, we have something special organized for you to participate in! Check out the schedule of events below to come party with us!
In Skribble, our latest community contest, we challenge
Vigilante Oriented GroupsWhen the deviantART Groups system launched in beta nearly two years ago we fully expected it to become home to a large variety of Groups centered around every subject possible and that is exactly what has happened and we are really encouraged to see so many embracing the Groups concept and coming together around these common topics to share their thoughts and works.Vigilante Oriented Groups2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Today we’d like to discuss a certain type of Group which often comes to our attention, and not always in a good way; the “vigilante” style Group.
For those who may not be familiar with these types of Groups, what we call a “vigilante” Group are those which are created and centered around gathering deviants together to encourage the reporting of rule breakers and members who may be in violation of one or more official policies.
While gathering together in order to promote following the rules is not a bad thing there are good and bad ways for these types of Groups to operate; We always appre

The Bolt Award is an accolade that recognizes an individual's significant contributions to deviantART. The Award celebrates such contributions and brings to light the exemplary work performed by its recipient.
In 2007, the first recipient was none other than the award's namesake, Chris Bolt ($chris), and in 2008 we saw Heidi Chambers ($Heidi) presented with the well deserved honor.
In 2009, the Bolt Award went to the pixel perfect Stanley Sy ($starvingartist) who then passed this on to Simon Murray ($pachunka) during our 10th Birthday Celebrations in 2010.
This year, we are deeply honoured to announce that

Presenting: Community VolunteersA BRIEF OVERVIEWPresenting: Community Volunteers2 years ago in Community Relations More Like This
Over the years, we've been proud to offer the opportunity to volunteer with deviantART. We believe that our volunteers play a crucial role in helping our community develop and grow in positive ways.
The Gallery Moderator (previously known as Gallery Director) and Message Network Admin (MN@) teams have become a much loved and appreciated role, with many volunteers proudly detailing their experience in applications to enter into successful careers with companies who all recognise the value of volunteering in such a vibrant and eclectic community. Did you know that some of our now full time Staff were once volunteers? $fourteenthstar, $Moonbeam13, $pachunka, $aunjuli, $y2jenn, $damphyr, `Tachy-on, $dxd and $Ikue all volunteered in various roles -- and we are all very proud of that fact!
Over the past few months, we've been taking a close look at the volunteer experience -- what's worked, what hasn't worked a

As part of the 11th birthday celebrations, we deviously had created a beautiful celebratory photograph to share with you all. It is stunning, a real epitome of the deviantART world. Unfortunately someone (I'd look in the direction of last month's deviousness award winner) left a window open and an army of naughty mudkips came and stole the photo! We were all devastated (well with the exception of `ScENeYmE who found it hilarious!)
Fortunately, the great $Moonbeam13 called upon her witching powers (the spell involved monkeys, lightning and an extra sprinkle of devious magic) and managed to find the photograph. Sadly, she discovered the naughty mudkips had ripped the photograph apart, leaving it in complete disarray! To stop the mudkips stealing it again, she gave individual pieces to deviants to conceal until we knew it was safe to unveil the complete photo to everyone. However, as busy as $Moonbeam13 is, she has forgotten who holds the hidden pieces (though
Ever wanted to +fav a journal? Well now you can! This is a feature that's been in the works for a little while now, and over the coming weeks will reshape the way that you see and submit content here on deviantaARTEver wanted to +fav a journal? Well now you can!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
So what's this new feature?
At the moment, deviantART has many different types of content (e.g. journals, news and deviations) which are all different to use, located in different places, and produce completely different types of content.
The aim of this new feature is to unify all these systems, making them simpler to use and more consistent in appearance and functionality
How are we going to achieve this?
The most obvious and most widely used content you see on deviantART is Deviations. So the best way of merging all the current content into one, is to make Journals, News and Blogs into Deviations
Why is this better?
Apart from making content on deviantART simpler for new users, Journals and News will gain functions of deviations such as, favourites,
Deviants Conquer Foot Locker Art PrizeIn June, Foot Locker Australia held a sneaker coloring competition – featuring shoes from Nike, adidas, Puma and Converse. Entrants were tasked with coloring a template that featured the silhouette of one of eight different popular sneakers. Competitors could do whatever they wanted to wow the judges and boy, were the results fantastic. Not only did the winner get to take home a one-of-a-kind pair of kick featuring their winning artwork, they also won a boatload of cash - $50,001 to be exact – making it the largest amount of money to ever be awarded in an art competition in Australia.Deviants Conquer Foot Locker Art Prize2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Of 24 finalists, one piece of artwork triumphed over the rest. Kalin Thompson, a 24-year old hailing from Brisbane, Australia took home the top prize and guess what? He’s a deviant! That’s right, !Kfames is Foot Locker Australia’s sneaker-coloring king! Proving, once again, that deviantART is home to very best!

:faq29:
So what does it take to become a Senior? That's a question many have asked and have never really been able to get a straight answer on. Some have gained Seniority as a thank you for their time spent as a Volunteer, or to recognise their contribution to a particular project or collaborative action. Some have gained Seniority because of their community spirit, providing help and assistance to many other deviants and taking time out to promote the work of others in the community.
Some people have received Seniority because of their artistic endevours, having a positive influence on their peers by sharing resources, providing constructive criticism and by being a voice that stands out above the many others who deviate to be recognised in the crowd.
Today, we present to you the following deviants who have all been awarded Seniority as part of our 11th birthday celebrations. They have all been nominated
When Being Human Just Isn't Enough:icontechgnotic:When Being Human Just Isn't Enough2 years ago in Personal More Like This
The allure of Anthro Art is obvious to anyone who ever “owned” and loved a pet. (Only those who have never loved and shared lives with a pet speak of pet “ownership”!) Once a bond has been formed between a human and an animal the rigid distinctions between what is human and what is animal begin to fracture.
The definition of “being” becomes suddenly far more expansive. And soon the bonded human begins feeling spiritual affinities with the “animal” that are undeniably powerful and as “real” as any felt with other humans. The desire to leave all the lies and hypocrisies of human society behind and join in with a simpler and somehow more “honest” society of different beings in nature can become palpable and intense. “The grass is always greener…” and, oh!, to scamper across it on four liberating paws!
