Dinosaur Land my favorite of all the Mario realms of olde!
Something about the size of this place, the bright colors, the cartoony music and the strange new elements impressed me like no other game quite has since.
One thing that always fascinated me what was at the top of that waterfall coming down the mountain?
It took me years and years to find every goal in this game, and till the very end I hoped a secret path would lead to the top. Of course, one never did but that was the beauty of this game. It could keep you guessing. And that meant a real, literal sense of exploration, not unlike that experienced in Super Mario 64 six years later.
Well, that turned into more of a reminiscer than I intended, but so be it SMW was a good game! This kinda started out as a sketch of Yoshi, and the background just sprang up behind im as I got into the theme. I actually had to do a lot of experimentation to get the background colored and shaded in a way that appealed to me. Lemme know how you think it turned out!
I tried to do a transparent background...hope it works...
Remember when I had that journal asking who everybody's favorite Mario characters were? It ended up being Luigi, Yoshi, and Bowser....I then said I'd draw a picture. Well, I forgot about it until this morning, so here it is!
Guess who just got a new tablet and decided to try out all the spangly brushes, tricks and effects in Painter?!
I've been wanting to do a bit of non-work art lately just for my own purposes, even if it is just a bit of fanart. Yoshi's Island is my favourite SNES game ever and possibly one of my favourite games of all time, so it was due for a bit of artwork. Plus, a lot of the more recent original work I'd been doing for the office assignments had been so gloomy and blood-filled, I felt a nice change of mood to something more cheery would remedy things somewhat.
Yep, it's been a while since I added anything to the DeviantART gallery! I have to say some of the previous work I have up is downright appalling, so I'm preparing to go through and purge the worst of it over due time. Fingers crossed it'll be updated and replaced with newer, much better stuff in the future!
My fanart in dedication to one of Nintendo's biggest surprises at this year's E3. I also wanted to emulate the style of the official 2D artworks of Super Mario (I used SMB3 and SMW as reference). This game is sure to be a killer app, just like the first one, and it has freaking Yoshi! This is gonna be awesome!
