It always figures that when I'm really missing making bentos, there's nothing in the fridge.

I'd been thinking about trying rice paper scales for a while and I was finally crazy enough able to get a chance to do it. Very happy with how they turned out, even though I wish I'd done strips with rounded cuts instead of jagged but oh well :P

Top: Koi (rice, rice paper+food color, tapioca/nori eyes) swimming in water (somen)

Bottom: dried apple slices, sweet peas, roasted chicken, cookies.

I've been trying for the last few days to work on bento and since we're going to be remodeling our house all weekend I knew it was now or never :P

I'd been kicking around this idea for a whiiiiiile, it was originally supposed to go in my Peacock Bento Box but then I realized I would need a long rectangle space ;_;

LEFT: peacock (body is blue eggsheet, pear, radish, nori details; tail is spinach leaves, pear/eggsheet details), rice.

RIGHT: teriyaki chicken, kiwi, plum, cherry "blossoms".

I used :iconfalln-stock:s pretty peacock stock photo as a reference.

Dunnnnun...dunnnnun...dundun dundun dundun dundun...

Had that stuck in my head the entire time I was carving the shark :D

Left: steamed broccoli, sauteed zucchini, longanisa (filipino sausage).

Right: shark (zucchini with almond teeth, food color/nori details), rice noodles.

Squirted some bright red sriracha sauce on the noodles right before I ate it and it had a very nice (icky-neato?) blood look to it :P

Finally got a chance to make an animal bento! A little bummed that my box is so small--couldn't cram half the food I wanted into it :(

LEFT: Scarlet macaw made from bell peppers, eggplant, and blue egg sheet on stir fry pork branch, with rice of course :D

RIGHT: hibiscus cup (carved from potato and painted with food color) of chili bean dipping sauce, beef spring roll, and rainbow of fruit (strawberry, grapefruit, pineapple, melon, blueberry, grape) LOL :D

Wanted to get one more practice with the nori hand-cut technique before my daughter comes home from visiting her aunt :D I always loved cherry blossom art so thought I'd give that a go!

1st Level: onigiri stuffed with crab with food color blossoms (I had little crab blossoms at first but they wouldn't stick worth anything), baked sweet potato fries.

2nd Level: cherry "blossoms" *ba dum KSH!* with blueberry centers, sweet corn, salad with cucumber flowers.

I don't know why I chose the most angsty version of Mulan to do a bento of, I guess I just really liked her face all guilty and strong at the same time *ponder*

Left: Mulan (rice, nori, chicken, rice paper, food color), sauteed zucchini.

Right: longanisa (filipino sausage), seasoned chickpeas, cucumber flower, mango slices, shrimp/broccoli stir fry.

Sort of irked because I'd bought those chickpeas at Trader Joe's in WI and they looked so pretty on the package and then ended up looking like soggy Cocoa Puffs (thus the decorative/hiding cucumber flower) :(

We had a big bag of slivered almonds left over from a work event and my boss sent them home with me. The color reminded me of hedgehog quills so I thought I'd make one :D

Top: Hedgehog (puto, slivered almonds, nori), sushi (crab/avocado).

Bottom: Grapefruit slices, snap peas, italian mixed salad.

The hedgehog base was made from a handmade sweetcake mold. Will (hopefully) be posting a tutorial on it soon, since it's very easy and fun!

Also included some small pictures of how the box fits together, since I do stack it in an odd manner for pictures.

EDIT: Tutorial is posted so check it out!
