Similar Deviations

ok, before you do anything, you must know Papercraft is easier as it looks and it's, like all the other art, a learning by doing thing.
As more as you build, as more experience you will get.
But i must also say, sometimes you will stuck, sometimes you will despair and sometimes (hope not) you will fail.

That's why i wanna give you a good start into this great artisan craft art.
By the way, this is only my way to do this.
Try some other technics and you will find your own best way :)

NOT REALLY RULES:
:bulletgreen: have fun during the build
:bulletgreen: if you are not in the mood ore you are stressed, stop it
:bulletgreen: it is just paper, so if you made a mistake, even it hurts, throw the pieces away and build it again
:bulletgreen: make brakes
:bulletgreen: take your time and have patience, quality instead of quantity
:bulletgreen: think before you do something
:bulletgreen: don't be afraid of tiny ore complicated pieces
:bulletgreen: quite every model is different
:bulletgreen: paper is more stable as you may think
:bulletgreen: did i say that the build should make fun :D

special rule for smoker :smoking:
:bulletgreen: put ashtray and cigarettes away from that place where you build ;P

PAPER:
don't worry, no special paper needet, but you should use paper with 80gsm (gramms square meter) and upwards

TOOLS:
i got a few tools, that i use the most time.
That don't mean that you MUST have this tools too.
I repeat, it's only my way.

PROGRAMS:
sometimes you will need a special programm to open the model or rather print the model.
That programm is called "Pepakura Viewer" which you can download here

It's also very helpful when you stuck ore just to view, which part is where.

P.S.
this programm is only to view the models, not to create some.
Not even the Designer can "create" models
it just convert existing 3d meshes into printable sheets.
but that's an other storie :)

but enough of talking, let's start with image one :aww:

the model that i used for this tutorial is "Blaziken" which you can download here

So here it is, my first trully non .pdo release. As i promised, i shall share the template! Let me know if you encounter any problem, just PrntScr the problematic area and sketch over it for flaws, and show me. I'll take the repair job ASAP.

This project is a colaboration between me, Reza Ilyasa and Tomas Overbai.
Samurai Bot as seen in Ichido comic book series.

Edit: a bit trouble, deviantArt doesn't allow me to post .rar file under the artisan craft-papercraft category, so i'll submit it as 3D model instead.

If you are'nt sure how it's going to look like when it's done, see here: loone-wolf.deviantart.com/art/…
That will give you the preview of what you are going to build. Good luck and have fun! :)

Recently i modeled a human head for a commision (that i'll show you in two months) and yesterday i woke up with this idea, "¿why not to model a Tony Stark mask?, ¿Wouldn't it be a great gift for RDJ and IRONMAN fans?", well voala, here it is, enjoy it!.

You can find all the files at [link] including blender, PaintDot Net, LOOXIS and PDF versions.

Right now i don't have time to build it, so don't expect any photo of it until November.

EDIT 10.10.12:
Added PDFs and my signature ink-efficient texture edits, as well as increased the scale from 42'' to 44.5'' long. As I've made more keyblade templates, I'm getting a better idea of how big they're really supposed to be. :)

Thank you all who have downloaded this, and my other templates as well. :D You've really encouraged me at a time when I especially needed encouragement.

EDIT: ADDED A PDO FOR THE KEYCHAIN!!!! I gotta say, I did not expect this to be so popular, otherwise I would have originally submitted both together. As of this moment, 120 downloads since yesterday afternoon??!!!!! WT FLYING FRUITCAKE!!?!??!!! :noes: :squee::squee::squee:

Btw, here is a pic of the one I built: [link] :la:
******************************

HERE YOU HAVE IT!! :faint:

I spent hours and hours and hours trying to figure out how to manifold-iffy this 3D model....(my noobishness rears its ugly head!)....only to give up and then spend hours and hours and more hours MANUALLY ALIGNING THE INDIVIDUAL POLYGON FACES ON THE PRINT TEMPLATE! If you zoom in really, really close in Pepakura Viewer, you'll see what I mean.

The 3D preview is glitchy, but the template itself should work fine as long as you *mostly* ignore the Edge ID numbers and the mountain/valley nature of the dotted fold lines; for some reason, half of all the faces were inside out. That's another thing I spent hours trying to learn how to fix....

Anyways, I've wanted this keyblade long time. Me thinks it is the best looking one since Oblivion and Oathkeeper. I dun like the cluttered cartoonish ones, which account for most. I like the elegant, sober ones. Is that how you say...? :P

The length is based on the wooden swords I train with ([link] ) which are 40 inches / our steel practice swords which are 37-40 inches tip to pommel / bamboo shinai which are 45. I keep seeing keyblades that look too small to be screen-accurate, and I think the reason is that people are making them out of 36-inch wooden dowels. 36 is WAY too short for an anime sword....

....Don't. even. say it.... :evileye:

EDIT: Increased the scale a smidge (Oblivion now 45.4 inches and Oathkeeper now 37.7 inches tip to pommel----which is what they would be irl if Riku was 5ft6'......I think.), made progress on Oblivion, and most importantly added two PDFs of the finished Oathkeeper template. :D

PS: I only get to use a computer about twice a week now, so if you're waiting for a request from me, sorry they're all taking so long. :(

Oathkeeper is completely done...... I've sorted Oblivion's parts, but haven't tried to put them together at all yet. I've already made an Oblivion template before, as part of my Deep Dive Riku Pack. So, download that too if you want it before I update this.

You can thank Blood Stain Child for getting me hyper enough to finish this much by today instead of NEXT Friday. In fact, I think I gained a level in Papercrafting. Pepakura Designer has this infuriating glitch that I've finally figured out how to work around, which means I should get more templates done quicker. Such as my armors. :shakefist:

ABOUT THIS MODEL: I found a Roxas model in KH2 that had both Oblivion and Oathkeeper attached to it. Theoretically, that should mean that these keyblades are proportionate to each other as they appeared in the game------Oathkeeper really IS that much smaller. The reason for this is because of the 400-year-old sword style that Roxas uses, in which a short katana is wielded in the left hand while a normal long katana is wielded in the right. (Regardless of weather or not the swordsman is lefthanded.)

I've been nagging my sensei for years to teach me more of that style. I freaking love it! :squee:
