Bear with me for a minute - I need to vent.
...I have issues.
SERIOUSLY! WHAT THE HECK WAS I THINKING?! What in heaven's name possessed me to do a contest entry THIS large?! *bangs head against the wall*
Here's why I'm freaking out:
This is an entry for
's contest, based off of her Amy In Wonderland
comic series (currently running). Turns out her sister designed every single outfit
that premiered in her comic. The rules state that the character/s drawn in each entry have to be as close as possible
to how they look in the actual comic.
This itself was a hassle enough - how do I accomplish that on time? I am a detail freak, and that fact alone meant I would have to spend an exorbitant amount of time just for one
And poses! What was I going to do about that? I originally had the idea that I would sketch March Hare (Tails) throwing the tea cup and yelling that classic movie line 'You're late for TEA!' Then it occurred to me: "The line and pose make no sense to the observer unless he's actively throwing the cup at
someone. So, who do I choose to throw it at?" The first person that came to mind was Spirit (Knuckles), and I liked the idea.
However, I was torn. I also wanted to draw Mad Hatter (Sonic) with Red Madness (Sonic again) as his shadow, rubbing his hands together as though plotting something diabolical. While somewhat darker than my humorous scene with Tails and Knuckles, this concept appealed to me - but there was a problem. What would Hatter be doing while Madness was being evil? And at the same time, I didn't want to give up the porcelain flying at Spirit's face. (Who wouldn't want to see that
Here's where I swear I lost my mind - I thought "What the hey, I'll just draw all of the characters! Surely that can't be too difficult."...Stupid, over-ambitious mind...
The pencil sketching... the poses... the color tiles... the shading... the text... the background... All together, it took hours upon hours of work
Okay, I'm done with my ranting at my own stupidity. Please give feedback if you like it
EDIT:: There is ONE character profile that I did not sketch, and it is of Spirit before the Red Queen. I only had room on the page for one version of him, and I chose the one with spikes and armor ^^. It was a bigger pain to do, but where's the fun in drawing the other (more plain and casual) outfit?
EDIT#2:: ...I can't believe it. I won. I actually won. I was one of the first-placers ...I don't think it's quite sunk in yet. Anyways, thank you for looking at my art, and I would like to say that everyone who participated was absolutely amazing. I know - I saw them, and you should all be proud of the awesome effort you put into your work ^^.
Here's a short summary of what each character is doing, and copyrights.
Rei is chillin' with his pipe and pondering life, which he does for pretty much the entire comic. The Tweedlies... well, I'm not entirely sure. White Rabbit is pointing out the time to Alice, worrying that he was late for the photo op, and Alice is listening with interest. Red Queen is jealous that Alice gets more face-time with the camera. Loss and Claude are waiting to serve the Red Queen, although I don't think they enjoy it. Spirit deftly avoids a flying chunk of porcelain that March Hare launched at him. Mad Hatter is taunting Cheshire Cat with the Bee-Mouse, 'cause he know's she'll never get her claws on him when he's around. Red Madness is... well, mad. What can I say? He's plotting revenge on the queen or something.
