Massive Mario Collab - CLOSED! SubjectMassive Mario Collab - CLOSED!5 months ago in Personal More Like This
[Update] The collab is officially closed! Which means whatever characters weren't drawn won't be in the final picture *single tear*. If anyone wants to do any of the Mushroom Kings, though: we're still missing a few and it doesn't seem right to not have a complete collection. So let me know if you want to draw any of them!
Just FYI: It'll probably take me a few weeks to put this big picture together, so be patient!
For this collab, we will be drawing all the Mario characters we can!
:iconattention-plz: PLEASE READ ALL THE RULES BEFORE SIGNING UP! I don't want you to draw a character and not be allowed in because you missed a rule. ;_;
You don't have to be part of the group to join in the collaboration, but it's HIGHLY recommended at least for the duration of the collab because if I have any updates or new rules, I'm going to send the message here.
Any Mario character can only be in the collab once. In other words, if someon

Looks like we have our complete set!
So, I'll give everyone until Friday to make additional Links and Marios if they want. BUT. If the count is uneven by Friday, then we'll only be able to use some of them. Good luck!
-- Each member of our group can do only TWO Marios and TWO Links for our collab. You can choose to do both, or just one or the other. It's up to you.
-- Marios must be facing right, and Links must be facing left. This way when I put it together it'll look like they're about to clash -- like an army! For a visualization of this set-up, look here:
-- You may do any canon version of Mario and Link. This means anything from red overalls Mario, blue overalls Mario, Paper Mario, frog-suit Mario, Wind waker Link, Twilight Princess Link, bunny Link, Goron Link etc. Have fun and be creative!
-- But don't make up a version of Mario or Link that doesn't exist. That means no gender bending, no made-up suits for Mario.

What Spyro's Kingdom WasWe finally have visual of what the first game concept of what Spyro's Kingdom looked like. What Spyro's Kingdom Was3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Apparently, this game was originally going to be a MMORPG, in the Legend of Spyro-themed universe. The Portal of Power is mentioned, and we were going to have to use toys to play as our dragon characters in the game world. And just like Spyro's Universe, we customize our lairs. This game idea was proposed to Activision, but it was rejected.

I've noticed a lot of trees in my favorites lately. It's interesting.
- Deadline for Bubbline Book is still February 1st.
- Julia and I have added original paintings to our Storenvy!
- I recently found a few old messages about commissions. If you're still interested, feel free to drop me a line.
- I'll try to wrap up old art trades in-between hw and work, too.
Over and out! Whoo!
The Effectiveness of SimplicityI like to draw and look at rather complex works of illustration. Perpectiveful pinnacles of technical achievement, etc. However, I watch a good number of artists who use simplicity to great effect. Whether it be representing more complex objects and figures as simpler forms, or just a philosophy of "less is more," I can easily be just as impressed (if not more so) with the understanding and implementation of simplicity as I get with more complex works. The Effectiveness of Simplicity1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Here's a short feature of some examples of works I've seen recently that got me good. Enjoy!
This work by radsechrist looks complex (such as the third image which I'll be talking about a bit here,) and to an extent it is -- however upon closer inspection, the actual details and construction is quite simplified, even crude. And it's fantastic. The artist shows such a vast understanding of how and where to place detail that matters,

The Artist's Toolbox - Working with ReferencesThe Artist's Toolbox - Working with ReferencesThe Artist's Toolbox - Working with References1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
I can draw anything... as long as I get to look at it.
There is a great myth that drawing is a memory exercise. That if you can draw entirely from memory it makes you a better artist who deserves more kudos.
Of course the study of drawing will lead to a good memory of the things you've already studied how to draw, humans, animals, whatever it is that you love to draw. But the downfall of this is that you can restrict yourself to only drawing what it is you have studied how to draw, ie what you've memorised.
Using reference is not a weakness! It is a strength and almost all top level artists use a lot of reference. Using reference means you're not trapped one person's life experiences and can draw upon a wealth of extra knowledge. How can that be a weakness?
A lot of people seem to assume that the reference should come first. They go out and they scour the dA stock etc to find th
TalentPlease artists, take a time and read it.Talent1 year ago in Personal More Like This
A lot of people is been asking me recently about what I do to create, how I developed my work, if I have any formal study in arts, or if it's only "talent". Oh, talent, that damn word. I don't disregard talent at all, but what I really think is that's a complete waste of time for us as artists to underestimate the value of HARD WORK. Talent is a given, Hard work is coachable, and that's all. Simple math. Here's an excerpt of text that says it all:
"Talent is, in common parlance, 'what comes easily'. So, sooner or later, inevitably, you reach a point where the work doesn't come easily, and, -Aha!, it's just what you feared.
Wrong. By definition, whatever you have is exactly what you need to produce your best work. There's probably no clearer waste of psychic energy than worrying about how much talent you have- And probably no worry more common.
Talent, if it is anything, is a gift, and nothing of the artist's own making.

