Free adviceSomeone recently asked me for some advice about going to art college and becoming an illustrator. Here's what I said. Maybe someone here will find this interesting too...Free advice3 years ago in Personal More Like This
1) It's a tough life as an artist. You need more than just good drawing abilities to get by. I know a lot of people who are WAY better than me but can't make it as artists. You need to be personable and likable. Work on your people skills and be sincere. People can tell when it's fake.
2) Learn a broad range of skills. Don't just focus on illustration, but also learn the fundamentals of design, sculpture, painting, storyboarding, etc... those skill will help you more than you can possibly imagine.
3) Be yourself. Find your own style and really refine it.
4) Don't waste your education. Don't go out and party and drink when you should be studying and doing homework. They give you that homework for a reason!
5) Always try to be the best. Challenge yourself to make your assignments the best in your class. Always try to be
Very helpful videoThose who had been on art school or art related classes must had known about the importance of color, and this video right here is just about the best that I had ever seen that's understanding color when doing illustrations or art of any kind.Very helpful video9 months ago in Personal More Like This

ArchiveThis journal is merely to serve as an archive to the many shit I review/analysis/rant about. Nothing more. So any one who likes reading my shit, but can't bother to scroll through the journal links, they're all here. Some of these links go to the same page because I sometimes do multiple reviews under one entry.Archive3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I will put this specific journal link at the bottom of future journals. Also included are my Toonzone reviews, Tumblr ramblings, and any other outside stuff I've done beyond DA. Please tell me if any of the links aren't working for whatever reason.

Paranoia and a sense of impending doom.
The "party game" I just picked up should do the trick.
Each player gets a Nerf gun, the name of a target and the location in the house where they have to shoot them at some point over the course of the evening.
Nothing says "Christmas" like an assassination contract.
.....yes. I have been playing Hitman too long.
Copic Markers and Pony colorsI get a LOT of questions regarding what colors I use where when it comes to the ponies, and I keep saying I'm gonna make a little guide. Well, let's give it a shot.Copic Markers and Pony colors2 years ago in Personal More Like This
For the majority of my covers, I use Copic markers to color. Copics are light-fast, alcohol markers... not unlike a classic school marker, but higher quality. I prefer Copic over other brands primarily for a few reasons: Variable tips (markers, fine, brush, etc), better blending, and they can be refilled! This is the BIG selling point to me... this means you can buy the marker once, and continue to refill. It also means you can custom blend colors should you desire. Copics also guarantee that if you buy Y00 yellow, and then buy another down the line, the colors will match. I've bought the same marker color from other brands and had them not match. I will use other brands here and there for very specific colors or effects, but Copic is 99% of my marker work.
So... when I do a cover or whatever, I do basic ink lines first wit
Writing, Determination, and I'm Okay (I Promise)Right, okay, I suppose my unofficial but very much happening dA hiatus is, for now, at an end. My mind is buzzing with ideas for new poems and I can't keep them in anymore; I want to write them and share them with you beautiful people. I'm trying to increase how much I write so that I might look more attractive to potential universities (I'm going for courses on creative writing and journalism). In order to keep my writing muscles in use, I've started a project; every day for a year I'm going to write a letter to myself for me to open ten years in the future. Lame, I know, but I think it could have a really interesting result.Writing, Determination, and I'm Okay (I Promise)9 months ago in Personal More Like This
This year I am determined to make college work for me. Last week, for the first time in forever, I went to every single one of my lessons, and I didn't cry or have a panic attack once. This probably sounds really trivial or stupid to the majority of you reading this, but to me it's a massive deal and a huge step in the right direction. My 100% streak would

Kay (aka damphyr) is DeviantArt’s go-to expert on everything “Pokémon.” She also occupies the adventurous position of being one of DeviantArt's main enforcers of standards and practices. We thank her for being a guardian of artistic erotica and especially, for being able to answer every question we get asked about Pokémon and just about anything else for that matter. Supreme Keeper of all pop culture knowledge, Kay must be protected in case of global disaster.

Mega Man Pokémon style.
You start out with the course Dr. light(Dr. Oak) doing the usual intro routine, really knowing of course the Pokémon being probably guts man! And after doing the usual speech, he asks you are you a rock or roll instead of asking if your boy or girl(a little trivia here rock is actually the true name of mega Man) then of course he introduces your rival would be of course blues a.k.a. proto-man(just placed black sunglasses onto Gary Oak) then of course you go through the usual routine, when it comes down to selecting robot master balls, and the starting choices are mega Man, proto-man,Bass!
And then you start your usual journey hunting out new and fascinating robot Masters! And of course we reneged and some of the gym leaders after some of the network characters, like for example after the first gym meetings to the rock is Dex instead and

DRAGON CASTLE by randis
According to the Chinese zodiac, 2012 has ushered in the year of the dragon upon the world stage.
In addition to occupying an ages old position in our cultural consciousness, legend and folklore surrounding
the dragon mythology has long been firing the kiln of our dreams with fright and menace. When we are speaking of
Dragons, we are speaking from ancient texts gathered form the beginnings of kept records of any kind and fro

Lockheed's Falling Star: The F-22 RaptorFunny, isn't it, how the OBOGS (On-Board Oxygen Generator System) of the F-22 doesn't seem to work, despite over 20 years of R&D?Lockheed's Falling Star: The F-22 Raptor4 years ago in Personal More Like This
That doesn't seem to be an issue in the OBOGS systems used in other fighters, like the Typhoon, Rafale, Gripen, Mig-35, Su-35, J-10, and dozens of others --- to say nothing of PAST aircraft, like the Su-47 Firkin and F-20 Tigershark.
Even funnier is that not long after this was announced...;

And all this, after rust problems..;

A years worth of experienceI Haven't updated this thing in more than a year ._.A years worth of experience4 years ago in Personal More Like This
An update on what I've been up to. Last year for a blur of a span of 4-5 months I was working on an independent 2d animated film.
The 2 minute animation is called Seedling. It's currently doing film festival runs and it was a pretty cool experience.
If you want to check it out, it is up on Vimeo: http://vimeo.com/22912215
After finishing the film, I went into concept art and visual development so that's what I'm doing full time these days. Growing older does seem like you have less and less time to procrastinate haha. I'm still updating on a monthly basis on my blog about random stuff and sketches and art and stuff like that, and once in a while I'll upload some stuff here as well, I haven't been that great in this aspect though. Art wise, there's so much I want to do, there's so much amazing art in illustration, visdev, fineart, and animation, makes you want to do it all. For most of last year my concentration had been on environmen
