Steel groans, shrieking metallically
as maiden voyage dreams
bend and break
beneath the heavy burden
of the practicality of death.
The serenity of the glassy sea
into a thousand glittering broken lives,
smashed by the heavy-handed fists
of tragedy and fate,
while the white mountain of doom
stands tall, proud, unapologetic
in the distance.
Above, the stars burst,
their light fragmented beyond repair,
rent apart by the screams of the lost
and the dream denied.
Yet threaded through the chaos,
music like one last hope
(which sounds like morning larks
or a familiar voice in a panicked crowd)
is sewn into the straining seams of reality,
by expert hands which do not shake
which do not tremble under the pressure
of disaster and despair
and hope is given to the hopeless,
life is given to the lost,
if only for a moment more.
Steel groans, metal shrieks
the ship of dreams
is tipped headfirst into the nightmare,
never to return.