“Some use Ink, I confide in Silver”

Quote by Lauren E. Simonutti
“ The misfirings of my beloved/despised mind that conspire to convince me to destroy all have rendered me housebound and led to a solitary life. A creature of past, proof, memory and imaginary friends, I am aware enough to know the things I see and hear are not real, but that does not mean I do not still see and hear them.”
For a very long time Lauren Simonutti's haunting photographs were a spectral presence amongst

Notes on Character Design
I received the question pictured below at my tumblr blog. In case it's useful to anyone here, I decided to go ahead and use this otherwise dormant journal to share the article I put together in response.
Character design and drawing are tome-sized topics and even if I had all the answers (I don't - I have a lot to learn), I'm not sure I could communicate them effectively. Here are some thoughts an ideas that might help, though.
First, some general things...
Let some of that anxiety go. This isn't a hard science. There's no wrong way, no rigid process you must adhere to, no shoulds or shouldn'ts except those you designate for yourself. This is one of the fun parts of being an artist, really - have a heady good time with it.
Winter Is Coming...... or has already come, I suppose. It kind of depends on where you are. I haven't really been active in the past year or so, since I kind of stopped being into photography, though I started writing, mostly short stories. I don't know if I'll keep uploading them here, since most of them are in Bulgarian and I'm not sure how many people will be able to read them. If you're interested, however, you can visit this: http://wrtitingstuff.blogspot.com which is my blog where I supposedly upload stuff more often. Though I'm sort of in the middle of the process of applying for universities, so my inspiration's not really with me at the moment. Anyway, to everyone who's still in school (like me) - have an easy last week and to all of you - happy holidays ^^Winter Is Coming...4 years ago in Personal More Like This
Battle of the WrenchesUpdate: Much to my surprise, it seems that even ED (Encyclopedia Dramatica) has caught on to this. Huh. If you're willing to brave the pop-ups and the NSFW material there, type "Mighty Number 9" into the search bar, and see for yourself. I'll see if I can post a screencap a bit later.Battle of the Wrenches1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Hey, folks, me again.
A few people have contacted me about something...very interesting. It concerns a certain drawing (done by Community Manager Dina) that appeared on the Mighty No. 9 blog just the other day, and her similarities to another red-headed wrench wielder who's rather prevalent in my gallery. Take a look.
For reference, here are my drawings of the character Geargirl, submitted in 2006, 2009 and 2012 (Compare the poses of Dina's art to the second picture, down to the poses are pretty identical!):

First of all, I want to extend my congratulations to :icondnmstarsi:, who was the first to correctly guess that T-Bone was going to be the legacy character reveal for Cartoon Network: Crossover Chaos! But to everybody else who too part, a big thanks for your enthusiasm, too! Keeps me going, like a nice hot cup of coffee. (Not the kind Filburt drinks in the dungeon, though.)
I had picked T-Bone for two reasons. One was that he came from a fan-favorite show that kicked all kinds of ass. To this day, I really wondered why Cartoon Network didn't seize the opportunity to make a shooter along the lines of Raiden for it- Swat Kats was just begging for something like that. The second reason being that with his big frame, love of comics and the fact that he could pick up heavy missiles by himself without breaking a sweat, I was simply inspired to add him as a brawler type of character - something like a 'big guy' that hits hard, but a little mor

I just wanted to keep you guys posted on what's been happening over the last few weeks on my account.
As you may have noticed, I've posted up some samples of my logowork and crafts. There were done for other projects, and for the longest while, I've basically kept them to myself, but I felt that it possessed enough artistic merit to be put here. Here are some of the samples I've posted:
Now, admittedly, logos aren't my strongest point, but if you like what you see, I can fix something up for you at a price. More on that later, though.
And now, on the projects near and dear to your hearts...
- As you may have noticed with characters such as Ember and Raphael, I'm trying to release the alternate costumes in batches, so that things get done at a quicker pace and you'd have more to look forward to with ea
